Wusthof Amici Villa 6 Piece Knife Block Set $1844.50 (RRP $3689.00) Delivered @ Myer

475

Looks like a decent price after a quick google search. If you nabbed 15% off my voucher it makes the deal even better. Personally i dont like bolster on my knives but to each their own.

I honestly don't know why this is posted here.

The kind of person who would burn $1800 on this quality of knife probably isn't on ozbargain.

    Just no

    • I honestly don't know why this is posted here.

Do you also feel the same way when people post about Tesla car promo's that get posted here or drones, cameras and other more expensive items?

No, other items you mention have utility.

It's not that it's expensive, it's that its fundamental value is much lower than this "bargain" price.

It wasn't worth it at full price, it isn't worth it at this bargain price, and it won't be unless it drops to under $600. Just because it's marked down off its "RRP" doesn't make it a bargain, otherwise let's all list every single baccarat knife block from House with faked mark down prices as a bargain.

Not sure why you're defending your deal so hard when lots of people who seem to know a bit about knives are telling you the same thing.

I have Japanese knives with varying qualities of steels, some factory made, some hand made, just about all of them hand sharpened. The most expensive I have is an artisan knife and these don't go "on sale" and costed $400 each.

These knives in comparison has nothing on them (materially or artisanally) so they shouldn't cost that much

Sure but based on market price its showing up at lower end of town. For me, that counts.

Nah you got me all wrong. Its not that im defending the deal, its that those that neg it would otherwise upvote premium items that carry a low production cost and you are also paying heavily for a name. Based on that, this deal is not much different (eg Dyson or a iPhone).

          As per my previous response.

You are comparing value vs market.. im posting based solely on market and price vs market.

On a different note, we have chatted before and nice to chat with you again.

If you can recall it was a discussion over the Wusthof Chefs knife deal back many years ago. Still have it, love it and she still looks like new 👌

          • @vash5: Hahaha, “ based on market price its showing up at lower end of town. For me, that counts.”
90% off closing down sale rugs store owner have a special invitation for you to their store.

Man, I have a bridge to sell you, lol…

          • @vash5: I get that you're spending time trying to find deals for people and that's great, for this though I think you could have just saved the effort and found something else. Just being real.

            Also nice to chat again

          • @vash5: Another thing on the topic of market vs value, but that's exactly what we are talking about.

People value the product and that determines the price. What people are willing to pay for said product is the market value.

I'm saying the market value is probably closer to $600 (at most), not what wustof think people should pay for it.

Real ozbargainer… saved $1844.50 by not purchasing it. Will use this saving for other deals and mortgage. Happy with my 300ish set from homeware always on sales. Not to be on Ozbargain if you can buy this $hit

    • If you bought 2 sets you would have saved $3689 tho…

    • 100%

Ive asked many Traditional Japanese chefs what knives they use… i think the folks that buy these for home use would be very surprised at their answers 😮

Find your local Vietnamese grocer and they should have Kiwi brand knives.
They used to be $2 a pop, but more like $4-5 these days.

I bought a bunch for an activity at a club (chopping up stuff) and didn't want to take my own knives.
I had intended just to throw them away after but 5 years later they are still in my kitchen draw and get used daily.

They are better than the Masterchef "freebies" my wife got from Coles last year.

Would I be wusthof buying this or a cheaper brand?

    • buy whichever is easier to clean the wusthof …

    • Wusthof.

    • I like what you did there, but to answer your question, yes.

  • 'Wusthof … 6 Piece Knife Block Set $1844.50 (RRP $3689.00)'

BWAH HAH HAH HAAAAAAR !!! Thanks for the belly laugh !!

I got my several Wüsthof knives for like $5 from garage sales, and even then don't use them due to the weight being cumbersome, so the above price amuses me greatly …

  • Perfect! I'll get two sets….

  • Good tip from a chef; Kiwi knives. They're made in Thailand and cost about $10 each. I've got 3 of them and even though they're not designed to last for very long each one has gone through several sharpenings and has held up to daily use for about 2-3 years. They're not going to win any awards for style, but they're extremely practical.
