My original phone broke a week ago, and thanks to that, I bought it quickly at a good price. Thank you very much.

  • This is tempting. Better than Pixel 7 pro?

    • +1

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11206&idPhone…

See above for an in depth comparison.

      From a quick look

      30 Ultra vs 7 Pro

      Weight of phone < Ultra
      Screen brightness < Pro
      CPU = Debatable
      Screen size < Pro (Just)
      PPI for screen < Pro
      Camera < Ultra
      Camera software < Pro
      Battery size < Pro
Battery life in use < Ultra
      Charging speed < Ultra
      Performance < Ultra
      Screen strength < Pro

      Ultra = 5 wins (Imo)
      Pro = 6 wins (Imo)

TLDR: depends what you value more in your phone

      • Does the pixel still have modem issues?
The tensor chip also using crappy Samsung 5nm which is why battery life is so bad
I think it comes down to whether you use the Google photos app a lot hehe

        • Not sure sorry !

        • Compared to all the smartphones I've owned in my life, Pixel has the weakest reception.

        • +1

I run Pro 7 dual SIM, two different carriers. Both SIM occasionally drop service simultaneously and get an ! Next to signal strength. Requires aeroplane mode cycle on/off to recover. If you don't notice it, callers can't get through to you. Plenty of similar reports from others.

This is my third Pixel Pro 7. First was replaced with factory refurb unit that had green screen fault after about 3-4: months. Green screen phone was replaced by JB with current phone, a brand new retail unit, which has faulted 3-4 times in 8 days. First unit would drop reception every 15-30 mins before it was replaced so I guess this one is better.

JB service is really good. Google support is rubbish.

I was really happy with the Pixel Pro 7 until the faults started and I had to deal with Google Device Support. As a phone manufacturer Google makes a good search engine.

    • No. Pixel supports eSim and has IP68 rating. Both the edge 30 models do not.

  • This or pixel 6a?

    • +1

meh i had $200 jbhifi vouchers, the 30 Neo looks really decent for the price.

      • +1

It is really decent. I bought it on the jbhifi deal a couple of weeks back. The only things I don't like are: no SD slot (they should have put microSD instead of the second sim), no headphone jack, no tele camera lens, no hdmi via USB-C. Battery life is great. Speed is good enough (I don't play fancy games), light weight, fingerprint scanner works well (unlike Samsung), has a really good macro camera, not too much bloatware.

  • Don't these models have Android 13 yet?

    • +5

My Edge 30 Neo got the Android 13 update already-purchased mine at JB back in July.

      • Hi there did you get the low call volume issue via bluetooth connection? Thanks!

    • They do have Android 13

      • Thanks. Just going by the deal stating they should receive Android 13 and expected to receive Android 13. I know Motorola is bad on software support but i didn't think they could possibly be a year behind.

        • Still waiting for Android 13 on three Neo phones

  • +1

Are there newer models coming out?
Don't really need one right but tossing up top get a Neo as a spare if my LG V30+ gives up or wait until that happens and see what's about then. I hate indecision…or do I?

    • It’s been replaced by the Edge 40 which is currently available. The LG V30+ was a great phone, I would personally hold onto it until you need to replace it.

    • edge 40 pro, neo, fusion and ultra are not in australia yet, and not sure if all models will be released here. Even if it does, the new models won't be half price for a while. strong option as a spare

      • Cheers, I'm more concerned about having the battery sitting unused for a couple of years or more than anything else.

  • +2

My sons phone broke and he wanted me to pick up the samsung galaxy A14 but this looks to have better specs and a better price. I'm leaning towards the 30 Neo.

    • +2

neo is better in every way except battery life but it can still last more than one day. E.g. it has an OLED 120Hz screen vs 90Hz LCD, better camera with OIS and a slightly better chip. It also has double the RAM of the A14 so is much more futureproof

  • How this phone camera like comparing to Pixel 7 or iPhone 14?

    • +1

Camera is probably not the best. Some people install GCam to make it slightly better.
So if you really need great camera buy something different.

    • +2

Worse obviously. It's 1/3rd the price of the pixel and 1/5th the price if the iPhone.

    • As others have pointed out it obviously won't be as good as a flagship. The weaknesses will derive from the sensor and the software that drives it. In focus shots with good lighting will look great, which is what sponsored reviews will be showing you, however you are likely to encounter blurry shots and poor low light performance in non ideal conditions.

    • The closest you'll get from a local new phone would be in this sub $500 price range probably would be the pixel 6a jb deal for $399 in two days. Motorola don't invest as much dollars in refining their software processing with their phone cameras so end up being inferior. Hence the Gcam recommendations. Obviously the sub $500 pixel 7 deal offered the best camera on a phone in this price range but the 6a is still pretty good and will be supported until mid 2027 at least..

    • +4

Keep in mind: 30Pro has SG 8 Gen 1 which is wasting the battery, that's why I paid $200 more for 30 Ultra which is SG 8+

  • +3

I have Edge 30 Neo and it is awesome.
Yes it came with 68w charger which goes from ~~low battery to 100% in 20 mins.
    SD695 on Android13 runs perfectly.

  • +1

I bought the 30 Ultra in June, it got A13, works well - more stable than the P7P it replaced.
Smaller and thinner, and the reverse charge is nice as an emergency

  • Was thinking to replace kid's phone (samsung s10), but it seems s10 still faster than 30 neo.
    https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/samsung-exynos-9820-vs…

  • My Edge 30 stopped charging after a few months. Would say 'connected, not charging'. Found a fix on Reddit and been fine ever since. Anyone else had the same problem?
Battery life not as great as my Umidigi F1, otherwise a great phone.

  • Will it get Android 14?

  • Does anyone know that Edge 30 Neo supports DC dimming? thanks

    • +1

Is this similar? There is flicker prevention which I've turned on

      • Thanks for reply. I guess this is DC dimming.

        • +1

I prefer the Neo's P-OLED display over the Edge 30's AMOLED display which I had used briefly. Seems less eye strain

          • @trixieb: I found out that Edge 30 supports DC dimming, how could you have such an experience?
My eyes are very sensitive to OLED's PWM.

            • +1

@MarsGO: My eyes prefer my old Moto G9 Plus IPS LCD display out of the 3. The Edge 30 display seems brighter than Neo and upsets my eyes more

  • need a new phone the ultras screen isn't so great though and no ip rating =/

  • I would recommend 30 Neo at $299. However we haven't received Android 13 yet. The updates are not sent out at the same time to everyone.

We bought 3 X Neo in the last week of July and all 3 are still on Android 12. Security patch: 1 Dec 2022

Just bought the Ultra from JB, it's a very nice phone… So far so good

    • Can you please confirm if Motorola secure folder / moto secure works on it?

      • I've looked at it, haven't tried it out …

        • This means the feature is there, great. Thanks mate.

  • Was about to get Ultra directly but hold with the JB's comments, it says when connect to bluetooth the call volume becomes very low.
Did a bit google search and found it appears a common issue and no solution at all
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/motorola-edge-30/Low-volume-of-….

Has anyone owns edge 30 series got this issue? To me this is kind of deal break as it's a basic function of phone to adjust the volum when make call.

  • Neo coming up as $599 at JB HiFi and $799 on Amazon. Has the deal expired or am I missing something?
