  • only bad thing is battery life 1250mah, other than looks good.

    $5 postage to WA

I'm tempted to get one as a spare phone…

I did get one for $30 last time from Big W… sold it to a friend who needed a phone

And this one is black!… oh the temptation…

  • +1

    wlan as well…good find

  • Just bought one… bargain (but not as good as Big Ws price:P )

  • does it have warranty?

  • +2

Just got one in-store, they will match the online price.

Interestingly they're branded as red bul mobile and come with a red bull $2 starter kit.

Also note the ebgames website is wrong but the specsheet is correct. The phone is only 3G 850 & 2100 not 3G 900 like the website says.

    • Arrgghh…bought earlier based on the specs on the EBGames website….wanted the 900 3G for Optus regional ;-( Reckon they would cancel?

      • +3

Under the Trade Practices Act 1974 they'd be legally obliged to as they falsely advertised their product.

        • +5

The TPA actually no longer exists, the new legislation is called the Competition and Consumer Act. Which is actually good news, because it really gave us even more power in terms of returns than the TPA.

        • except that the Il-liberal fair tading offices all lean to the business and NSW OFT backs out if the business will not do the right thing and they tell you to go to the tribunal because they will NOT regulate the businesses they make us think they will.
they also cut government funds and staff who then are too scared to do anything which offends their Il-liberal leaders in bed with business at all costs, even when the consumers [citizens] are ripped off.

      • +1

Yes, no issue there. Product not as advertised.

    • Bugger I need 900 3G

    • So can I use for vodafone network?

    • newbie here. what 3g should I look for and why is it better? hard to find research which tells me what the dual and quad bands are and if I can get by with 3g instead of 4g [reading pc user tells me so.]https://www.ebgames.com.au/tablets-159229-HTC-Cha-Cha-Black---UNLOCKED-Tablets
      out of stock?

  • +1

    cheap UNLOCKED 850 wireless modem!

  • Are these brand new sealed in the box? Good to give as a christmas present.

    • +1

      yep, they're new

    • Our HTC ChaCha box was -open- we I pulled it out of the -huge- Red Bull box that it came in.

      • My experience:
Red Bull box = sealed with shrink wrap.
Small HTC Cha Cha box inside the Red Bull box containing the phone: seal broken.

        Glad I returned it.

  • Just picked up one from EB Games and inserted my $2 Suretel SIM, and it says "Network locked - emergency calls only". Any thoughts? I haven't inserted the bundled Red Bull SIM - figured that I shouldn't have to give Red Bull my details for an 'unlocked' phone.

    • maybe they're selling the red bull version in-store and the unlocked version online??

    • +6

Ah, figured it out. You can unlock immediately for free at https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

What it costs to unlock from Vodafone

'Soft-locked' mobile devices are free to unlock from the Vodafone network. If you have purchased a 'hard-locked' mobile device from a Vodafone outlet in Australia, there may be a cost of up to $100 to unlock it.

        1. so it is free???????????????????????

Note: Unlocking online or through Customer Care requires a credit card payment.
        2. but are yuou charged then for free unlocking????????????????

confusing to this newbie who has not unlocked a phone outside contract.

Accepted cards are: Visa®, MasterCard® or AMEX® (Australian credit cards only)
        There is a discount of:

$25 if you unlock using our online facility
$50 if it has been more than 6 months since you purchased from a Vodafone outlet in Australia

i've bought this phone from red bull mobile and was able to unlock it free on the vodafone website immediately.

      • +1

got mine unlocked immediately from the code given by the website. Very nice phone for the price. No lag … smooth as silk. Got the OTA updates (two of them) before attempting the unlock. All good!

  • how does the cha cha compare to the lg optimus spirit or the Lg L3 400 that was available at coles for $49? i still havent opened the box for the coles LG i wonder if i can get my money refunded if i return it as its been over 1 month now? heres a comparision they seem to be similar specs but im leaning towards the Chacha as it has a 5mp camera. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4043&idPhone2=…

    • it depends if you want a physical keyboard or not

      • the chacha has a touch screen as well hasnt it?

        • It does indeed

        • it does but its smaller

  • Thanks OP. Can someone tell me whether this can be used as a wireless hotspot so I can use one of those woolies cards and surf with my laptop? A comment above makes me think YES, but I can not discern from the specs what attribute makes that possible. Thanks a;;!

    • +1

from the link coolsteps posted, it's called "Wi-Fi hotspot"

      • Thank you. I had originally only looked at the link posted by the OP.

        Thanks again.

        • +1

          np.

it also does USB tethering to your laptop

        • Thanks!

  • Can someone check if Ulysse Speedometer works on the ChaCha without SIM Card? It should just use GPS signal… Need a temporary speedo as ours is busted! :( I don't feel like putting my G.Nexus on the dashboard under the hot sun!

    • +2

An ordinary in-car GPS would do the job fine, woudn't it?

      • Yeah, most GPS devices make for very accurate speedometers.

On my Garmin you can tap the speed readout in the corner and it brings up a full size speedo, which makes it easy to read with just a quick glance.

  • Hi
Can someone confirm this is 3G 1)850/900/2100
    or 2) 850/2100
    or 3) 900/2100

It may be different models even instore still unlocked or Locked with Red Bull. I call 3 stores One said it is unlocked, the other two said it locked to Red Bull. I think it can be unlocked from Vodafone web site? Thanks. Can the 850/2100 still OK for TPG or liveconnect in Sydney ? Can 900/2100 still OK for Vodafone in Sydney ?

    • The one I bought has 3G 850/2100. No 3G 900.
It was locked, but I got it unlocked via Vodafone website in less than 2 min.

  • Back in stock online. Just bought one…..

    • Out of stock again. That was quick.

jeebuz, look at that thing, welcome to 2002!

  • Whats the typical battery life like on this thing? Last 3/4 of a day or 1 day or 1.5 days ?

    • on the weekend when i hardly used it, i went from fully charged to about 20% in 1 day and 23 hours.

then yesterday it went from fully charged to 20% in 10hours with brief data usage every 10-15 minutes and a 3 hour block where i had wifi hotspot enabled.

on my usage patterns the average is about 1 day 10 hours

      • Thats with sensors disabled?

        • yep. no bluetooth, no GPS.

  • +2

BTW This is advertised as $65 on EB website ??

  • I received my phones via the mail. With the phones I received the security seals have been cut and they have put clear sticky tape over the top. Anyone else notice this with theirs?

    • send them an email and see what they say. The phone should be new..

    • The units I bought at retail both had seals cut. These are not new and probably refurbished models passed off as new.

So your experiences are consistent with what I experienced.

  • they are back in stock

  • +1

The phones from the store are red bull branded and are locked. These will come sealed, actually you will see two seals. The inner most one has been cut, but then covered with a second seal which is a HTC seal.

The ones online are unlocked and unbranded. The original seal comes cut, then sealed with a piece of sticky tape.
