Have you heard he's been rorting taxpayers money from hard workers like you and me. And how he complained about Aussies buying from internet and not buying from his stores, lobbied for import GST even for low value items?
He's completely anti the values of OzBargain.

"The AMD Ryzen 3 7320U is a mobile processor for cheap laptops of the Mendocino series. It integrates four older Zen 2 cores"
    Love AMD's renaming OLD CPU's as 7000 series.. they've done that with Ryzen 5 7000 series being Zen3 CPU's
    https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Ryzen-3-7320U-Processor-Be…

    For $499 .. i guess Zen2 is good enough

    Review here
    https://au.pcmag.com/laptops/99169/acer-aspire-3-a315-24p

This states its a 1080P IPS screen .. if so then that's great
    https://laptopmedia.com/au/review/acer-aspire-3-a315-24p-rev…

"What we are really happy about is the fact there is only one display option – a 1080p IPS unit. This kills almost every competition in its price range."

    • would be the perfect school BYOD laptop if it was 14" and under 1.4 KG

Despite it being zen 2, the Mendocino igpu is pretty neat. The 2CU within it performs like an overclocked desktop vega 3 despite being only 15w, so you can play things like GTA 5 at medium at like, 40fps at 1080p. I know that ain't much to write home about when apex and fortnite can't run that well on these things, but these things are dirt chip and should play most games that you'll usually play when you're on the road or in a library.

      https://www.msi.com/blog/understand-how-amd-name-their-mobile-cpu

      7320U

      • 7 = 2023
      • 3 = Ryzen 3
      • 2 = Zen 2
      • 0 = Lower model within segment
      • U = 15-28W

this somehow makes sense and not at the same time

      • Wow is that really the naming convention?

        • Only apply to 7series or later if you look at 4500u/5600u it goes banana.

  • Hmm the yoga slim is 11th gen intel but still a thousand dollar?

    • Its a little expensive, I bought HP 12 gen i7 with same specs for <$900 a few months ago

      • Thats what i thought as well. Link to the hp?

      NO !
Their usual prices are pathetic, but their sale prices are 'sometimes' good

  • Aspire 7 is $888 at Bing Lee.
$6 delivery to Melbourne as well.

  • Note that 7320U is Ryzen 3000.

  • Looks good

Ram is soldered and not upgradable…

  • Been looking for a cheaper dark laptop around $800 for a while, the Acer Aspire 3 $777 and Acer Aspire 7 $898, are these like the best out there for this price atm?

  • The Acer Aspire 7 15.6-inch i5-12450H/16GB/512GB SSD/GTX1650 4GB Gaming Laptop is 898 as well at HN and the reviews i have seen the gtx1650 get higher FPS than the RTX2050.

    • Probably better to spend the extra $50-$100 for the RTX 4050 options that come around once in a while

  • Bought this one last weekend: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-12…

Not exactly compact, but main use case is for studying, but wanted the option for gaming “just in case.

    • Nearly bought that at Bing Lee online for 998 but sold out now.

      • Was it the version with RTX3050? That was the one for 998, but the guy upsold me on the version with RTX4050 instead.

I opened it up and there's plenty of room for minor expansions. Extra DIMM, NVME and 2.5" SSD slots.

        • No definitely the one with 4050 I checked with binglee there was a $100 off ebay code at the time. It seems the battery life is poor have you checked usage in hours of battery life yet. I looked at it in Harvey last Sunday the salesman said they have a sticker on one of the screws to void warranty if removed, but they can add 16gb ddr5 for a bit over 300 omg lol.

          • +1

@paulaus: Battery life is def not great, i think I was running it unplugged (not gaming) for ~2 hours (maybe a bit more) and it dropped to about 30%.

Didn't see any void stickers on the case, either way I still would have opened it up.

  • Can the Acer plug into a type c dock for charging and display?

    • Mine came with a 230W power brick, it can charge via the USB C, but under load (i.e. if I was gaming) I doubt it will keep it powered up.

Also have a monitor running out of USB C, but not simultaneously.

  • Always use macbook before so i want to ask

    -is windows licensed included?
-is ma powerpoint word etc included or only available for subscription instead of i off payment?

    Thanks

    • +1

Yes Windows Home is installed and licence is included.
Microsoft Office isn't included. A Subscription for 1 user is $109 per year. You can also buy MS Office Home and Business outright for about $250

Thanks OP. Managed to grab the last aspire 3 at Rothwell which they didn't know they had because it was an unopened return and wasn't where it should have been in the back. My Dad is happy with the upgrade so far.

  • So the R3-7320U or the i7-8650 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/794587

    • With that much RAM, the i7

      • +1

Oh yeh …. I didn't even notice that part.

Yeh that wins hands down then

        • But it's only 8th gen CPU and the comments suggest they have battery swelling issues…
