Woolworths Money APP to Stop from 6th November 2023

Noticed the following pop-up on my Woolworths Money APP and confirmed this with Woolworths Gift Cards Customer Service Representative earlier today:
"We would like to inform you that you won't be able to add your Gift Cards and Everyday Rewards Cards to the Money App from 6th November 2023 onwards, However, you can use the latest version of the Everyday Rewards App to continue adding your favourite Gift Cards. Alternatively, you can also continue to check your Gift Card balances on the Woolworths Gift Card website without using the Everyday Rewards App."

I'll see how things go with the Everyday Rewards APP, but I have found the Woolworths Money APP to be extremely reliable and easy when adding Gift Cards automatically from e-mails.

  • It's just as easy to use the Everyday Rewards APP - you can display the gift card on your screen and use the camera function of the APP to scan the details into the APP.

    • +2

What happens if you have multiple rewards cards though?

      • I just used my brother label print to print the barcodes of the rewards card and stick them on my transport card for convenient scanning :) (since I always have my myki and/or opal card in my wallet - but the barcode stickers can be stuck anywhere, i have flybuys on one side and ww rewards on the other)

      • @BargainMe Stocard app? :)

        • No, I mean if you add the gift card to one account in the Rewards app but sign into the other account, you won't be able to see it anymore.

          • @BargainMe: @BargainMe eGift Cards are not locked to a single Account, they can be used if you hold the original email or phyiscal card.

The rewards app is only designed for a single rewards card, there would be no reason for someone to have multiple reward cards with the rewards app as it has the added bonus of EDpay.

Not that we're misunderstanding the advantage of the EDM_App as it is able to contain more than 1 rewards card, however this can still be achieved by adding the rewards to the Wallet of your smart device therefore the EDM_app has now reached EOL and defunct main use for EDM Credit Cards.

What took me 2 taps to get a barcode on screen now takes 4, plus all the extra waiting time for each screen to load.

I'd say it's only going to be easier if you're using everyday pay and not scanning the barcode (maybe, I don't know as haven't actually used it)

  • +2

@savemore this coincides with the closure of Woolworths credit card…it was great while it lasted.

    • There's no way to remove the dead CC. I had to delete all data to restart it.

    • what was good about it?

i tried applying but saw they were taking any new customers

      • +1

There was no annual fee promotion before and the customers who still hold it will have to switch (or already switched) to MQ Platimum with no annual fee, normally $99.

    • Add your gift card to the wallet in your EDR app
    • Update the payment settings to use gift cards first
    • Scan the barcode on the EFTPOS terminal when making the payment
    • Touchless payment made

It's a pretty seamless process that I've been using since they began rolling out Everyday Pay.

    • +8

Good for single EDR, not for multi-players.

      • Exactly what I was thinking

        • All Woolworths Group eGCs show updated balance in Prezzee if you get them there.

      • They continue to close the loop holes.

        • Yes, Prezzee won't get balance updated soon and may be not allowed to sell them like Shopback.

      • That all depends on how many phones you have 😉

I have had very poor experience with Everyday Rewards APP.
On at least three instances my wallet has been charged but the woolworths payment register failed to acknowledge the payment.
The integration between everyday app and the payment registers at stores is hopeless (it work until it doesn't).
And when it you are stuck with such payment issue, the woolies staff are like a lost lamb and they just direct us to make a repayment and then we are left on our own to call the contact centre (wait for hours) and get the issue resolved.
I would rather havethe money app and use t he manual scan & pay feature when it comes to making payments using gift card.

    • I've had a payment stuck one time. And the next day, it eventually reset so i can use the app again

  • +1

Is it safe to put gift cards into the Everyday Rewards app? I remember a lot of people have had their reward points stolen somehow.

  • +15

NOOOO, It's such a simple and effective app. I cant believe they're getting rid of it

    • +1

I just sent an email to [email protected] and explained that I'm really disappointed that it is closing. I used it to store my gift cards as well as mum's when I would do her shopping. No way to label or choose what gift card you use in the everyday rewards app. Obviously it's another ploy to get people to use their scan QR checkout technology and sign up to everyday rewards

      • +1

The next best way is only to buy it on Prezzee only as it updates balance.

        • +1

Eh no discount on prezzee though

        • +1

Unfortunately I don't think Prezzee captures the transaction history of the gift card…

          • @forrester: EDR app barely does that either, apart from showing an amount was spent. Can't see the store and location like you could with Money.

  • +1

I had a feeling this was going to happen eventually. Looks like you can add your gift cards into the EDR app, but there's no copy paste function in the Money app so you need to type the numbers in manually.

    • +1

You can long press the number and copy (on Android at least)

Or just scan the barcode again

      • +2

Ah thanks, that worked on iOS.

  • Will the app still function for existing gift cards we already have stored?

