  • It does say "Offer available online only." so possibly not?

  • I was more going to go in store to ask the question. They seem like independent deals so maybe?

    • +3

Went into store. The employee and manager had no answers. They couldn't work out if you could get the gift card as well the phone.

  • Can someone do the math

Cancellation fee $828 if on 24 month plan

    • +4

      Get $1500 discount + $500 trade in bonus and cancel the plan to pay $828, $1325 for Galaxy Z Fold5 256GB, it's a steal.

      • How do you get $1325?

        • $997-$500+$828=$1325 minus your trade in phone value.

          • +6

@jimojr: website T&C says $500 is a gift card you get AFTER purchasing the mobile phone

I think the calculation should have been:
            - You pay $997 upfront + 828 ETC = $1825
            - You get a 256GB Fold 5 now and a $500 officeworks gift card later (before November)..

Anyone is please correct me if I'm wrong.. I would really like to stack the $500 gift card to pay for upfront phone cost :(

            • -3

@b0b0: Doesn't make any difference to me, I have about $1000 ultimate home gift card bought from previous 15% discount deal.

              • +2

@jimojr: I understand your point of view. The difference here is paying only $1,325 for just the phone itself… Versus forking out $1825 to get phone + gift card. Not everyone would value $500 officeworks gift card in the same way as $500 cash…

To your point, because you can get Ultimate GC at 15% off, this means the bonus $500 officework gift card is not worth $500 cash to you

                • @b0b0: No, it's still $500 giftcard, just swapping from Home gift card to Officeworks gift card, the only difference is I can't use it at other stores.

                  • +3

@jimojr: $500 woollies is like cash for me. Office works, not so much.

      • -3

Phone is not worth $1325 😒
When are people going to realise this.?

  • +4

    256gb $997

Good deal if you can combine the trade in credit

  • Gift card "up to" $500. "New Optus customers only".

Some important details not in the post.

    • +1

      Gift card "up to" $500

Do you think different devices will have different trade in bonus?

        • We are talking about trade in bonus not the trade in value.

Trade-in your old tech to receive an Officeworks Gift Card and purchase a new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 or Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 to get up to $500 in additional Officeworks Gift Cards (with trade-in).

Trade in bonus is $500 for Galaxy Z Fold5, not suer about the Flip 5.

          • -1

@jimojr: get up to $500 in additional Officeworks Gift Cards (with trade-in).*

then this -> *Offer available until 13th September. For Trade-in T&Cs visit here

Title of Trade in "Trade-in your tech for an instant Gift Card"

          • @jimojr: you sure that's a trade in "bonus"? Doesn't read like a bonus - more like trade in value.

            • @Maestrok: Yes, if you use cheap phone for trade in. My Galaxy S8 trade in value is $20 and I will get $500 trade in bonus after buying the Galaxy Z Fold5.

      • $100 for watch
        $300 for Flip
        $500 for Fold

    • Updated. Thanks mate

  • Is it available for flip 5 as well ?

    • +1

$300 GC according to the website

  • How to work out trade in bonus?

Also, any major difference compared to fold 4?

  • Can you trade in an old device and get the $500 gift card? They'll give me $10 for my old pixel 3 XL

    • I think you will get $500 gift card when you buy a Galaxy Z Fold5 with your trade in order number.

  • Many of the ones you see in stores for display, e.g. in some JB HiFi stores…

There's so much evidence of people trying to damage the screen. Scratches / marks, screen protector forceful peeling (you can see the fingernail prints dug into the corners to pull it off), and damaged displays thanks to fingernails forcefully being dug into them. Really malicious, unnatural use of the phone.

    rant over.

  • +2

Looks different from other Trade in promotions, in that the "Bonus" trade-in gift card CANNOT be used for the actual phone purchase (to offset the upfront cost of $997).

If I interpret the promotion correctly, the steps are:

    1. Trade in your old phone
    2. Purchase the Fold 5 or Flip 5 (unclear at this stage whether sign up via phone plan is fine)
    3. Submit a claim, provide order number from step 2
    4. Bonus gift card up to $500 will be sent to you before November

    FAQ from Officeworks website:
    https://officeworks.moorup.com.au/promotion/flip-fold-watch-…

Do I get my additional trade-in gift cards at the same time as my normal trade-in gift cards?

