    i7 32gig for 450! Any catch?

    • 2400MHz RAM - you won't be able to re-use for faster processor.

      • Ah cool cheers

      • What does it mean? Thanks!

        • +5

It is a great deal to have 32GB RAM. But you won't be able to move the RAM to a newer laptop down the road.

    • +4

This particular model had a bit of a tendency to have swelling batteries

      • Even if you reapalce it?? Is it like some sort of design issue?? Thanks.

        • +2

I'm pretty sure it's a design flaw in the charging circuit, as it didn't appear in the 7470 or 7400. The xx80/xx90 I have seen alot of these with bulging batteries, to the point where the whole top cover is bent up about 3-4mm

      • +4

I bought one of these refurbed a while back and the battery quickly became swollen enough that the case was unable to stay clipped together. I bought a replacement battery which solved the problem, albeit probably only until this one starts to swell again in a couple of years.

        • What is the going rate for a battery, please?

          • +2

@HiDave: $40-50 depending on the capacity. There are two battery types that come with this model. They are electrically incompatible so make sure you check what one you have in the laptop before buying.

    • +6

Other than the fact that it's an 8th gen i7 which is quite old tech now, hence the price. Even a 12th gen i3 will be faster (and use less power)

  • +9

    The T480S is a solid deal @ $359

    • +3

Can vouch for this laptop from this seller. Excellent condition and brilliant laptop.

    • Yep that's a good laptop

    • +1

Why prefer i5 to i7, I need an update on my perspective to these numbers and letters.

    • +6

T480s is the legend for the 8th gen. I upgraded to 20Gb ram (4gb on board+16gb I bought) and wifi 6 then bloody awesome. 8th gen i5 is better than i7 due to thermal bottleneck.

      • That's quite the information. Thank you. It is apparently OOS now.

  • +10

Overheating battery swelling e-junk. Price is about right.

    • +6

Not sure why this isn't being upvoted, the 7480/7490 are notorious for this

    • Sounds like another one to skip

This is not really that cheap. Unless you're super tight in budget otherwise, spend a few hundred dollars more for a better system with warranty. This is at least 3 years old machine. Personally, I wouldn't spend over $400 for a second hand machine unless it's a 3year old apple Mac.

  • Can the battery last for 1 hour?

  • +2

They're eBay store is worth a look.

    I just picked up a HP ELITE BOOK G5 with 16gb, i7-8550u, 256gb NVMe 15.6inch touch screen, RX540 with W11pro for $382.49 after coupons.

    • What's the screen nits and color gamut?

      • Didn't say on the listing. Will have to wait and find out :)

    • +1

Think you nabbed the only HP 850 G5!

      • +1

Ye that's why I couldn't post it. Only 1 available. Would have been happy with a non touch as I'd never use it.

        • If you install Microsoft Mahjong onto it the touchscreen is awesome for that, other than that game i've never used the touchscreen on a laptop.

  • Hmm how easy is it to change the SSDs on these?

  • +2

Thats overpriced imo….agreeing with one of the comment above - better off spending a fraction more for something brand new and up to date.

Why buy a 2nd hand old laptop with a 6 yeas old cpu?

    • +1

What's a good new laptop with similar (or less) size and weight with 32GB of RAM?

    • +2

Yeah it is still a good deal and the condition is excellent (which I would pay more for) I got one and it was like new, a new one would be $1000+ and no difference for non-gaming. Perfect for a side device or non-gaming.

Also older CPU means little anymore, hardware plateaued, my desktop CPU is a 6 year old i7-7700K, I could buy a top of the line from this year and its like 20% faster, 120 fps instead of 100fps, whoopee, and not even that because that is theoretical benchmarks and games are more GPU depended.

    Bought a t480s thanks op

  • T480s OOS

  • Anyone have the monitor for comment?

  • If it was at least ~40cm screen for productivity - compared to attached 4K 67-81cm Dell/Samsung for desktop or laptop ;)
PS. Metricifaction was introduced 1799 & the US is still pushing archaic measures after 224y :(

  • +1

    Damnit, bought a T470S for $330 two days ago…

  • +1

    Lost me at 14inch

    • +5

what? 14inch is the best cut off point for screen size and portability. I find 15.6 screens too large to carry

      • +2

14 inch 1080p is the absolute sweet spot for laptop screen size and portability.

      • +1

If you want portability buy a IBM ThinkPad pad or better a steam deck.

    • Agree. With slimmer bezels 40cm (15.6") screen is the min size for full-size keyboard (16-17" better).
Also better for productivity, multitasking, coding, graphic design, or video editing, reduce eye strain if≥1K pixels, improved ergonomics, & extendability (eg. Acer Nitro 5 with extra SSD, M.2 & replaceable RAM to 64GB, easy fits the backpack.

The ergonomic principle is Carry 1ce <1h, Use many times >8h comfortably (~ write 1nce effectively, read many times faster).

  • fantastic value!

I got Dell Latitude 7490 on hand this morning.
    Really love it.
    Everything is excellent.
Obviously, the seller sprayed perfume on the laptop.
    It smells so good :)

    • Huh? What type of perfume?!

  • I am very surprised that OP's post said it is non touch screen

14" FHD Display Non Touch Screen with 1920x1080 resolution

but the truth is I found the laptop screen is touch screen!!

just place another order to buy 2nd dell 7490

    • +1

Dell Latitude 7490 has both touch and non touch models.

    • Yup i can second that and the condition is like brand new with battery lasted 4.5 hours

  • Do you guys think battery 75 percent is fine?

  • So the general consensus seems to be to add the cost of a new battery to the Latitude 7490? Still a good buy considering this?
