Can I change my age by deed poll?

    • +3

Just call and mention discrimination etc :)

    • +1

Maybe you could be born again. LOL

I got this when I was 17 and now they still bug me with letters saying to renew my membership.

    • +2

Why are people negging this comment. I did the same and now have the same, years on.

      • +1

I signed up for this at UNSW o-week, membership for one year (had no accidents so didn't use), signed up again and they spammed me payment forms.. (I am still eligible for this "offer" just they didn't give it to me for a second time)

    • Same here, they also used to call me 4 times a year to ask why I hadn't renewed, I had to tell them I already had a SEPARATE NRMA Gold membership.

      • +2

What the? you can only get gold if you have been a member for 25 consecutive years, means in no way you would be eligible for this offer, nor ever been able to get it (since its only been offered in the last 5 years or so)

So your post is a load of bullcrap.

        • Could have taken on parents account?

    • +2

They offered me a $20 Rebel gift voucher to renew last year, still declined (I don't even drive).

  • +1

Used it twice so far… one tow truck.

2 of my 4 callouts in 2 months, this ain't goinna work.

    • +2

Maybe you should put the money you are saving towards new wheels LOL.

I actually think this is a pretty generous offer because it's generally the 18-20 age group when you are driving older unreliable cheapo cars. My first car used to overheat annd gush steam, and sometimes I had to start it by putting petrol straight into the carbie. What a bomb LOL, and looking back wouldn't have it any other way.

My first car when I was 17, a VK Holden, the local NRMA man and I were on a first name terms :)

        • +10

I wouldn't expect any less with your username :)

I think the real problem these days is that the majority of people wouldn't know how to do that, or even know what a carbie is. The number of friends I've had to 'help' change a tire is pretty ridiculous, I can't imagine how they'd fair if something went wrong in the engine bay.

      • one of the two I locked my keys inside…

the other was injector orings blew out and leaked fuel lol.

  • I'm too old, but with my over 300,000k 1998 Corolla, I think my NRMA membership is well worth the hundred bucks a year I pay. It's usually the quickest way to get to your exam or work or whatever if the car isn't starting.

Change it to age 18-50, then I might consider it.

  • RACQ has had Free2Go fo years….

    • Yeah. But NRMA is available in other regions that RACQ is not.

  • They're saying I'm not 16 even though I kinda am…

    • +2

How can you be "kinda 16"?

      • +13

        Mental age vs. Biological age.

        • +1

Good thing that's not the standard.. else I'd come pretty close to being jail-bait. =)

      • +1

He/she was born on a leap day and is only 4 years old.

  • Are their "mechanics" any better these days? Years ago someone broke down and NRMA guy comes out. Admits if it's not a flat battery, keys locked in, or run out of fuel, there's not much else they can help with - and they just call a tow truck!?

    • Well there's not much they can really do on a street.. you can't really carry around a mobile workshop in a stationwagon.

      • These guys can http://www.lubemobile.com.au/car-repairs.html They should be able to escalate to a similar service/vehicle at least.

        • Yeah but that's by appointment to your driveway - which is in effect is space for working with.
          NRMA roadside assistance - paramedics
NRMA workshop - hospital for your car
Lube mobile - Visit your home doctor

        • +2

Paramedics do A LOT more than that on the side of a road.

        • +1

          ..Alright
NRMA roadside assistance - first aid?

  • So it's pretty much the same today?

  • What's the best deal for 20-25 year olds? I was looking at getting roadside assistance this week but was wondering whether I could save any on the $150. I wish it was free for a year! It sucks being younger than 25 but older than 20. Still are classified as a young driver by all insurance companies yet don't qualify for promotions like this.

    • Coles insurance offer roadside assist for $6 extra a month on your premiums includes unlimited call outs and towing until 15kms radius.

I was doing this but will now cancel as I qualify for this deal.

      • Coles the supermarket?

Does the trolley collector guy drive out to breakdowns on his tractor?

        • They contract the jobs out to two providers.

  • 15k towing radius is pretty ordinary, even in Sydney 15k wont get you far, let alone if you travel outside the town or city limits.

They are all generally serviced by NRMA anyways via contract.
