          Thanks for agreeing buddy

      • +12

You can't define a term with that term.
Your 'definition' is basically - a woman is anyone who thinks they are a woman.
        Yes, but what is that?

          • +19

@rightguy: Your "answer" is laughably flawed.

Christians can be easily defined without using the word "Christian" or derivatives thereof - eg "followers of the religion that believes in the teachings of Jesus".

And your attempt to redefine your original "woman" definition doesn't stand up to the slightest scrutiny in the context of current woke views. "Women" now apparently don't need feminine traits, nor do they need to "an internalized concept of themselves belonging to the female gender".

Oh and to save you some breath - IDGAF if someone born with a wang wants to pretend they were born with a minge. Doesn't affect me, so meh. But at the end of the day, they're pretending. It's nonsense to say you are a woman if you were born XY, and it's nonsense to say you're a man if you were born XX.

          • @rightguy: Then what are feminine traits? Do any men have those traits?

      • +8

You can't give the definition of what a woman is using the word woman in your definition.

      • +2

so does a woman have a dick or not?

        • +2

No, no they do not. Ownership of a dick is reserved for blokes.

          • +7

@combatant: Depends. Some women own dicks. They're not attached to them, but they definitely own them.

Gotta go. I need to get the dishes done before my wife gets home.

          • -1

@combatant: Unaware of hermaphrodites are you? No surprise there. Know anything at all about trans people? How about the part chemical, genetic, chromosomic and mental characteristics play in "gender"? Are there overlaps in those areas between men and women - ie is there a spectrum - or is it all black and white (eg XX female, XY male etc)? All rhetorical questions because It's obvious that you know sfa about what is a complex topic, and have even less appreciation of human nuance.

            • @Igaf: Are you still carrying on responding to people's comments with your useless diatribe in this deal? Sometimes comments are made in jest and are not serious. It's time to move on.

I am educated on the topic but it doesn't change my personal view that gender is tied to sex - male or female - so yes, in my eyes it is black or white. Trans people can portray themselves as whatever they want and I'll respect them for who they are, I really don't give two hoots, but it doesn't mean I or anyone else have to subscribe to their ideology.

              • -1

@combatant: Jest? Your votes give you away pal, although you probably thought no-one would notice eh? You obviously didn't move on.

I am educated on the topic but it doesn't change my personal view that gender is tied to sex - male or female - so yes, in my eyes it is black or white.

Clearly you aren't, as your other comments, votes and the statement above demonstrates clearly. The alternative is that your "education" comes from similarly ignorant people, or you think your uninformed opinion trumps medical expertise (or "ideology" as you know it). The latter as we know is a common trait of a particular demographic.

                • @Igaf: Oh get off your high horse. I have no problem with my comments or votes 'giving me away' as you call it. I'm not hiding from anything. Also, I had moved on but you responded to my comment days after it was made…..

I have read the journal articles, watched seminars etc. and formed my own views.

You can subscribe to the 'pro-trans medical expertise' if you like. I do not, and I know plenty of people in the medical profession who do not. I am entitled to my views and you to yours.

                  • -1

@combatant: Yes, sorry, it's evident to me now that you've moved on. Do your views change or expire after two days?

I don't subscribe to anything "pro-trans". Unlike you I recognise that others have FAR better knowledge, experience, and expertise - and hence judgement. I also understand that trans people are individuals, each with their own circumstances, not some amorphous group which should be pilloried because they are different Frankly I don't give a fig about your uninformed beliefs, I'm simply pointing out that they're based on your own ideological ignorance and lack of understanding/empathy. If you bothered to read up on the actual science you will find that it shows clearly that there can be/are significant chemical, genetic, chromosomic and obviously mental overlaps between the sexes.

Not that this has anything at all to do with the deal and the hyperbolic outage of primarily juvenile right wing reactionaries to it, but how other people identify and why is not my business, nor is it yours. Some years ago I worked with a scientist who decided late-ish in life to live and work as a woman. Afaik she was treated with respect by all who knew her previously as a male colleague. A tiny number of distant onlookers with particular arrogant "beliefs" would no doubt have judged her without knowing anything about her or her reasons for taking what was obviously a difficult and brave decision to be herself. Are they entitled to that view because they "believe" gender is black and white and shouldn't be crossed? I think not.

                    • @Igaf: OMFG! Look back at your comments and you'll see that it was you who started the discussion about trans people.

