Looks like a decent price after a quick google search. If you nabbed 15% off my voucher it makes the deal even better. Personally i dont like bolster on my knives but to each their own.

  • Time to cash out some of my Dogecoin and buy these knives.

If I was filthy rich and dgaf id buy stuff like this, and this is the market its aimed at. If you dont have a super overpriced product for rich people, then you are throwing money away.

    • Just like OLED TVs and iPhones

    • Nah filthy rich people have personal shoppers who will do their research for them. It's more likely they'd get custom made knives

      • Picking an point not critical to the overall argument and arguing against it. Good ol the internet, you never disappoint.

  • Bargain. 😂

  • Can I chuck these in the dishwasher?

    • Would probably kill them. You should not be throwing knives at anybody - these days its not OK

  • Surely our interests rate still have room to go up, if a $1844 kitchen knife is considered as a bargain.

  • I'd absolutely love to know the cost price to manufacture these knives and block as I very much doubt the quality is any better than a standard set you could get from House or somewhere similar. Sounds like they're over-inflating the value of their knives, but alas I'd like to know anyways just encase I'm wrong.

    • +1

You should ask how much margin is Myer making on this, I’m doubt if they pay more than $500 to the manufacturer.

    • What’s the cost price of an iPhone? Can’t you do the same thing an iPhone does with a cheap Chinese android phone?

  • You could tape them to your robovac to make a very expensive killer robot / kithenhand …

  • Buy 2 get an additional 30% off

    Don't forget the accessories

    That's not a Knife… this is a Knife

  • F me dead. I got a 7 piece Wusthof Classic for $300 from King of Knvies a few years ago.

As I left the store, I wasn't sure I was getting a great deal. But wife and I use it many times a day, so it's been worth it.

    • Yup, if taken care of they will outlast many high end purchase.. both in utility and longevity. To each their own 😊

  • Thanks. Bought a set just to use it to spread butter

  • These are made from Megalodon teeth honed into the tips of the blades.

    OK, whatever.

  • honestly speaking…..why? im not saying this is a bad deal but just the general idea of Knifes that cost 3.6k RRP makes NO sense to me

even if i won the U.S billons…..i wouldnt buy these

it isnt like people are coming over to your mansion susing out what youre cutting up your chicken with…..

    • +2

Just like how ozbargainer buy TVs that cost over $5000 or phone that cost over $2000 or cars that cost over $100,000. It’s not like anyone is gonna care besides the purchaser.

      • Exactly why i posted. Thank you for understanding 🙏☺️

  • +4

Unpopular opinion, but I think this might be a deal.

Yes, the knife block and leather were overpriced, but ~$300 per knife would've been comparable to mid level hand-forged japanese knives. Whether they are comparable utility wise that's another question. I personally wouldn't buy german "lifestyle" knives, but others do. I don't get it but I respect their choices.

Yeah nah… $1800 certainly won't fly you to japan and come back with six knives. I'm not gonna mention names, but hundreds of people queue on a custom knives release that cost thousands a piece, the retailer had to draw lots!

Kmart sets good enough? Good on you but for some of us life's just too damn short.

    • Just happy to share and help out anywho who might be interested.

Thank you for your comment 😊✌️

  • Bought. Need something to cut my SPAM blocks.

  • +1

Make sure to clean them in the dishwasher…

    • Lolz.. we kid but we all know people who do this 🙈🙊😨

      • I also know people who don't cut tomatoes with their Japanese knives lest it ruins them.

  • +1

Good for a backup set, thanks OP.

    • Most welcome 😁

  • Whoever buys this at full RRP has belongs at OzMansion. They should make that cousin site, only for the rich. Instead of bargains, they post and look for the most expensive thing to buy.

  • +1

Hmm was just about to spend this much on an exhaust for my car. Knives it is!

    • Hahah.. enjoy 🤙

  • I'd rather spend that money on a nice holiday interstate

    • To each their own 😊

Just think about how much you spend on phones and if this will outlast them 🫣

  • Seems like a set of knives designed when plenty of cash was being printed juuuuuust prior to cashrate rises…

    • Not really, its inline with previous sets based on their lineup at the top end.

  • +1

I am still happy with my Kiwi knifes set lol

    • +1 for Kiwi knives. They're awesome for the money.

  • +3

    What a wuste hof money

    • +1

If they last you for decades or a lifetime vs say your phone, car or you 70" tv is it really a waste considering you pay loads of cash for those and they dont last anywhere near as long.

