Usually a fan of Samsung Pro drives, but 990…not so much with their health issues…

top tip: I would check you were using the latest firmware….run Samsung Magician and check

    • Wish I saw this 2 weeks ago :(

Just update your firmware and you're good to go

    • What health issue?

      • 980/990 pros had a firmware issue that would brick your drives early.

Sounds like Samsung shipped Ethan Hunt's order to you.

        • I thought that was only the early batches and firmware fixed it. No issue with them now

  • What's the all time low?

      $55.92

      • Thanks

Amazon UK only deal… but they also changed it for AUS .. NOT a pricing error .. wait 3 years and this drive will be $55 again

      • Nah. It's been sitting at this price for a while. Just look at the 2TB @ $269. Also you have to be Prime member to buy it @ $118.

I don't trust Samsung anymore - my 970 set itself to read only and it sounds like it was the same issue that plagues the 990s. Bought a Kingston nv2 for $63 in person at centre com and haven't looked back

    • Surely warranty would sort you out?

      • Truly not worth the hassle. They ask you to register a serial number, but the page that you input them is only for washing machines and large appliances. Anecdotal evidence from forums suggests that they will be obtuse at every step of the way, if you do somehow get through to them by picking the correct contact email or phone number out of the many that have been disconnected!
…sorry for unloading on you there

Haven't done one since Covid for a Samsung SSD, but before that, it was okay. From memory, filled in a form online, printed out the RMA documentation, posted the SSD back to Samsung AU RMA. After about 2 weeks, received a new, replacement SSD. Samsung RMA gave me a newer model with double the storage size.

Centrecom assisted RMA service is quite lengthy. Previously, they basically did the RMA for me, but I had to wait about 3 weeks. For Kingston SSD warranty, the best service I received was from MSY (yes, hard to believe and that was before UMart took over). I called and got a full refund authorised by MSY support team, went to the nearest store, handed in the paperwork and the SSD, received the full refund on the spot.

NV2 is a lottery. I reckon you have the SMI controller version with that price (Phison E21 versions are most likely long gone). Also, need to check whether it is TLC or QLC (since CrystalDiskMark would basically just test the SLC cache).

Kingston nv2 is trash.. you should of got a Kingston 3000

      • Currently $105 for 1TB on Amazon. Got one myself at this price about a month ago.

      • Excellent constructive criticism. Can I borrow your time machine?

    • Just like Seagate's HDD back in those day's 😄.

  • Any recommendations for heatsinks

  • @ChatGPT

This for a NAS? (Same deal, cache, 1 user, multiple WordPress installs, 20gb memory, 6tb raid.

    Thanks xx