You reduce yourself to putting people down on the basis that in your opinion their views are 'uninformed', when in reality they may well be just as well informed as you but have considered other resources, and hold views that do not align with yours

People are entitled to hold different views and not be persecuted for them. As I said, I don't give two hoots if a person is trans, they are a person and I treat them with empathy and respect, but it doesn't mean I have to like or agree with their personal decisions. Similarly I am not religious and do not believe in God or any other 'higher being', but I don't look down on anyone who follows a religion as that is totally their choice.

You appear to be trying to paint yourself as morally superior and more intelligent/informed which quite frankly comes across as hostile and argumentative rather than engaging in civil discussion. Looking at your comment history this seems to be your typical modus operandi so I am doubtful anything will change. Please don't respond, I will not be engaging any further with someone who can not respect a difference of opinions.

                      • -1

@combatant: OMFG! WTF? HS! Civil discussion? Is that how you portray your comments and upvotes on this deal? Hilarious. We can't do much about your views or your hyperbolic response to a simple and easily understood business promotion, but we can - and I did - question the basis for them (as obvious as it was from your comments and votes on this deal). Views based primarily on self-inflicted ignorance and ideology (left, or in your case right) don't deserve respect. I responded to one of your ignorant one liners which was aimed at appealing to possibly even less-uniformed people My comment wasn't about trans issues but about your obviously simplistic, outdated, and in your own words "black and white" views on what constitutes sex/gender. Your ignorance could be easily fixed by reading some of the science, and/or opening your mind. Your attitudes are well exposed, as are the reasons for them. Clear enough?

                        • @Igaf: You certainly like to twist things to suit your narrative. I'm comfortable with my attitudes so please feel free to call me ignorant, uninformed or what ever you like, I really don't mind. I'm happy to agree to disagree. Hope you have a good day. Adieu.

                          • -1

@combatant: Twist what? Your upvotes of clearly ignorant and juvenile, sexist comments and attitudes? You joined the bandwagon of rw, juvenile, sexist and ignorant comments on this deal because you agreed with them, and probably because you found a place which enabled you to "be yourself", If you're "comfortable" with your views then own them, but don't expect respect for them.

                            • @Igaf: Ramble ramble ramble. I'm done. Adieu.

                              • -1

@combatant: Run out of negs did you? You were done long ago. Instead of hiding on this website you ought to try discussing your blinkered views with adults, preferably including educated, well-balanced women.

                                • @Igaf: You don't give up do you. That's okay, keep rambling.

                                  • -1

@combatant: An 'I've moved on' and two adieus yet you're still here? Your combatant nature coming through perhaps? Your time would be better spent consulting reliable online science sources and talking to your mum and/or female work colleagues to get some perspective.

                                    • @Igaf: Call it a social experiment. I'm trying to see how long you'll keep carrying on with your egotistical drivel and you keep delivering.

                                      • -1

@combatant: Thanks, always happy to help someone struggling with balance, reality and scientific information assimilation issues. What's the record for your 'social experiments'? Pretty low I expect?

While you're here, perhaps you can help me out. Your comment below says a woman is an adult female. What makes a female in your informed opinion?

                                        • @Igaf: 'struggling with balance, reality and scientific information assimilation issues' - oh you've made my day. Don't be so quick to judge without knowing someone's background, qualifications and/or occupation (which no I am not going to publicly divulge).

If you want to continue our lovely discussion perhaps you can start a private conversation with me rather than clogging up this thread.

To answer your question, a human female is a person of the sex that is typically capable of bearing young (unfortunately some females are unable to do so for medical reasons). By extension of this, a woman is an adult human female and a girl is a female who has not reached adulthood.

                                          • -1

@combatant: This thread was clogged with garbage long ago. No need to be concerned about that.

Sorry I'm slow. So how is sex determined, ie how does one become a member of that tribe? Genitals? Chromosomes? Menstruation, as some w.nkers opined on social media?

                                            • @Igaf: Oh come on, now you're just playing dumb. Sex determination in mammals is chromosomal. Yes there can be chromosomal abnormalities, but this is basic biology and there are plenty of scientific sources to back this up - but you already know that.

                                              • -1

@combatant: Be specific. Female/male sex is chromosomally what?

Take your time, google can assist further and there is nothing wrong with using it to learn, if not understand.
                                                Ain't learning fun?
How's your black and white opinion going?

