Sofa - Where Do OzBargainerz Get It from?

Hello fellow OzBargainerz,

Where do you buy a sofa for your apartment?

Or maybe the best place to look for decent furniture?

Thanks

Edit: budget is in the range of 1.5k - 2k

  • Depends on your budget and style? What if it's not an apartment?

    • Budget anything under or close to 2k?

    • What do you even mean?

Did you not just post here & buy the first sofa that an OzB'er linked?

    Nature strip

    • Yep. Followed by a very intensive steam cleaning and sanitising

      • You don't like eating TV dinners on the couch next to some randoms sexy time stains? Don't be a baby 😉

      • When you visit someone's house do you insist on steam cleaning and sanitizing the couch before sitting on it, or do you simply bring your own chair?

        • I don't visit people with infectious skin conditions, or parasites, or any number of known nasties.

          • @outlander: How about people that do it on the couch without putting a towel down?

Facebook Marketplace is the new scumtree

Jokes aside, I use Facebook Marketplace to check whatever couch I am wanting to buy new to see how it ages. You can see where they wear most, how the cushions age over time - very helpful and has ruled out a few that I was keen on once I saw how blegh the cushions got after "a year" (which I suspect was more like 3 or 4…but hey, its FB Marketplace, what do you want?)

  • I went with Dankz after a lot of checking alternatives. Seemed to have the nicest couches for very good prices.

I bought mine from a furniture shop. It was for a house though so not sure if that helps

  • From over there

    IKEA

I must have sat on dozens of couches in this price bracket. A couch at IKEA was by far the most comfortable, and has washable covers which is handy

    • Can vouch for the quality and longevity. Individual washable and replacable covers are awesome too.

Can’t recommend anywhere because what I like might not suit your apartment.

Furniture is very subjective. Go and see and sit on some at shops and then buy.

Facebook marketplace. The last two couches I got where free and in great condition

  • St Vinnies

  • I negotiated a set from Harvey Norman. I wanted leather and delivery and they did it all for a great price + a dining set.

  • Bought a pair of from freedom. They were doing buy 1 second half price. Delivery times was looong.

  • It’s not cheap and takes ages to be manufactured and delivered but I like my sofa from Plush.

  • I bought from https://www.loungeincomfort.com.au/
    Their showroom is at
Unit 32, 85-115 Alfred Road, Chipping Norton, NSW

There was a very long wait time before delivery, something like three months, because the sofa was made and then shipped from China.

Stalk rich suburbs on FB marketplace for some bored housewife looking to throw out perfectly good furniture.

My full genuine leather lounge suite for free was amazing. Looking at over 4k for similar new.

    • So true, my mate's girlfriend [older with high paying job] gets bored with her old couch every 6 to 12 months.

Some people have too much money 🤦

  • Ikea - nice range, good warranties and good quality.

  • Thing is with a unit, make sure your stairs and/or lift can take the sofa, maybe you need to get it out of the box but most lifts are 2.2m tall but the width is a different story.

I lived in a nice unit with a nice big lift but I moved into a smaller one and had to measure the lift and door way, I had to buy a modular sofa instead of a one piece which I wanted.

Either way, 1.5k - 2k can buy a nice sofa, your best bet is to go to a showroom and test them out. I would research online, see which one you like then go to the store and test it out. This is what I did, also in-store sales rep can shave off a little bit for you.

My husband has had his ikea couch for over 14 years and it's still in great shape, no sagging, washable covers. Covers are a bit tatty due to pets but no point changing them with toddlers around. Hopefully the quality hasn't deteriorated (much) now
