  • only 1 GB on GPU…

    • +2

So? GPU memory isn't that important, it's more so of what model GPU you have and at 1920*1080 1GB should be sufficient. I'm more concerned about the fact it's a 630M.

      • +1

And its expensive for GT630M. You can get laptops with much better graphics for less than that (check last 2 weeks of ozbargain)

    • +5

you mean only 630M, it doesnt matter if it has 4GB its still a POS for games

    • Vram obviously make things fast at small resolutions right?

      • +3

Lol, no. You either have enough VRAM, or you don't have enough. Having an excess of Video memory unused does not improve performance. 1GB of VRAM is generally OK even for games @ 1080p res.

edit: Were you being sarcastic? My sarcasm meter is broken today.

        • +1

appears your meter is indeed broken

    • Agreed, this few memories will really hamper the speed of the graphics.

  • +1

the 630m is barely enough to run Battlefield 3 at 1080p resolution. At most you can expect 35fps framerate at Low graphical settings @720p, which is just playable.

Other games should run fine though, so long as you keep the settings at DX10.

given the weight, i might as well just buy a desktop for similar specs at cheaper price.

  • Will consider it if half price

  • It's not bad but, unless my tired eyes deceive me, I notice it doesn't have Blu-Ray. It also has nothing about HDMI out in the Specs.

    • -1

Has a HDMI port and Bluray Combo drive.

  • Dell 17 inch is cheaper when on special with 650 video card.

  • 630m is rubbish. Anything below a 640m can't really be considered to run games, especially not in 1080p

    • +2

You're kind of discounting older(and still VERY capable) cards.

This honestly isn't a bargain at this price. If it was maybe one to two hundred dollars cheaper it might be an okay deal.

  • +1

Its just not worth the money since you could get a clevo or dell with the similar specs for much less. The gt 630m is just a rebadged gt 540m.
1GB or 2GB of data wont matter because the card's gpu wont be sufficent to run games with playable fps on the screen's default resolution.

  • Why does everything have to "gaming", a laptop shouldn't be for 'gaming' if it ain't got at least a GTX X60 series card or the ATI equivalent.

But with that said, clearly with the 18.4 inch screen this would be good for multimedia or graphics design, as the GPU would be sufficient for that.

Everything isn't gaming. Its hard to find a 18.4" 1080p laptop with GTX560 for $1299

  • I wish I saw this earlier…already bought XPS17 (with FHD screen & only 3GB Nvidia 555)… :(

    • +2

Don't worry, the 555 is better than the 630.

  • +1

Doesn't catch of the day do refurbished goods?

  • wouldn't even play minecraft smoothly..

  • Full HD gaming playback via youtube maybe? Their Acer deal for ~$600 or whatever with the 2GB GT640m was more suited for gaming. Classic false advertising from COTD.

  • Might as well just use the money to buy a custom built PC with better specs since this thing isn't very portable.

    • Its a desktop replacement therefore not meant to be very portable.

      • That was my point… You might as well build a better pc system for cheaper.