                                                • @Igaf: I'll let you do your own research if you're not sure. One of my degrees taught me plenty about all this stuff.

My opinions are doing just fine, thanks for asking.

                                                  • -1

@combatant: 'Plenty' means something different in your circles presumably?

Go on, be brave have a dip at the chromosome question. Sure the answer is unpalatable to your rw persona, and obviously incompatible with your black and white views, but surely someone with such strong convictions isn't afraid to acknowledge that nuance is actually a dominant feature of the real world? Or didn't your degrees teach you that?

                                                    • @Igaf: You sound like such a delight. I wish we were friends.

I've clocked off for the day, so go on, enlighten me with your wisdom.

                                                      • -1

@combatant: Not so confident of your 'plentiful teachings' or simply don't want to have words against your nic acknowledging the chromosome anomaly? Yet it was all so simple when you dropped that one liner below to your juvenile Ozbargain audience wasn't it?

                                                        • @Igaf: No, just growing bored. At no point did I deny the existence of chromosome anomalies, in fact I pointed it out. But an anomaly is just that, something outside of what is expected, it is not standard. So while they exist they are not representative of the majority of the population.

It was and still is as simple as my one liner below and I think you'd find the majority of people would agree with my assessment. Many people are now reluctant to convey their feelings on this though out of fear of being labelled a 'transphobe' or accused of not being 'inclusive'. This results in people begrudgingly towing the line in public of the narrative currently being pushed.

This will be the last I'll post in this thread, but if you genuinely want to carry on the discussion please feel free start a private conversation with me.

                                                          • -1

@combatant: Can't put my finger on why, but Darwin's comment that ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge comes to mind about many comments this thread.

Exceptions and nuance can shake beliefs to the core when ideological blindness isn't ascendant, which is why particular demographics prefer everything bundled into simple packages, preferably without context. Much like your notion of this deal being discriminatory enough to warrant hyperbolic condemnation. Had you been trained adequately in critical thinking and parked your own ideology you MAY (only may) have wondered what those anomalies (which aren't confined to chromosomes, as your teaching no doubt told you /s) say about the binary definitions of sex/gender you cling to. That's by the by as far as your belief that this deal is discriminatory in any significant sense. In black and white that's a puerile notion.

      • +10

It's alright let me get the correct definition for you - a woman is an adult human female.

      • -6

Yeah. Like being a nurse isn’t a dangerous dirty job.

        • +19

Nice cherry-picked example. Alert me when bricklayers, plumbers, garbage collectors, mechanics, miners, oil rig operators, farmers, fishermen, timber logging workers, soldiers, pilots, etc etc etc have anything close to 50% female representation and then we can talk about the mythical pay gap that doesn't exist.

@Gnostikos: I love watching the marxist utopia crash and burn. What those fools don't realise, is they've also been working hard to stunt the growth into adulthood of society… and youth naturally lean to toward chaos, disobedience, perpetually locking them into the rebellious teenager stage. Thus effectively destroying their own hold on peoples minds as they search for anything to argue about to rebel against their narrative - only they find out that narrative REALLY IS false. Love it.

I love watching the marxist utopia

Where's that? Up in space? Can't describe anywhere around here like that.

          • +1

@Gnostikos: Geez if some women go into those jobs, WorkCover fees are going through the roof coz of the injuries.

Then the companies will still need to hire more people, which means more expenses and resulting in more fees lol.

          • @Gnostikos: So why should these jobs be better paid than female dominated ones that require tertiary education? Most of the jobs could be on strike fir quite some time without seriously affecting people. Nurses and Aged Cate do this and people die. What you are doing is pointing out how backward this all is.

            • +3

@try2bhelpful: What is preventing women from entering the male-dominated careers? If they're undertaking a tertiary education, why not choose something like engineering? The STEM field does not discriminate, everyone is free to pursue a career in that. Heck, it is easier for women to find a job in STEM than men due to diversity hires and meeting quotas of 50/50 gender.

But back to your initial point on the gender wage gap: it does not exist when you compare people working in the same job with same hours, with the same level of experience and skills. Compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges.

If the gender wage gap did exist, then please explain, why, in our capitalist society, do we not hire more women if we can get away with paying them less than their male counterparts for the same job/output?

