Redragon K649 Pro 82 Key 75% Wireless Mechanical Keyboard (Linear) $104.99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Umart

120

First post. Had ~100 budget for a keyboard.
Waited until I had it before posting. Quite enjoyable as far as keyboards go. Safely say it's saved me from going down this weird rabbit hole.

Comes in translucent black and white variants
For 105 I think it's really good. Other alternatives at this price are skyloong gk75 if you prefer a knob to rgb. Tecware phantom+ elite is the same price as this in America but currently after shipping and tax it's more like 170aud.

Downsides:
-The gasket mount isn't perfectly implemented, which doesn't matter unless you are an enthusiast who regularly takes keyboards apart
-Some of the keycap decals are definitely unnecessary.

Upsides:
Pre-lubed linear switches (clarified with redragon support that they are linear as their own video states tactile)
Looks good especially if you like rainbows.
Sounds good
Feels good
Hot-swappable
Bluetooth/wireless/wired

would you have been better off spending an extra couple of bucks and getting this https://www.umart.com.au/product/steelseries-apex-7-rgb-tkl-…?

    • +3

That Steelseries is wired only (no 2.4ghz + BT) and it also doesn't have hot-swappable switches.

Hot-swappable keyboards are slowly gaining popularity since you can customize them more easily, and they are generally more 'moddable' since they were designed for the user to take apart.

the Steelseries Apex 7 RGB TKL is a pretty solid keyboard though, even though it hails from a time when hot-swappable keyboards weren't super mainstream yet.

Haven't used the steelseries apex 7! I'd guess it is better purely for gaming. But no hot-swappability, no wireless/Bluetooth. Big losses for me personally.
I wasn't sure about the response time of this keyboard. When I play games I get called a bot most of the time. This keyboards response time doesn't seem to affect gameplay. Still getting called a bot and a cheat for playing like Im trying to win carpal tunnel as a prize.

      • I don't think anyone except Pro gamers would be able to make use of the faster response time

I believe analogue switches and/or shorter travels may be all the rage with them now. Wooting etc.

for this price i built a custom keyboard, and it doesnt look like shit

    • More details please

You could buy a cheap kit like this then pick your own switches, lubricant and keycaps, in basically any combination you like.

      • +2

using aliexpress or any other site (like taobao or something) can save you a ton of money.

i have both a tester68 and gas67 kit, both with gateron pro milky yellows and pbt keycaps that ran me about 80 dollars each on taobao.

buying on aliexpress would make it around 100 dollars so you could choose that route and avoid having to translate chinese.

even a keychron from mwave would be better than this.

        • I don't see anyone except enthusiasts saying bad things about this keyboard. It's important to factor in the time people would save by getting a keyboard that is close to enthusiast level for a good price. Pre-lubed, ready to go.

          • @Zoroaster: it could be because enthusiasts have experienced better boards, so theyre allowed to say bad things about this.

the time you save from this could be very important to many, but in my eyes investing an hour or too into just assembling a keyboard (which not including lubing could take like 30 minutes max) would benefit someones keyboard usage drastically.

again this is just my pov, im just sharing my opinion and what ive experienced of my friends' reddragon boards

I have been away from keyboard game for a while but $100 for a red dragon sounds insanely steep…

Their whole point was cheap AF and doesn’t suck.

    • exactly….
