As much as im tempted to try, dont want to end up paying a ETC

      • Another update - I was a bit annoyed that I was pressured to just take a new number by having a new sim posted to me (I was also told that they could try to port the number but it would take a very long time and would probably fail anyway) so I went on to Live Chat to discuss this further and the Live Chat agent was being extremely difficult and purposefully obtuse and after going around in circles for 40 minutes I said I didn't want to speak to her anymore (but left that chat open) and called Optus to cancel the plan due to the quality of service they were providing me.

Whilst I was speaking to Optus, the Live chat Rep put her Manager on and then the person I was speaking to also was notified of that - to resolve the situation, they said they'd port my number, keep me on the $59 p/m plan (with no contract) but give me a 50% discount for 12 months ($29.50 p/m) with no contract still. They also said I could go down to the $49 p/m plan and receive 50% off for 12 months if I wanted. I agreed to stay as the Manager on Live Chat and the phone rep were very, very helpful and understood what I wanted to do. As I wanted a physical sim (rather than esim) and wanted my number ported, they said they couldn't use the replacement sim I received so they'd post another one to me and then the port should work fine.

        • I agreed to have a new sim on the $59 p/m plan (no contract but same 100gb data allowance)

          You agreed to new sim.
What you did above was not necessary.

Sounds to me you wanted a further discount and had a winge to optus customer care till you got what you wanted.

          • @easternculture: Interesting interpretation mate but you're pretty far from the truth. Porting should never be an issue and to sign up for a plan and within the sign up process, indicate that you're porting an existing number but then when the sim card is received, it doesn't work and you're told that it most likely won't work or if it does it may take a very long time, I don't think you'd be happy either…

            • +1

@akyeeeahdude: Incorrect. This is what you initially said

I agreed to have a new sim on the $59 p/m plan (no contract but same 100gb data allowance)

So you agreed, its a legal contractual agreement that even TIO would enforce

Then you broke the agreement and chose to have a winge regarding the service even though the resolution was satisfactory.

If i was the supervisor, i would have pulled that phone conversation and rejected your complaint.

              , I don't think you'd be happy either…

If im not happy, i reject all offers. I dont agree to something and change my mind next day.

              • +1

@easternculture: Interesting logic mate - how did I break the agreement? I committed to a $69p/m plan (24 months) and elected to port my number. When I received the sim card, the port didn't occur so I contacted Optus who told me that they wouldn't be able to complete the port and the only way to fix it was to send me a new sim card in the mail (as the one I had received was useless apparently). Two options were offered which I didn't ask for - 1. Be placed on a $59p/m plan with no contract and take a new mobile number or 2. Be placed on a $59p/m plan with no contract and Optus would try to port it again but it would take a very long time and probably not work.

How am I breaking a "legal contractual agreement that even TIO would enforce" if I've been placed onto a $59p/m plan with NO CONTRACT? The only party that technically broke the contract was Optus as there was absolutely no way I could remain on the $69p/m 24 months plan, even if they gave me a new number. It's something to do with it being an Officeworks exclusive plan which is why Optus directly couldn't place me on it. I'll eagerly await your answer… grabs popcorn

                • @akyeeeahdude: Because as per your comment , you agreed to new number. A monkey would even comprehend that.

I agreed to have a new sim on the $59 p/m plan (no contract but same 100gb data allowance)

Your new agreement above is contractual as per australian contract law.

                  • @easternculture: If we're being technical then a post paid plan, yes, is a contract - but the contract terms allow me to cancel at any time. Going back to what you said - how can the TIO enforce that? What would they be enforcing? Why aren't I allowed to cancel the new contract/plan I'm on? Optus has told me that I can cancel at any time yet you seem to infer that you know better. I can't help but think you're being purposefully obtuse :)

  • Why would anyone deliberately pay $69 a month for a phone plan? You're throwing money away. You can get unlimited plans for less than $20 with enough data.

Avoid Optus at all costs, they don't look after customer data, as everyone knows. Your details will be on the dark web in no time.

    • so they can get a ''new phone'' without paying outright

    • Can you point me to a $20 plan with unlimited data?

      • Can you point me to a $20 plan with unlimited data?

I meant unlimited calls and texts, with enough data to do everything you need when out and about. Data rolls over to next month too, even on cheap plans.

I suppose this "bargain" relies on the assumption the Fold5 is actually worth the RRP of $2599. Somehow I don't think they are flying off the shelves at that price.

This deal is brilliant isn't it?
    $997 for a $2500 phone only.
69pm plan fixed for 24 months.

Just taking $30 from plan as wasted money - $30*24=$720

    So $977+$720=$1697.

Still getting a $900 off from RRP for phone released just 1 month back. Too good a deal I think.

    • you are stuck with it for 24 months. did you add that up with 69? that includes all bills including the phones price in the end
how much is it ALL up?

    • Plus another $500 in OW bonus credit, if you trade in.

  • +1

Ya 69 per month for 24 months.

From this 69 - Assume $39 as a service cost which you can't avoid anyway, and assume balance $30 as wasted as additional phone payment.