      • If you can get the same quality and performance for thousands less, yes it is still a waste of money.

  • Wondering who bought > 0

    • I am sceptical to buy one! Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) might raid my dilapidated house in possession of assets.

  • -1

Must come with a Michelin Chef

Those who say this is a deal are obviously on the landlord side of town.
If you buy these knives NEVER ever whinge about the cost of living again.

    • +1

Yeah cause we never see brand new iPhones on the ‘renter’ side of town

      • Yeah cause we never see brand new iPhones on the ‘renter’ side of town

These knives will easily outlast any iPhone and i agree with you.

If you get 10yr out of this set you can bet that you will be spending WAY more on phones in the same timeframe for a device that effectively did the same thing as your previous model.

  • +1

RRP must be the new unicorn buzzword. It has as much gravitas as Lance Armstrong

    • Ok sure, but the price is low vs compared to market.

  • +1

For this price, they better wash and sharpen themselves automatically.

  • Perfect to use with my new sharpening gizmo..

I think I should buy this for the wife for our anniversary lol. Though she may stab me with one of them.

at rockwell 58, these are no different to any ordinary german 1.4116 steel. $165 would be an OK price.

    • -1

Just because its Rockwell 58 doesn't mean the the quality of material is equal to that of other 58s. Regardless you neged because of your personal taste / pref vs if its a bargain based on market pricing.

      • +4

it doesn't mean this is better than any others at all, regardless of your personal pref / taste. it is fundmentally a bad deal for any 1.4116 steel.

        • So is paying for a Tesla a bad deal?

  • I cannot even imagine how nice these must be to use. I have far cheaper globals that I got for $250 a few years back courtesy of ozbargain. Still going strong. Will stick with economy class

    • -2

Youll also find that if you have a problem with them that Wusthof will have great sales support. I have herd people have dropped them before in the past and damaged them only to get them replaced for free.

If this set lasts you 10yr.. you effectively spent $180 a year. Most people spend more on coffee if they buy just one a week ($5 x 52 weeks = 260).

      • +1

You haven't "effectively spent $180 a year". You have spent $1800 in one lump sum. Or even worse you've spent $1800 on credit.

If you want to use your coffee analogy, I suggest you cut your one coffee a week for 10 years, put $5 a week in the bank, and then see in 2033 if spunking the $1800 you've saved on some knives is a good idea.

  • Forget Wusthof, I used to sell CUTCO knives back in the day. It took me one whole week to realise that it's a pyramid scheme.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC5lsemxaJo

    • Not unique to knives but people still buy Dyson's 🤷‍♂️

      • CUTCO used to have P2P marketing. You get unsuspecting housewives for an interview and sell em.

    • screw those guys. i got caught up in that mess as well - lasted 2 weeks with a branch led by a psychopathic narcissist

      • Which year? Did they show you the execs living it up in the hotels, nice cars etc? It was such a flashy video I still remember it from 2001….

        • +1

'97 or '98. Never saw any videos. Flashy arrogant twerp running the show, wanting us to all go slog it out selling crap knives so he could get his holiday bonus to Fiji or whatever.

Although it did teach me to appreciate a good knife - just not from them

          • @DJR9000: Must have been their hayday… Website is now offline.

Their scissors were cool . One could cut a coin. I was young and easily impressed though.

  • HAP40 or bust. ZDP189 ok as well but these are neither of the two for this high price.

    • So you neg the deal because of your personal preference vs what you would normally pay??

      • For this price, yes. I assume you know what HAP40 and zdp189 knifes are, their Rockwell and amount of sharpening required.

Nothing personal against your deal but it’s not a good value for money imho, thus neg.

        • For this price, yes. I assume you know what HAP40 and zdp189 knifes are, their Rockwell and amount of sharpening required

Sure but im order to sharpen those you need special tools that carry a premium price tag and know how to use them.

Nah dont take it personally, just trying to understand how people justify a personal choice to neg vs on the deal itself.

Not having a go at you as well, but i see you have posted before about TVs that are >$1500 meanwhile you can pick up a 70" from Aldi for $700. Given thats the case, would you be included to neg your own deal under the same logic?

          • -1

@vash5: All I will answer to your comment trying to cherry pick other “deals” that users shared from years back as a comparison, is that 1.) I bought the TV I posted the deal for, and 2.) no one else negd or commented how bad of a deal it was.

