Is free alternative - Luna Adblock VPN dodgy ?

The old saying of if it's free , you are the product.

But still, even if you paid for something does not mean you are not the product :)

This includes ADGuard DNS which is like PiHole but hosted by them.
I moved from NextDNS to AdGuard DNS and o find it faster with less false blocks.
Also at this price $25 usd for 5yrs vs nextDNS at $30usd a year it’s a no brainier.

    • How does it perform on your phone when internet connection is unstable? I am using PersonalDNSFilter which is a VPN server hosted on your phone that acts as PiHole and your phone is connected to itself via VPN: but sometimes when the internet is unstable the apps don't like it very much and can take minutes to recover. Doesn't it happen with ADGuard?

The AdGuard app has the choice of pseudo vpn like PersonalVPNFilter or the native mode that uses the DNS setting in iOS.
Pseudo gives stats in the app, but using native you can still see stats on the website.

    • Is it the same AdGuard dns you get on their Adblocker app?

      • Yes. But you can customise the blocklists instead of just using their default lists

    • Are you sure this includes AdGuard DNS? I can't see anything about it on the product page - DNS seems to be a separate product

      • Top of this page: https://adguard-dns.io/en/license.html

Can confirm I bought this and got VPN + DNS on my account.

        • Thanks, will check this out. Currently using NextDNS but dealing with tons of false positives is a headache, their interface is not that great and hasn't been updated for two years.

          • @367: Yea I moved over from NextDNS.
I personally think NextDNS has a better dashboard and stats but AdGuard seems to maintain a much better default list

  • I think it is better to buy Adguard Family Plan: Lifetime Subscription for $29.99 USD. Here:
    https://stacksocial.com/sales/adguard-family-plan-lifetime-s…

    • That’s the AdGuard App. Not the VPN or DNS.

      • Oh right! Sorry! ignore my message

        • No. You are not wrong.
Different options for different scenarios. I personally have both and use it like this:
The App would be better if you wanted to block adds on (just) your iPhone anywhere (home, office, wifi, 4g).
The DNS would be better to set up on your router and all devices on your wifi would get the benefit, but only when at home.
App will block some stuff DNS can’t. DNS is easier to set up for whole house.
I use DNS because it also works for devises that don’t support the app at home (like smart tv, Apple TV) and I use the app for my phone so I don’t get ads while browsing on the train to work.
