  • Good speakers

      I would say Obama was a good speaker but Luther King was better. HTH.

      • -4

        And yet one was killed for it and the other got to be president of the world. I guess it pays to have the friends?

        Speakers look good but like with all speaker deals, without an audition it's a bit of a gamble.

      • thanks jv. any review and on either of those two models? one seems to be no longer available?

    • +2

      Superman giving a speech is a good speaker. These speakers perform well.

  • Are these powered or passive? Hard to tell from the add

    • -3

      Speaker Amplification Type ‎Active

    • +15

      They are passive, requiring an amplifier/AV receiver to drive them

    • +3

      If they don't talk about optical/toslink, bluetooth, HDMI inputs, they'll be passive.

      They're serious looking floorstanders (I have no idea if they're good or not), the vast majority of which will be passive.

      • Or analog input.

        (I’ve got some active speakers with RCA input)

        • Some active speakers, and ALL passive speakers take analog input. The typical banana plugs on many hifi speakers are analog banana plugs, but you could just as easily build in RCA jacks if you preferred them.

          It's kind of in the definition of the components:

          Digital Source -> DAC (Digital to Analog converter) -> Amp -> Drivers.

          Powered speakers will include the DAC and Amp, but you can bypass the DAC component and drive analog direct into the amplification function.

  • What amp/dac would you need to power these?

    • No need of a separate amp if you have a receiver. Around 80W rms on 2 channels would suffice.. which is pretty every amp out there… Except some Marantz models..

    • Any home theatre receiver would be fine. If you want to get the best out of them a dedicated integrated amp would be the go - again anything modern would be fine.

      DAC performs a completely different function.

    • Would recommend a Yamaha amp.

    Ok speakers, bought mine 15 years ago. Whatever you do, don't open it to look at the speaker back and the cabinet construction as you will be disappointed.The cabinet inside looks like $20 in chipboard and speakers when you take it out look like $30 Jaycar specials. But they sound ok.

    • +2

      I totally agree. I had mine for 17 years still going in the garage system. Fair box for the asking discounted price but not outstanding

  • NS-F330 is similarly discounted down to $450 too. Single speaker only.

        Style: Yamaha NS-F330 Floorstanding SpeakerVerified Purchase

        I thought it was sold as a pair one speaker is not a lot of use can I please get someone to look into this thanks

        ~~~~~~~
        what a moron
        granted these are allegedly $2,000 speakers but I doubt yamaha sold a single set
    • Check the camels pricing for the pair option. It's been $999 forever.
  • +2
    if only I didn't live in a Townouse
    • +1
      Good clear speakers require less volume anyway. I like this type of speaker because you dont need speaker stands or to take up entertainment unit space, but my wife wouldnt go for it. We have bookshelf speakers which are decent.
  • +2
    Have these and more (7.1) with denon receiver(4k passthrough) since 4 years. Was costly but well worth it.
  • Almost pulled the trigger of 2 fs160 and the p160 pack for $899.
    Calmed down now tho.
    • I did but for $750.
      • Dunno how you managed to knock another $100 off but I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger regardless after reading more comments here.
        No I think when I finally do upgrade my 2005 purchased HTIB Yamaha speakers it will be going into the region of a couple grand to get good stuff… One day…
  • -1
    Do they have wireless rear speakers?
    • +2
      No these are just a pair of floorstanding speakers
  • According to the Amazon page they are 6 string 8 watt speakers. None of the speakers I've ever owned have had anything measured by the string, so I think I'll pass on this one.
  • +5
    If you are spending circa $500 then look at Gumtree or Marketplace for used 'better' speakers.
    • +1
      Agree 100%.
      Though I'm trying to sell my old surround set up, and man so many bots for scams these days!
    • +3
      Plenty of Sony Muteki 7.2 systems out there for sale 😉
      • Just 7.2 mate? Gotta get 7.4! Also stack em all on top of each other coz surround sound is for pussies https://gumtreeau-res.cloudinary.com/image/private/t_$_s-l400/gumtree/153d9b4f-a5ca-460f-9727-74b25f9e4de1.jpg
      • Gosh, I forgot about those monstrosities that sounded so bad.
    • Exactly
    • +1
      Yep. Could get an excellent pair of vintage hifi speakers for this money, much better if people want to listen to music with them.
    • Speaking of, would anyone be interested in a pair of JBL Studio L830 bookshelf speakers?
      I am also willing to swap for something similar.
      Today I found a set of JBL Studio 180 and a set of &W DM601 S2 for a similar price, second hand. Not much info on these but given the brand they are potentially a great deal.
  • We have a 4.5x4m media room (all domino black walls) where I am planning to put 85-100inch TV, do you recommend using these speakers for media room setup? Thanks.
    • +1
      What's your budget for the speakers and amp/receiver. And what speaker set up are you after (2, 3, 5, 7, how many subs, did you want ceiling speakers / Atmos and dtsx support)
      These speakers will be better than tv default speakers… But as someone said above if your budget is this for a pair of floor staffers check market place or gumtree.
  • +1
    Fairly old speakers from the days when there was a trend of marketing on wattage and moving as much air as possible for your money.
    I think driver technology has moved on quite a bit since, especially tweeters. But if you have an old system and just want something more spacious and loud sounding these will do.
  • How do these compare with the legendry Jaycar JV60's?
    • I guess it would be hard to compare, since everyone who bought the JV60 kit (myself included) is still rocking them and still satisfied.
        Mine have been in storage for 20 years. I hope they still work when I get around to using them again.
        It's a shame they moved away from quality to cheap stuff at high prices …
  • +2
    If you cant find a pair of these on fb marketplace for $50 you need to widen your search past 10kms….
    Ok pair of speakers but I wouldnt pay the new asking price.
  • I have a pair of floostanding Triangle Color speakers which… my son wrecked by pouring water inside the port hold so the bottom deformed
    would these be a relatively OK replacement, anyone know?
