  • just FYI, code excludes Carbon X1

edit: sorry OP, you already mentioned that

  • Not bad, but SSD upgrade used to be $49, now it's $149.

Yes. And don't forget the essential upgrade for X230 — $55 for Premium HD Display. It's IPS display and makes huge difference for anyone who works on their computer for long period of time. RAM and HDD can be easily upgraded, CPU is fast enough for everyday work (and X230 is not really for gaming), but do upgrade the display.

Make sure you choose the 2x2 option as it will still come with a webcam
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN too since it's not much more
Lenovo Slim USB Portable DVD Burner should be only an extra $1

Also if the x230 is like the x220 it will only support 7mm 2.5" drives so double check before you buy

      • +2

The IPS screen is pretty much mandatory, nearly any user would appreciate the difference
I'd go for the 9 cell battery for a little extra, bulge isn't really noticeable
Ram and a SSD are probably best to BYO
        Maybe internal 3G

..dammit, suddenly this laptop is pushing $1100

      • Strangely, Lenovo says "invalid configuration" for 3x antenna and Centrino Ultimate. I don't remember having this problem before. Just tested Lenovo US, OK there.

Are student prices stackable with this coupon?

    • +1

      i think yes

    • +1

yes, enter it at the end after customizing and adding to cart. Seems to be ~718 for a student

    • +1

Yes, entering the coupon works when in the student portal. Tested it out before I posted the deal to make sure :)

      • Thanks xxx, Merlict and Mailor.

Guys, don't forget to use StartHere for upto 3.75% cashback. It might not work due to the fact a coupon is being used but doesn't hurt to try - never know your luck ;)

44 dollars more and you can upgrade to an i5.. i think its worth it

I've been eyeing off the X220, now the X230 for a while now…. BUT that new keyboard is just hideous!

    • I don't mind the keyboard on my x230 but the trackpad is pretty bad

    • Although the chiclet keyboard isn't as good as the traditional ThinkPad style, it's still one of the best chiclet style keyboards available on laptops at the moment (most reviews seem to make a note on the new chiclet style still being very pleasant to type on; and from some brief use of the new keyboards, I have to agree).

  • Been tossing up for awhile between the T430 and Dell 15XPS, which would be the better comp. Suggestions? Ta.

    • ThinkPad T430 is 14" business laptop with good expansion, great keyboard, good build, docking station etc. You'll want to compare it with Dell Latitude E64xx series.

15XPS is a 15.6" multi-media laptop with Full HD screen, good graphics, etc. You'll want to compare it with Lenovo IdeaPad Y5xx series.

Yeah apple and orange. It really depends on what you want to do with it.

      • Cheers mate, that info really helps.. had been swaying towards the XPS will look at the Y-series too.

        • would you suggest the y580 over the xps15 due to the GTX660M over the GT640M graphics card or are there other factors I should consider?

  • +1

I've got the X220. IPS screen upgrade is a must. Shame about the resolution. :(

The Intel wireless is the bee's knees! It really sucks in the wireless signal even in areas where my iPad 3 struggles!

My i5 config comes to about ~$950 (with 2GB ram and Intel Graphics). Not bad but the Dell deal last week was a lot better.

    • Funny thing is that the only thing at Dell that's comparable to X230 is Dell Latitude E6230, and it's quite a bit more expensive than Lenovo.

      • And Latitude E6230 is not very good anyway, compared to X230.

  • Good deal on X230 - price after e-coupon is very close to the U.S. price.