            Have a nice week

          • @vash5: You and 2024 have same type of argument, by digging people’s past vote and post as point of argument to validate your deal, that’s so cringe. I wonder you both are just same person running two accounts, or you both myer and/or wusthof employees?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: I agree, looking at your upvote for that keyboard, particularly when there are far cheaper ones that do the same thing, is pretty cringe, especially when looking at your downvote on this set for that very reason.

              Lmao.

Oh btw, the numbers of votes validate the deal. Your vote is insignificant. It has had no effect. It means nothing.

You seem to be mistaken on how deals/votes work. Nobody needs to refer to your cringy past behaviour to validate the deal aha. The validation is right there at the top of the post. The upvotes have it.

            • @[Deactivated]: Champ you need to settle down.

The entire purpose of me bringing up your past deals was for you to reflect on your own actions and if are bias and you are being a hypocrite.

But based on your reply, you clearly seem to lack the self awareness to make such a reflection.

You do you.. i can assure you I dont work for Myer or Wusthof any more than you do for Amazon.

  • Cost price is less than $500.

    • +1

Probably, but you could make a similar arguments for a BMW, iPhone, hand bags, shoes or anything else that carries a premium price tag. Whats your point?

Its posted because of the price mate vs rrp and what else is available in the market.

  • +5

I want you go buy it for yourself before advocating people that this is a “decent” price. It’s an absolutely bullshit price. You just spamming.

    • +2

You are welcome to share a better deal for the same product.

      • +1

You can help by reporting negative votes that don’t comply with the voting guidelines

        • +1

True, but I'm not a fan of censorship as well. If you are included to make a silly comment id rather people see it.

      • Posting an over-inflating price products is not a bargain. You think you are being helpful?

        • Yes. To people that have subscribed to alerts for these knives, OP deserves an upvote.

          • @2024: People who subscribed to this knife are gullible. We try to warn others some deal are just shit, like this knife slapped with crazy price tag and take a half off still a crazy price.

Whoever thinks this is a good deal are either: 1. Work for Wusthof and/or Myer, 2. Is a troll, and 3. Gullible. If you are no.1 you are sock puppeting which will be banned, if you are no.2 you are not welcome here, if you are no.3 we are just trying to help you understand that you are being scammed.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Pfft you and some like you preach all this vague nonsense about knives yet you treat it like some sort of forbidden knowledge and fail to give any recommendations at all.

I see you upvoted a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard @ $44 but there are some Bluetooth keyboards < $4.00 (less than 1/10th the cost) on aliexpress. Practice what you preach. Hypocrisy manifests in various forms doesn’t it.

              • -1

@2024: In fact I’m quite open if anyone seeking advice on knife or sharpening stone, I received couple of dm which I reply and glad to help.

Okay, you have to stop right there, first digging on my past votes, that’s a bit cringe, I didn’t dig any of your or op’s past posts or comments, because our argument is on this post and this post alone. Secondly, comparing upvote on Logitech to aliexpress keyboard that costs less than $4, and calling me hypocrites, please just stop, you started to sound a bit troubling now.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Accusing OP of spamming, accusing me of either sock puppetting, trolling or being gullible, and it’s only now you think it’s starting to sound troubling? Ha! Ahaha

I’m comparing an upvote on an expensive name brand product to a down vote on an expensive name brand product. Duh. Can’t believe I had to spell it out.

                  • @2024: That’s all from me, have a good night.

                    • +1

@[Deactivated]: Ngl it wouldn’t have hurt to have that thought 7 posts ago, eh? Before accusing OP of spamming?
“Wondering” if OP and I were breaking OzB TOS and are the same person, etc.

Go into our post history. Dig the evidence up like I have, or stop accusing us of stuff based purely on your lies.

                      • @2024: Cheers for the support and upvote 🙏😊

That poor bastard cant see the can't see the forest for the trees and some people are just like that.

I wouldn't waste any more of your time on him.

                        Thanks again 👍

I own this set and since buying it I've noticed that I don't need to cut meat anymore, the knife just cuts it for me and puts it in the pan and cooks it perfectly for me. I also found the end of a rainbow and defeated the leprechaun at the end in a 1v1 battle with just this knife block.

  • if you guys have seen their tax invoice from the supplier then you would stop buying from Myers n David Jones. I've worked in the industry in the past. It's not a OZbargain price.