    • It seems yes. It makes harder to track balance unless a customer adopts EDPay. It will reserve more unspent eGCs as permanent asset.

  • So if you have gift cards in money app , you can still use the gift cards, I just got worried they would want u to
remove the existing gift cards ?

  • +1

Everyday rewards app sometimes crashes too. Not the best app to be honest. Had thousands of credit on gift card loaded in the rewards app, but still had to pay by visa.

    • That's what its wants to achieve. More glitches will occur and be left uncared as in its favor.

  • -1

I stopped using the Money app since Everyday Pay came out. It's easier and takes less steps. You just scan the QR code on the terminal. No need to scan the gift card barcode or type in the pin. And no need to scan Rewards card separately, it's all one step.

    • You never receive 20%+ bonus points back offer.

  • +3

This is very disappointing. Not all the gift cards I have are for adding to the household pool via the Everyday Rewards app.

In the Woolworths Money app, the cards could be labelled accordingly.

    • -1

      I didn't neg you but… what?

    • +2

It is an app that has performed flawlessly over the years.
I hate to see it sunset so soon.

  • +1

Everyday Pay you can't change the order in which you want gift cards to be used after you have added them :(

  • You know App isn't an acronym, right?

    • Associate caught here.

      • wat

        • No, danm02 if I remember correctly.

          • @Neoika: Good memory! Not sure what you mean by "associate caught here" though

            • @dm02: You work for Woolworths Mobile unless changed job.

              • +1

@Neoika: Mods have previously told me since it's a separate part of the business it doesn't count as associated. I have nothing to do with either Everyday Rewards nor Woolworths Money (and fwiw I don't really post deals for Mobile anymore, although when I was it was on my own accord and nothing to do with my job role)

  • +1

Halp, what’s the best way to now manage Wish cards for EG petrol stations? Use a screenshot saved in photo album? I don’t think the petrol receipt shows the remaining card balance.

  • Everyday rewards app is even better than the older money app, Everyday Pay will automatically use up your gift cards without you having to split transactions for using multiple gift cards.

Defs an upgrade over the old money app

    • The issue is: EDR is mandatory here.

  • I have never loaded any payment forms into EDR. I have been using EDR ap purely to activate & monitor rewards and keep track of fuel vouchers
Let's say i have one of each of Woolworths and Wish gift cards loaded in EDR. If i am paying at woolies, how does EDR choose which gift card to use?
    .

    • In order by which was added first, then accepted or not. It doesn't prioritize store eGCs as most may prefer.

e.g. If you add a Wish first, Woolies/Big W store second, the system will deduct the balance on Wish first.

      • guess I'll need to add them in order of largest discount first then, or just use images
and i'll keep money ap for the multiple EDR orange cards we have (one per family member) until it stops working altogether
        .

      • Not a problem if you only get wish cards.

        • +1

I would if I got the same discount on Wish cards.

  • +2

What is not clear to me, is that can you only add the cards as part of Everyday Pay or is there going to be a repository of separate gift cards, that you can select and scan manually, like in the Money app?

I suspect the former, which will be very nasty trying to use cards across multiple Rewards cards, Like I do now.

When you purchase gift cards there is no expectation that they have to be tied to a specific Rewards account, which is what they are potentially forcing us to do, if you want to use the app for storage of the cards.

Will be such a backwards step to have to use screenshots of my gift cards.

    • All very good points, which you should raise with Everyday Rewards!

  • I have woollies gift cards I bought on everyday rewards app, and when I pay with everyday rewards by scanning the QR on the register, my phone says “removing gift cards that can’t be used” and forces my payment to stores credit card … really good lol

  • +1

The giftcard transaction history in EDR app is not as good as the Money app, I cannot see the location where my card got used. I had an instance where my giftcards were used in faraway suburbs before and I was able to report on those. Hopefully they make the trans history as good as the money app one.

    • No, it makes it like it. You can only track up 10 transactions now. Some people may mistakenly report their own spends long time ago, which creates extra work.

      • Does it? Coz I do not see the location anymore, I am referring to the gift card transaction history not the Activity in Everyday Rewards. I stash cards so I usually have over 15 cards which I monitor every now and then, I purchased some of those off here in OZB. With the Money app, I can easily browse through cards and check the recent transactions and that's how I caught some sellers here may have used their sold cards mistakenly as I am sure of my expenditures and whereabouts. In the ER version, it just indicates where you spent as in Woolworths or EG or Big W without any location info.

        • I can't even see that. All I have is a Woolies logo and GIFT CARD REDEEM $value, even though I spent it at EG.

          • @bamzero: hey mate yea you're right I just checked it all shows up as woolworths. I thought coz I have only been doing woolies shopping that's why but i filled in eg the other day, so it does not even indicate the shop now. Hopefully they update the app with a better version.

