  • Are there cables designed to only handle power? Any idea if data can be transferred over them? Say from laptop to USB C dock

    • +3

      Should handle 100w.

480Mbps data so USB 2.0 speeds. I wouldn't be using these with a dock.

      • +1

This. USB 2.0 speeds are enough for basic stuff like 4K webcam usage. I've been using cheap Baseus 100W cables (in 1m and 2m lengths) for a few years now, they've worked perfectly all this time.

        • Any idea if it will work with a dual screen setup on 1080p displays?

          • +1

@DannyBoy: You mean you want to use them as data cables? Very unlikely to work — as stated, these are charging cables and they top out at USB 2.0 speeds. If you're going to use them to hook up monitors and so on, you'll need to get the Thunderbolt type cables which handle 40Gbps transfer rates. These generally cost 3-5x the price of typical cheap charging cables.

            For example:

            • @deadpoet: That's the one, Thunderbolt was the word I was after. Cheers

            @DannyBoy: Not likely

  • Item doesn't show in the ebay app for some reason

    • +1

      Does for me (android/pixel)

      • Same with a samsung / android

  • Personally, preferred the Anker deal from yesterday for a handful more dollars.

    • Is Anker better than Baseus?

      • +4

        Yes.

      • +1

Anker has been around for ages in the US market, well over a decade, and are regarded as pretty much first tier when it comes to USB chargers and cables. I usually use my Dell and Lenovo chargers for USB-C, and I would regard Anker as the next best alternative but with far more convenient ports and form factors. Put it this way, I bought a couple of cables from that other deal just to have as spares.

Far as I can tell, Baseus is more of a China domestic brand (I've bought their stuff from their official Taobao store when I lived in Asia) which has also recently made it into the Australian market. It's not bad like many of the generic brands are, but it's certainly a bit more cheap and cheerful.

TBH, when I moved back to Oz, I was surprised to see the brand here at all, then I realised that the Australian market has become saturated with weird Chinese brands (usually with funny names) because the market here is so cost-sensitive.

    • Agreed! Anker makes great cables, still using a Powerline II lightning cable from 2017!

    (profanity) baseus and (profanity) heymix

They refuse to provide tax invoice for my order for last FY. If you want to claim for tax deduction purpose, please think again before buying.

    • +2

You have evidence that you've paid for it, that's enough for tax purposes

      • -1

Nah you need a invoice with a ABN number to be qualified as a tax invoice.

        • +3

          Not for deduction.
This is for providing one from your business.

Importing products are tax deductible but don’t have ABN’s lol.
Companies wouldn’t make money otherwise. Losses/expenses would outweigh profits

if you want low cost, get ikea cables for $4. amazing build quality, local warranty, recycled material.

if you want to splurge, get a USB-IF certified cable. anker cables are also quite good, even the ones that aren't USB-IF certified, but yea, can opt to just go for the USB-IF certified ones.

  • I was looking for more USB A to USB C cables since all my 2m Baseus ones are now in use. Thought my wish had been granted. Oh well, the wait continues.
