Simplecom 65W USB-C GaN Charger Wall Plug - $23.20 + Delivery ($0 VIC C&C) @ CPL Online

200

Since everyone seems to be going GaN crazy on here at the moment, thought I'd share this deal.

Have bought a few of these now and they have no problem delivering 65w on the USB-C port and 45w when using the USB-A port as well. Have successfully charged all my USB-C laptops with it.

Happily, this will fast wireless charge one phone via a suitably equipped Qi pad at the same time as "Super Fast Charging" a Samsung phone.

Nice and compact, weighs about 120g, unfortunately has a gloss black finish so will look like crap after a few days dangling about in your backpack.

Pickup from any of CPL's physical stores in Melbourne metro (just bought another two from their West Melbourne store and the friendly guy there said they had plenty in stock), or + postage (looks like they will post for $4.95 within Melbourne metro area).

I tip my hat to you

        • Shall buy one now

      • Seems a lot when you can get a genuine Erunto or Heymix for a couple dollars more.

      • That $5 code requires $50 minimum spend…

Does this one make laptops with a metal exterior feel very tingly when charging? (Best terminology i can think of)

I have a Samsung 45W that has very minimal tinglyness when charging.

Anker and most other brands seem to give an uncomfortable amount of tinglyness.

    • I haven't noticed this on my metal chassis Dell Inspiron 13-7000 2n1, but yes I know the tingliness you are talking about.

      • I have the exact same laptop!

Ok I'll give this one a try.
Been looking for a 65W to charge laptop and phone simultaneously.

I think this Gan only charge a laptop at 45w while charging a phone, unless that is what you meant? Combined 65w?

          • +1

@AmperSand: Yes, this limits the power out of the USB-C port to 45w when you have something also plugged into the USB-A port.

Pen in the hinge crew represent! Going to be hard to move on from this laptop eventually - love having the pen right there, charged and synced and ready to go on the odd occasion I do need to use it (usually to e-sign a document)

I've always assumed it is due to lack of grounding?

      • Not an electrician but afaik most, if not all, usb chargers are just double insulated not earthed/grounded.

The fact that different chargers give me (and others) different amount of tinglyness leads me to think it's charger design.

The only ones that ever haven't for me are the ones that come with my laptops, which are always three pronged.

        • can confirm this is correct, as they have a little milliamp of current leakage to the ground, all chargers will do this if they don't have an earth connection but some do it more than others

    • If you feel tingling, can you try using an earthed cable? I know it's not possible with all wallmarts, but at least with the apple macbook charger, since it can use the extension cable, the tingling should disappear when using an earthed cable.

  • So Ok for i-gadgets?

  • I think mine is giving a bit of coil whine.

Everyone's GaN' crazy for these chargers

FYI it's the same charger as these on amazon. They're all made by the same manufacturer

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09Y5QZZTX/ref=emc_bcc_2_i

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Charger-Charging-Compatible-AirPod…

Which occasionally go on sale, so might be worth the wait if you don't need it now. But I do generally prefer to support physical brick and mortar stores

    • I got two of the ERUNTO (genuine ERUNTO) ones last week from amazon when they were ~$22…they do look the same but are actually slightly heavier than the Simplecom ones and the shape of the case is slightly different (the edges are more tapered on the ERUNTO).

  • No fire jokes… People must not know it's a Heymix 🤔

  • is there a reason laptops manufacturers don't include a GaN charger by default? cost

  • For something like this is better/faster to charge a laptop with one port and your phone with another or to charge your phone from your laptop usb?

    • IMO best not to charge via laptop in general as it causes unnecessary stress on it.

For "faster", it depends on how much the laptop can output (usually not a lot), so directly into a capable charger is usually "faster".
