I like the look of this, and the idea of having one, but simply no space on my benchtop.

    • Same, it must be super easy cooking on one of this. But limited bench space. Otherwise I would get one for that price.

Most of these commercial units take ages to heat up as they as supposed to be left on all day. Just something to consider before buying. You'll also need a 15 amp outlet to run this

  • +10

Make sure you have a 15amp outlet

It has a 10A plug, so it's probably not 3000W

      • +5

If its a 10A plug then legally can't be 3000w. The images also show 2200w, aka 10A. So seems to be some interesting marketing going on here.

        • There are a lot of 3000w grill plates on google that look exactly like this one that say they need a 15A power socket so I think it probably does actually need a 15A socket. Like this one- https://www.myer.com.au/p/5-star-chef-3000w-electric-griddle…

          • @videoman: Agreed, they all come out of the same factory, but this one doesn't say what plug it needs, but does claim 2200w on the 5th picture, so when in doubt….. See some comments below, they found that model number and it has a 10a plug.

This is the normal price after doing a google search.

    • You are right. It looks like are reduced across the board.

    3000W, but image shows 240V 2200W

  • Looks like one of those George Foreman grills.

The Tefal is very good at stewing meat. Yuk. Nothing beats those 1970's vertical grills for a good char.

    • Vertical Grills’re fantastic

  • These small appliances are always so tempting. Lucky for me as I am trying to lower my electricity usage while my gas is on a flat rate tariff. I even use my post to boil water now 🤣🤣

Now I have to figure out how to make toast on stove……

There is also the AC but that has no chance as wife want the apartment temp always regulated….

      • Thanks, I now use the toast function of cuisinart steam oven. Got suck into it when I was able to stack Chadder cash back on to BigW sale 6 months ago……

The mentioned stove toaster don't seem ideal for indoor use as it can trigger fire alarm, I did find online that you can use grill pan to make toast on stove. Issue now is finding a cheap and good grill pan.

Not a griddle / cooktop. This is a grill. A griddle is a flattop.

    • ?

The post is for 2 separate products. One is flat, the other is not.

  • The Tefal doesn't have an adjustable height control, so it may squash sandwiches etc. and can't be used for open sandwiches. Most grills like this (that aren't a sandwich press) have the same issue, so I'm guessing I must be in the minority in considering it a pain.

    • no, it’s not that minority think no height adjustment is a pain, more presses are getting height adjustment but this one isn’t there yet, i have a breville perfect press, it has spring so weight of lid doesn’t squash breads, problem is it’s $170, small.

      • Yeah, not many height adjustable presses. The Breville Smart grill has adjustability. And obviously smaller sandwich presses do, but they don't have much grilling ability especially interchangeable plates or the ability to flip it open like a BBQ.

    • I have one of these and it isn't that big an issue.

If you are making one single toasted sandwich, yeah it will flatten it. If you are making more its fine.

There is a simple trick though. Silicon egg rings. I just chuck one of those on and it keeps it a fixed height.

The non stick works well enough that open sandwiches work fine as well. I even use it to reheat pizza, just close the lid straight onto it and the cheese still doesn't stick. comes out great.

  • This is a fairly generic and common design shared by many brands.

  • how is Thermomate compared to Devanti… thats uaually at 183$
