Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including May 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Have they changed their plans again since they sent out the last email about changes 3 months ago ???

I've not received any new emails regarding plan changes.

    • They have not. This is one of the updated plans as of July.

They have not. This is one of the updated plans as of July.

        They have.

This is the email Boost sent out 3 months ago…

        $230 for 160GB 12 months
        $300 for 240GB 12 months

        • JV you've done it again! $300 sim 240gb for existing customers 260gb for new

          • @gingerscale: Where in the post does it say it is only for new customers?

  • +1

Purchased one from this deal and activated it yesterday :'(

  • +8

    HODL, wait for $45 cashback.

Good deal, unfortunately have 3 months left on my 12 month pre-paid service.

Even without cashback $250 is a good deal.

It's not clear what this means- "SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering."

within 30 days of ordering to get cashback, or will the SIM not work after 30 days?

    • +2

Within 30 days of ordering to get cashback.

    • +1

I think Sim will work after 30 days but no cashback if you activate Sim after 30 days

    • OK Thanks

Do I buy it now @ $250 or wait for another 2-3 months and risk paying $300 without any cashback

      decisions decisions.

Does CashRewards really check to see if you activate it within 30 days or pay you regardless?

      • I am on a same boat. Mine expire in November

      • +4

        Yes, they do check.

        • Thank you.

      • My path with Cash Rewards has been rocky at best but the one thing I can say is their tracking of us is very detailed.

  • Can we return the unused SIM card within 7 days or 30 days?

    • +1

I think it’s 14 days, but needs to confirm with the boost, it was such a pain for me to cancel the order last time, I had to initiate a chargeback from my bank.

      • I think they cannot track that envelope, which happened on me before as well. : (

        • They used startrack to deliver the SIM card, but boost mobile support is hopeless, after made a number of calls and emails, I decided to contact my credit card provider to initiate a chargeback, and the boost said it will take them at least 30 days to issue a refund, which is ridiculous.

    • Last year I wanted a return, so spent hours over the chat. They would happily accept a return and always asked me to wait for separate return instructions and postage label email which would never arrive! Finally gave up and listed the sim on eBay!

  • Oh man this is good. Too bad gotta activate within 30 days

  • Is moving from Telstra to boost allowed and considered as new customer ? My current Telstra prepaid expires last week of this month

    • Yes

    • Dot point 9 on the table from OP :)

    • yeah. I was with Telstra, just bought this and ported over, as usual the Cash Rewards reported zero cashback even though I'm now roaming on 5G with Boost.

  • +1

Currently on boost with my current prepaid finishing 3rd of October. Should I just eat the couple of weeks loss?

    • Do the math

      • It will be about $7 if I wait for the day the cashback deal expires.

        • It's ozbargain. People froth $7 savings, so I imagine you'll get support around here. However, it is your call to make.

          • @ninnypoop: I think I'll buy it on the 22nd. Thinking it's likely the cashback will drop by more than $10 leaving me worse off.

          • @ninnypoop: Well its the 22nd and the offer disappeared. Hopefully a new one soon.

    • Oh snap! Same.

  • I moved Telstra to Boost about 8 months ago. I guess from what I see here they are cracking down on using these for recharge. So I'll probably port back to Telstra for a month, the port back into Boost after that. Does that sound feasible and appropriate way?

Still have about 4 months of current Boost Sim before I do anything tho

  • waiting for lower data yearly deal. 260gb is way too much for people work from home.

  • +1

Currently on boost plan, which finishes end of August. Will I be able to recharge my plan using this or will I need to port to another provider and then come back?

    Any help please.

    • +1

As below, ask in the chat to transfer your number to the new sim card. Saves the hassle of going across three sims.

  • +1

I’m already on Boost, and would like to get this deal since mine’s expiring on Sept. Can I buy a random $2 sim to port out then port back to new Boost sim after about a day?

    • +1

Just jump on to chat and ask them to transfer your number to the new $300 sim

  • Any idea when this cashback and deal expires?

  • Are you restricted to 21gb a month for each month over the 12 month period?

What if you need more than 21 a month?

    • no, you can blow it all in one month if you like. Thats just them showing how it compares to a monthly plan.

  • Anyone have a lead time on shipping at the moment? Ordered on 10/8 for delivery to Perth CBD and have not received any tracking info yet. Used to be very quick when I was Sydney based.

  • anyone else running into the 'Something went wrong' page when activating?

  • +1

The deal says expired but cash rewards page still shows as $30 cashback?

  • I HODL too hard on this. Now there's no cashback at all :(

  • Thanks OP for this one!

I went ahead and purchased it as my current one is expiring early Oct. Sim arrived the following day after ordering back in August. It is coming up to the 30 day mark since purchase, (as part of the cashback terms) I went to try and activate my new sim via the chat, first agent I wasn't successful and gave up. Second agent, I was somewhat more successful, they said that they do not allow customers to transfer an existing Boost number or just recharge their existing service. Then they said on this occasion they can just activate and deactivate the new sim and apply a credit to my existing sim and asked if I would like to proceed. I left it at that, to have a think about it, as I wasn't sure the cashback would track in this manner. Next minute (an hour later), I received an email saying the new sim had been activated. Confused, I messaged another agent this morning and they said that the new sim had been deactivated and that a credit had been applied to my account. As I hadn't confirmed my choice and not really anything could be done at this stage, I requested that they also apply the bonus data that I missed out on to my account and managed to squeeze 25gb out of them. Here is hoping that because the new sim was briefly activated the cashback will still track. If not, lesson learned. Just port out on a cheap $2 sim next time and port back in :D