            • @streetsmart: also unlike Money, EDR App doesn’t seem to update gift card balances in real-time - haven’t checked/timed the delay, but appears to be at least several minutes :(

              • @tonester: yea I know :( just trying to get used to being on top of my gc balances every now and then in case there are dodgy transactions

  • +1

The Money App has a smart interface with different E gift cards and rewards cards with remaining balances displayed clearly in a concise ordered stack. The rewards cards also have points and redemptions displayed. Further, transactions details of the gift cards are detailed. I love it.

I envisage problems with the EDR app.

Firstly, through various benefit schemes, I am able to purchase gift cards with varying discounts. So, I do not always choose to use the "earliest added" card first. I want to choose whether I use my Woolworths store card or my Wish card for example. So I will still have to manually scan my card of choice and not use Everyday Pay feature.

I wiill have to keep photos of linked family cards now to utilise my 10% vouchers or fuel discount vouchers of choice because I can only be logged in to my own EDR account.

The transaction details are not detailed. They don't even have a location.

    The list goes on.

Anyone know how to stop WW from killing the Money App…….please!

    • Agree. But at least the GC discount isn't changing (yet).

  • -1

I want the payment to auto deduct from giftcard but the button "Use Gift Card First" is disabled. When i enable it, it prompted me to add a debit card to enable giftcard payment !!!

WTF WW? I just wanted to pay by gift cards, why do i need to give you me credit/debit card info?

  • +2

Today is the last day that you can add a giftcard to it.

    • Thanks. Will add remaining cards, and hope it will be operable for as long as possible for all added cards.

      • +1

No, just pressed + and not allowed.

        • You are right … could not add and just realised you posted comment yesterday. Ah well, never mind! :-)

          • +1

@bluesky: I read somewhere that the App will be retired in January. You may not even open it later.

            • @Neoika: I see - will keep in mind. Thanks.

    • +2

I’m on iOS and seems my app is out of date as it asks me to update when I open the app. However, if I turn off wifi/mobile data and then open the app it bypasses the force update message. I can then press the + icon, turn on wifi/mobile data and add gift card details.

      • Yes, you've found a loophole. I am not surprised that a much older version of the App may work as well.

      • +1

I tried it on latest Android version. Started with data off, and I was actually able to get the card number prompt after hitting +. Had to turn data on for it to validate the card details but it added to the list ok.

Sadly can't replicate it though, keep getting the message now on + even with data off. Tried on the missus phone too but didn't have any luck even once.

Update to this, dropped back to previous version 3.4 and apart from a prompt to upgrade on startup which I can just tap outside of to dismiss, can add cards without a problem. Added to UpdateLocker LSPosed module, and I'll ride it out as long as it keeps working.

  • +2

If you are unhappy about this closure as I am, then I suggest you send an email to [email protected]. If they receive enough backlash then they might keep the app open, hopefully

    • Thanks, I just sent them an email to complain.

    • +1

I say no chance. Woolies ditched money (credit card) service which was this App created for in the beginning. This App is the barrier to promote EDR Pay.

  • So it looks like currently there is no good alternative for those users who don't want to tie a gift card to one Everyday account?
I don't suppose anyone knows of a 3rd party GC app like the one that was built for Coles GCs?

    • I'm using stocard temporarily until I find something better.

      • You can add giftcards to EDR App without ED Pay setup now, i.e. no debit/credit card needed.

I am not sure whether it requires EDR login or not. You can do the test.

        • OK cool thanks, it probably needs EDR login but that's fine, I log in anyway.

        • Can you scan a different edr number and then go back to scan those gift cards in a different account though?

          • +1

@knobbs: Of course you can. There's a new topic today.

            • @Neoika: Ok thanks. I guess it's kinda the same as using stocard, just one account will have all the GCs registered

              • @knobbs: Not sure what you mean. You can add gift cards to multiple EDR accounts, they aren't tied to any one account.

If you are scanning barcodes at the terminal the user experience in EDR still sucks but if using a previous version of Money isn't an option it's the only other way to see live balances easily. Otherwise any barcode app will do the job.

                • @bamzero: I have ~8 ED accounts. I don't want to add multiple gift cards 8x over to each account/login

                  • @knobbs: Gotcha.. Yeh I guess Stocard (Catima good option for Android) for the Rewards cards and EDR for the gift cards is probably the easiest option then if using an old version of Money isn't possible.

            • @Neoika: A topic on here? Can't see one.

  • +1

App NOT accessible from 31 Jan 2024.

    • -4

Good riddance, I say. As Steve Jobs famously said, the Everyday Rewards app is exactly what the customer needs — they just don’t know it yet

  • New replacement app is dead today.

    • +3

What is the "new replacement app"?

  • +2

besides wanting everyone to use the EDR App, the significant side-effect/benefit for Woolworths from decommissioning the Money App, is that it will now be impossible to easily check/monitor multiple EDR accounts point balances and fuel vouchers - @Rather be Travelling :(