No. Your additional trade-in gift cards are supplied separately to the initial device trade-in value and will be issued separately. Additional Trade-In Gift Card will only be supplied after the Trade-In device is received by Moorup. We will issue Samsung Additional Trade-In Bonus Gift Cards on or before Wednesday 8 November 2023 for all claims that meet the eligibility requirements.

    • You can't even use the standard trade in credit as there is no option to use gift cards during the checkout

  • What's the $69 plan's inclusion?

    • +11

      Let me ask her

Trade in is a joke, was offered $170 for iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB

    • +4

      Ill offer you $200 haha

    • +3

Because you selected that the screen is damaged.

  • Its $1264 outright for fold4 trade in with bonus thru samsung direct , but im not ready for in until ouright price is under $900

    • Confusing as… are you waiting for Fold 4 to drop to $900?

      • +1

Sorry I meant for fold5 trade in with fold4. My fold 4 valued for $850 by samsung and bonus trade in is $500. Samsung needs to discount the fold 5 by at least $500 more to make the outright purchase under $1000 . Im hoping this happening soon as iphone 15 coming out

        • +1

It may happen sooner than you think lol. Last year I bought my fold 4 in November for about $1350 (as part of the buy 4 get further 20% discount deal)

Convincing myself not to upgrade yet given the minor improvement…

        • By the time they discount the fold 5, the bonus trade in will be gone? or have you already traded in your device, got the credit and waiting for a purchase?

  • Trade in value of your phone and bonus $500 can only be used in store and not as part of the purchase of the phone.

  • +5

What ever happened to the days when you would get a free phone for signing up to 24 months contract.

    • I got a Samsung tab s4 (wifi+4G) + ANC headsets + 180GB/month for $65 in 2 years.
      I miss such deal :-(

      • I too got that deal.

    • You could still get it but with cheaper phone

I really don't get these $69/month plans for a phone. You can get byo mvno on Optus or Telstra networks for $29, so you are paying what $40/month to pay off the phone? About 960 over two years on top of the $997?

    • Pretty much, yes. Kinda similar to the one from Harvey Norman last month.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790390

    • I think Optus $69 plan gives you 500GB of data per month. No $29 plan from any MVNO is giving you that much

      • +1

It's not about what you're getting, it's about what you're using. If you're only using 20GB/month anyway then that's easily an extra $50 a month for nothing

  • Can't seem to find the trade in "bonus" promo. Only reference to trade in value of whatever phone you have to trade in.

  • -1

Do I need to have a "qualified old phone" to get the $500 trade-in bonus gift card? Apparently, my old phone - TCL is not on their list. :(

    • To my surprise my iphone 5s 16gb is worth $5 🤣

      • At least you are eligible for the $500 trade-in promo offer. However, my other old phone - the iPhone 5 is not on their list either. /sad

  • -1

Or just wait 12 months and buy the phone outright for less than $1500?

    • -3

The phone is not worth 1500 imo.
Only willing to pay 850 😀 so I'll be waiting another 5 years.

      • +2

        Phone is not worth $850
Only willing to pay $250 so ill be waiting another 7 years

I had two z fold 3s that broke in 4 months. It really can't be overstated how brittle these phones are. When it does break, and it will, you will wind up in a month's long dance with Samsung voice of customer trying to get a replacement. The support is truly terrible.

That said, it's a productivity powerhouse and amazing for doing things on the go. If only the support were better.

    • Have had a fold 4 for about a year. No problem outside of the inner screen protector peeling a bit which they fixed in 20 minutes for free 🤷‍♀️

      • Where did you get it fix ? Thx

        • Straight to the Samsung store :) was pretty easy

          • +1

@yellowrhino93: look on ebay they all break the same way. so many faulty ones.

      • Extremely important to note that it's not an in-store fix for all stores. The only store that can do today in store in Queensland is Chermside. But even then I was told to drop it off and then pick it up again the next day.

