Another deal from Bing Lee, pretty nice for a 4050, again not too sure about the TDP or screen but I'd assume it'd be passable for a gaming laptop. Great specs, good price.

    • Estimated Battery Life (h): 4.5

Which means 2 hours battery life for real world use.

    • +5

      30min of gaming

    • +1

not exactly portable. 2.5kg too. I'd have to ask why these are being purchased instead of a desktop considering they'll likely never leave a desk.

      • +15

Might not be as portable as a traditional laptop but it is certainly more portable than a desktop, montor, keyboard and mouse + cables.

      • +1

I move mine everywhere, I got a Dell G5 for that very reason. I don't have any set place or space for that matter for a desktop set-up, I wouldn't consider myself a full on gamer but I needed a computer that was somewhat capable of the games I do play as well as having something for general use.

      • +1

Look man, when my girlfriend kicks me out of the house, I still need to game.

For real though, that is the general use case of these things. People with seperated parents, or need the horse power in the field, or are in deployment, or work fifo, etc.

Plus, portable battery exist for a reason.

      • Laptop + charger + mouse fits just fine in a laptop bag or backpack.

    • +1

      Or 45 minutes gaming

    • +2

You wouldn't really wanna game on battery mate. I'd say normal usage for office works would last you a good 3-3.5hrs or even more. Gaming wise just plug it in and treat it like a portable PC really.

  • How bad is the hinge on these laptops ? Last one got stuck and caused screen to be replaced.

    • Its a new chassis design, so probably worth the punt if you are in the market for it.

  • How's the thermals/noise on these?

    • +1

Excellent. A huge upgrade from previous generation.

  • +8

Thanks OP and Bing Lee. With CR cashback, this is cheaper than douchey HN. Even if it's more than HN, I would still get from BingLee.

What, why? Gerry is the deal maker. Don't be jelly of his success

      • +7

        You have a low bar for the definition of "success". See below for HN douchiness;

Don't hate the player hate the game. Gerry is the retail messiah and all the things he did he did it for himself and his franchisees. Don't hate him for looking after himself.

@CptnObvious: So a billionaire with billionaire resources destroys communities and you say don't hate him for looking after himself.
Someone with your resources can do little damage to communities, other than breeding, billionaires ruin nations
            BUT DON'T HATE HIM.

It’s the true capitalists like Gerry that made US great and aussies need to follow suit.

    how many NITS

  • would a 4050 be able to run ff14 at 4k 60 on low settings? i'm just looking for something cheap to play on when i visit my parents

    • +2

Probably not dude. 4050 is a 1080p card at best.

      • On FF14? Bro my 680m can play that on med.

Maybe 4k would be a stretch but 1440p definitely. It's a super easy game to run.

    • +1

Not on a 6GB mobile card.

  • If the screen panel is the same as the ones from the earlier 10/11th gen CPU Nitro 5 - colours are washed out.

  • +3

every Acer Nitro I've had (2 now) ends up having black screen of death

wonder if they have fixed it now

    • +1

Same my acer nitro (3060) just died after 13 months - just outside the 1-year manufacturer warranty

Acer have agreed to repair/replace the motherboard under ACL but it's taking ages

      • +2

I reckon they do it so that is just lasts that much

funny thing is after the part was replaced under warranty, same thing happened after a few months

        poorly designed

    • Mine with 1060 still going strong after 3 years

      • +2

        Special edition lol

  • Under the spec page on bing lee:

    MEMORY/STORAGE
    Storage Capacity (GB): 512
    RAM (GB): 6

    • Forgot the 1 as 16gb is that what most come standard

  • +1

Nice deal, I have ghis chassis with the 3060 and i9 it has served me well so far, no heating issues and gpu allways clocked

According to Acer's website the TDP for this one is "up to 140W", which is pretty impressive if true.

    • yeah if i needed a laptop right now and had this budget this would be the one.. my 3060 is 140w and is awesome

      • +3

heads up mate, low end 40 gen doesnt work the same way 30 gen does, performance scaling past 100w is nonexistent for 4070 and below cards - and they cant even boost past 100w in the first because because nvidia hardcapped the voltage on them

    • +2

just false advertising as per the usual. these low end 40 gen can not run past 100w because you are capped by the voltage limitation set by nvidia

    • The 3050 model has a 95W TDP. I'd assume the 4050 is similar. Can anyone find anywhere that confirms this?

  • +1
  • The previous model Nitro 5 I bought for $1100 with a 3060 was decent, but the difference between it and a Legion 5 is pretty stark as far as thermals go. Stopping the CPU from sitting at 90c was a constant battle on the nitro.

But the Legion was almost double the price, so yeah

  • +1

Acer Nitro are usually good pricing for the hardware specs. I was tempted to buy it numerous times when I want to do some gaming.

However, in the end I built myself a gaming desktop as realistically I won't be moving it away from my table. The price and performance is better.

If I wanted portability then I would purchase Steam deck, Asus ROG Ally, Switch etc.

  • +1

The price is so good for these things, but I've always wondered longevity of Nitro devices. I know of a few people who owns them and they replace them often, once every 2 or 3 years.

    • +1

Got mine for 2 years and the screen is starting to go black now and then, will not last much longer, even when I've been extra careful with it. Won't be buying Acer again despite the price

    • I own one with 1060, still works well after 3 years. Quality wise Nitro series are on lowest tier which is reflected in price.

  • +1

So is the 4050 worth buying over the 3050 and is the ram 1x16 or 2x8 in this thanks.

    • +1

Going from 4GB to 6GB of VRAM is pretty good. The 4050 is definitely a jump in performance as well

  • Went and looked at this at Harvey Norman and asked the salesman if it was 1x16 or 2x8 ram and he said 1x16 and he reckons its ddr5.

  • Does it have Thunderbolt 4?

    • From what I've read it does indeed have thunderbolt.

    Official Product Page

eBay still has it for $998 delivered with code HGTAUG

    • They won't deliver though. I tried buying this but it is only click and collect. This was their response:

"Unfortunately the model NH.QLZSA.00 is currently not available for postage due to availability issues at our warehouse.

We are unable to manually process the order via our eBay platform, sorry."

      • That is interesting as I have been looking at this laptop on their ebay page. I last checked about 12hrs ago and there was 10 in stock according to ebay and delivery was an option. Right now I noticed they have 0 in stock. Disappointing.
