    Who still buys ink?

    • +3

      Do you pirate yours?

  • +2

    Get a Laser or EcoTank.

    • +1

      EcoTank inks are also reduced.

  • +11

Printer ink is actually a scam considering the profit margin they make and what little you actually get

    • +3

Unless you get an Eco Tank.

    • -5

The OP is just posting an ink deal. Love how Ozbargain became a discussion about moral compass of companies and how they have ripped us off for years with printer ink. Next time there is a shaving cartridge deal, I expect to see you comment plz..

      • +1

I for one are very thankful that these people have discussed this here. I was just about to buy this ink, but now I have been a little more educated about printer options, I now know that eco tank and laser printers are not only better for my finances in the long run, but more importantly the environment.
So next time keep your unhelpful criticisms to yourself.

    5% cheaper at Officeworks.

    • +5

Correct. People can price beat at Officeworks.

Get a Brother Toner Printer, buy toner cartridges from Amazon every 5 years for $15 b/w, $50 colour.

My Brother b/w printer was $98 delivered and I'm on my first bought cartridge after 4 years.

    • How many pages are printed?

      • +6

The $13 cartridge was rated for 2600 pages, the original included toner was 900 pages.

I don't think it gets quite that many, hard to tell how many I printed between 4 people in 4.5 years.

Inflation has gone up a bit, the Brother HL-L2305 was $98 and more like $159 now.

Edit: Just found the HL-L2305 2600 page toner for $13.50.

Brother Colour HL-L3230CDW Printer for $279.

This isn’t multi functional , most households/businesses will need scan/copy functions as well

Wouldn’t settle on a printer alone - good deal if someone wants just printer

Multi functional color laser printers are around $450 atm

          • @[Deactivated]: We just scan using our phones and can print directly. Scanners and document feeders only become really useful when they are duplex (not cheap). For only occasional use, we chose to save the money and space.

        • Thank you. Bookmarked comment

        • +1

can't believe i'm only just finding out about toner printers vs regular inkjet. thank you. saved for later.

        • Also, 2300 colour pages for the HL-L3230CDW is $48, these will generally last you as long as you need to use it given the longevity of laser.

With inkjet you do get a nicer print, but the real cost is significantly greater per page than estimated if you don't use it very frequently. In order to stop the printer from getting clogged with the ink it must routinely pull ink out to keep it wet. With normal usage, inkjet printers get only a fraction of pages as what is technically available when you open the cartridges.

Some people who live close enough to an Officeworks, get a laser for black & white, with their limited colour printing done at the store. Unless you are printing photo quality images, very frequently, it doesn't make sense to have a personal colour inkjet printer. If black/white can cover you, a laser printer is a must.

I will get a colour laser when one is on sale, as I don't need to print colour but with my 5 years experience using a Brother B/W Laser Printer I wouldn't mind having the colour knowing how extremely cheap and long lasting the toner is.

          • @Jimbuscus: Correct me if I'm wrong, but that set includes black as well, doesn't it? So you don't need to buy an additional toner for B&W printing

            • +1

@RichardMelbourne: They are two different printer sets, the B/W is for the cheaper B/W laser printer.

        • +1

I have the same Brother printer and same toner from Amazon too and can confirm this.

It's the first printer I have used in almost 30 years where I didn't feel I got scammed.

    • Depends on the model, i got a brother printer with large ink cartridges and its $145 to replace all with original https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/brother-lc… cartidges or $~89 for copies from inkstation.

      • +2

Will the ink cartridges last half a decade, toner doesn't dry out.

        • +1

          This 100%

My Brother colour laser still had the OEM colour toners in it for about 5 years before my wife starting printing heaps of colour stuff for uni. The toners I used to replace them were the ones I bought at the same time as the printer and some are still in it today - 9 years after I bought the printer

Not only is ink horribly expensive, you have to deal with spoilage too

  • $90 for my canon printer at JB hi-fi or $27 for generic ink from Amazon 🤔

  • -1

Still haven't opened it from previous deal

  • Not bad considering my local library charges 25 cents a page now. They must be making a killing off printing!

    • 30c in Lakes Entrance

      • .20 at my local library

  • 40% off Epson 212XL is still ~$7 more than generic

    Thank you Scrooge McDeal

  • 40% off "liquid gold". Nice ;p

  • +2

Of course they don't even sell the expensive photo printer dye/pigment. The most expensive thing per square meter in my house is my drawer full of printer ink tanks. If there was a fire that is what I would save first.

    • $200-$300 a piece?

  • thanks OP.. bought 2.

psst.. stacked perks voucher 10 off on min 50 👍

  • Anyone else having trouble checking out? When I click through to payment it boots me back to the cart.

  • +1

FWIW, Amazon seems to be matching prices on available items from the JB Hi-Fi sale. Free delivery sweetens the deal.

Ink at Bigw for the single colours = $22 or on ebay….. $2. Buying genuine is for losers and grandmas. Don't do it.
My colour Brother printer toner is $120 each x 4 ($480 in total) at Office works….. or non genuine for $57 for all 4 (actually got it for $48 due to Ebay offering 15% off)
If ebay can sell it for 1/10th the price and it includes approx $12 of shipping, how much do you think it costs Canon / Hp ets to make millions of these? Probably $5 each.
I can't support these company who are raping our wallets.

  • Inkjet printers and ink have been the most brazen scam in the IT world for several years now.

Do yourself a favour and switch to a Laser printer.

    Highly recommend Brother one.