Unfortunately because the staff were incompetent they damaged the screen protector before applying it, applied it anyway, and then didn't tell me before I drove 2 hours to the store. Also, because the stores aren't owned my Samsung, but are instead contracted to them via retail prodigy, it's not easy to go in and enforce your ACL rights like asking for a refund or repair. The whole thing is a huge mess.

Interesting I did mine at carousel in Perth

  • +1

Would rather put that on a 4090 rtx then that one.

  • Anyone gone through and used the trade in offer?

The way I read the offer is that it's just a pure trade in, of up to $500. Not trade in value PLUS a trade in bonus.

    • +1

I rang Officeworks HQ this morning. Operator confirmed you can indeed get the phone, and the $500 trade in bonus together.

      • I just re read one of the links above. I think I understand now.

        1. So this is a 3 stage process, trade in your old phone, receive OW credit.

        2. Purchase new contract on Optus and they give you a code/credit to allow you to purchase at the discounted price.

        3. Submit a claim for the additional $500 OW bonus credit using details of your purchase for the phone.

        Is this correct?

        • +2

I can confirmed. Ordered and submitted the trade in request. Received confirmation email soon after submitted.

  • +1

Took the plunge on a 512GB model. I'm already paying for a prepaid Vodafone account and needed to upgrade for more data, so will cancel and use this new Optus one.

Price = $1177, got immediate $320 Officeworks Gift Cards in trade in for my Galaxy S21+ and have lodged a claim for the $500 bonus gift card.

Will TRS in an upcoming trip too.

    • Make sure you have your Full name on invoice for claims over $1000.
Otherwise they have the right to refuse the TRS.

      • Thanks but I am very experienced at TRS :-)

    • How much does your receipt show? Does it show $1177 or the full price (like how JB hifi does it)?

      • $1177

        • Thanks for the heads up

JB hifi is always the best when it comes to this.. the receipt would record the $1220 'discount' as a gift card, so for TRS it's $$$$$$

    • Did you do it in store? Did you carry the device to be traded in? Thanks.

  • Not cheap but Optus has the Samsung slim S-Pen cases on special for $125 (includes the pen). These are $169 normally, ($174 at amazon).

  • @gadgetguy what was the check out payment page like? Does it direct you back to officeworks website and allow adding of gift cards? Thinking that you could stack this deal with officeworks gift cards purchased at 10% sale (Ultimate gift card).

    • I mentioned in an earlier post above, you cannot pay any part of it by gift cards.

It simply doesn't appear as a option on the payment page or any prior page (I went back a few times to check).

      • Thanks! I think I'll pull the trigger on this as well. Pretty good deal if one values OW gift cards.

        • You could get an ipad with the GC.
Basically ipad + fold 5 for approx $1800.
          Not bad

  • So will they given bonus for my broken Ipad mini 4?

  • Note: If you speak to the optus agent online they will be able to change your plan from $69 to $59 no lock in contract.

    • Have you done that. And what are the steps. Its a $828 gamble lol

      • +1

I had this today - couldn't activate the supplied SIM/plan and when I called, they said it had not been provisioned properly. And they could not fix it.

So they cancelled the 24 month plan and set me up on a month to month (!) $69 Plan.

So now I can cancel at any time and have no obligation. Not sure who screwed up (Optus or Officeworks) but I'm happy with the outcome.

        • Did you sign up instore or online.

Its a big gamble to take though

    • My Z Fold5 (and sim) arrived in store today - collected it and noted that it only came with a sim card and absolutely no supporting paperwork/instructions nor did I have any services connected to my Optus account. Jumped straight on to Live Chat to activate it and the second person I spoke advised that it couldn't be activated due to a provisioning issue and said it would just be easier if I agreed to have a new sim on the $59 p/m plan (no contract but same 100gb data allowance) and it would be easier again if I didn't ask to port my number. It took AGES to sort out (over 1.5 hours) and the new sim will be posted.

FWIW when I signed up, I confirmed I wanted to port my number.