              • -4

@lafriel: Do some Googling. Even from graduate levels the males tend to get better pay than the females. Women shouldn’t have to do STEM subjects to get a decent wage. In fact there are lots of female dominated fields that are a lot more important than male dominated ones, and yet they are still paid more poorly. It isn’t comparing apples to orange; people should be paid commensurate with the importance of their work and this just isn’t happening. Even when you have a female dominated field the males are often moved into higher positions than the females.

Don’t talk to me about STEM, I went down that path. I did the male dominated career path. I didn’t have to deal with being poorly paid whilst dealing with other people’s bodily fluids and keeping them alive. I took the male path instead which meant decent pay and work that, from a society perspective, wasn’t that critical.

I don’t expect you guys to understand anymore than the people who booted my mother out of her job in the public service when she got married would understand. It is too deeply ingrained that this is what women should do and should accept. If they want to be mothers they have to accept they will do the vast majority of the child raising. That they should do the housework. They have to defer to their partners career. Me, I never had children, and I gut a man who doesn’t have a fragile ego, so my career and his went in tandem. In fact, in the end, I was paid considerably more than him.

Women are expected to “police” men’s behaviour. If they get raped it is their own fault because they shouldn’t have put themselves in that position. There are people here who even object to active consent; that a question should be asked and an informed, enthusiastic, agreement obtained. If women are victims of DV then the question is what did they do to provoke him. That she has to stay for the good of the children. Conversely, it is why didn’t she leave even though she has no money and nowhere to go. Also victims of DV have often had their confidence shattered and their self worth degraded by the constant abuse.

Mostly I’m just weary of the bullshit. I’ve waded through it most if my life and, although we are getting further along, there is still a lot of resistance. I’m sick of people telling me I haven’t experienced things because they never “see” it. I’m sick if the gaslighting I’m nit making this up and I haven’t revealed more than a small part of it.

Why are so many of you guys frightened of women improving their lot in life. Are you concerned that the next generation of women, if the gender percentages swap, will treat men like women are being treated now?

                • @try2bhelpful: A quick few questions if you don't mind.
                  - Are you paid any less than your male coworkers in the same position?
                  - Do you think a childcare worker should be paid the same as a soldier?

Don't get me wrong though, nurses and healthcare staff in general should 100% be paid more for the shit they go through day in day out; but please try to understand that this is not a gender problem, it is an industry problem (and also a media problem that portrays nurses on strike as evil; you can thank Murdoch for that).

                  • +2

@lafriel: For what it's worth, a full time entry level nurse gets paid > $75k in Australia, and in the upper ranks they get over $100k. It's not exactly bad money.

@try2bhelpful: t2bh, it is clear from your bitter narrative that harps back decades that you are stuck in the past. Society and the relevant arguments have long since moved on; yet you still have a chip on your shoulder because your 'mother got booted out of the public service when she got married'. When was that? 40 years ago? 50 years ago? Sheesh, why not regale us all with a lengthy yarn about how women were treated in England in the 1600s? Such things are sure to evoke sympathy within us with respect to your current 'plight' …

        • Male and Female nurses are paid the same amount for the same hours worked in the same job.

          Them: Yes.
Me: And gender reassignment surgery is a real thing?
          Them: Of course!
Me: So if you pay for that surgery, how many options do you get?
          Them: "…………….."

im all for supporting the matildas but these woke companies can eat shit

    • +6

Yes. I too, also feel that woke virtue-signalling corporations can gobble down a chunky, voluminous turd. I'm strongly in favour for the "redistribution of scatological assets".

Thinking Rashays is woke because they're using the matildas for a bit of publicity? It's not like the matildas are a team of trans players or some shit like that. Don't forget the pretty anti-woke stuff Rami (owner of Rashays) did through covid restrictions too - like not forcing employees to police mask mandates (to the point he was arrested for it), not playing by the region by region lockdown rules in NSW (all company owned stores were staying closed until all of NSW was out of lockdown) and after the covid restrictions ended having a special deal where everyone at every Rashays (can't recall if this was just NSW?) on a certain night ate free, and he simply suggested that people take the money they would have spent at his restaurant that night and instead spend it elsewhere, to help other restaurants that didn't have the financial security he and his restraurants had.

      • +5

I wouldn't call it woke but I would say it's poorly thought out. Why not just have it as a buy one main get one free, encourage people to either go out with a date or overeat.

    • +2

To be fair probably not much different than the food they serve lol

    • +2

Lol, JV and co also think that this fits the definition of woke. Lmfao.

Sex discrimination is not a deal.