And so total spend on assumed phone cost for 24 months = 977+720 = $1697

Total service cost for 24 months = 39*24=$936

These are weird calculations.. but there is definitely a big savings the way I see it. But not sure what everyone else sees. Maybe I'm getting it wrong.

(Well let me get the phone in-hand first. Will know next week)

    • oh ok wait so its 1697+936 = 2,633 all up with plan and phone
or did you add it to it sorry i think i confused myself lol

  • +1

Ya all up is 2633 as per my calculations

  • Thanks. Bought one. Traded iPhone 12 64 gb for $385. Hopefully I'll get $500 bonus as well.

    • Did your sim activate or did they change you to monthly plan as above

      • I've just ordered today. Expected delivery at Wednesday.

        • Any update

          • @easternculture: I've posted my iphone 12 today from Australia Post. I haven't received any emails other than invoice from Officeworks. Hopefully I'll be able to collect the device tomorrow from Officeworks.

          • @easternculture: My Click and collect was estimated today but didn't receive any email or call from Officeworks. Tracking shows my phone is on its way to the store. I'll wait until tomorrow and see.

          • +1

@easternculture: Collected my phone just now. Inserted sim and instantly my sim was ported. 😂😂 will be definitely paying $69 per month now.

    • how do they know to get the bonus $500, there is no where to choose to apply a trade in?

  • Anyone else have a greyed out 'sign up now' button?

    • Try different coloured phone. Out of stock phone grey out for me.

  • Moorup confirmed receipt of my trade-in phone today and shortly after confirmed the condition was as they expected. Very straightforward.

    • I sent mine yesterday. No any emails yet.

    • Same here. Hopefully they send the gift card shortly.

On another note, my Optus port in did not work so Optus cancelled it. No contact, no account. Ended up keeping my month-to-month at Telstra. Although, Optus did offer me a 50% discount to move my number to them, as my partner is already a customer.

      • Sounds good. So you don't have to pay $69 per month??

        • +1

This was discussed on the previous page.

          • @gadgetguy: I went through it just now
Wow, I'll try with mine as well once i collect my phone. Hopefully my sim wouldn't port as well 🤣

          • @gadgetguy: @gadgetguy did you also ordered esim? Mine is a sim card.

            • +1

@Xtreamdoze: No, I got a physical sim. And they couldn't make it work, so they cancelled the Plan.

              • @gadgetguy: So are you guys porting or new number .

Also not sure if i should get one. Started using my s23U today and realised no SD card. Its 512GB but system files are already at 90GB. Also Fold 5 battery is smaller than Ultra 5000mAH (Ultra) vs 4400 mAH (Fold)

                • @easternculture: I bought it because i wanted to try the foldable. Always wanted to try them but they were expensive and thought they're fragile.

I'm porting my number. I'm on coles 365 days plan.

                  • @Xtreamdoze: I mean this all up is 2600+ just not up front.. isnt that expensive?

                    • @Rukiata: It is but not upfront is a big plus.
Also if my sim port doesn't work it's an absolute bargain. I've paid 996 upfront. Getting $500 bonus trade-in. So hopefully sim doesn't activate, I'll end up having phone for less than $500. 🤣🤣

                      • @Xtreamdoze: hope they didn't charge you cancellation fee as well, I am thinking to buy as well.

                        • @jwl81124: My sim card got activated as soon as i instead it. I'll ask for cancellation next month and see how much it costs.

  • Could someone please guide me, what to do with optus $400 off joining bonus. i have received an email with redeem code for $400 off.
    I followed below steps -

    1. trade in old device - received instance credit for trade in. Bonus gift card will reflect in Nov
    2. sign up for $69 optus plan 24m from the product page and this reduced the zfold5 price to $977

Received email from Optus with $400 bonus after placing the order. i am confused now whether this needs to be bundle up with order to get further $400 discount.

    • You enter the bonus code as part of checkout for the Fold. It should have already taken you to the order page, with the code already applied.

  • +1

the deal finished, page no longer there.

      • hope you can cancel the plan without penalty.

  • Anyone waiting for the gift card, Moorup emailed me to say they don't send the bonus gift card until November 8.

    • That was always the case.

      • +1

I thought I had read it as they will deliver by November 8, not, on November 8.

        • The email I got from them states:

"Keep an eye on your emails, as we will be sending you your Officeworks gift cards to <my email address> no later than Wednesday 8 November 2023, after the program is finished."

For those that are curious about the fragility, go to the reddit sub galaxyfold or even just google galaxy fold screen issues. I've had my first original fold's screen die in 1.5 years, my fold 2 less than a year and now my fold 4 is showing microcracks on the crease after 6 months. The worst is samsung repair centres don't do the repairs themselves but outsource to a third party that will try and use whatever excuse they can to justify charging you to cover for the screen replacement even if it is a known issue. I was really hoping the screen fragility has been fixed but alas, when this fold 4 of mine dies I'm going straight back to an iphone.

    • I've gone for Care+, specifically so I don't have to worry about this sort of stuff.
