Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 (Online Exclusive Colours Only) from $1819.30 Delivered, $450 Trade-in Bonus @ Samsung Edu

1110

Guys first post here and I think I have a banger

The Samsung Edu portal seems to have reduced price for the online exclusive colours (so not applicable to the normal colours) across the whole Z range. (Receive 30% off Galaxy Z Fold5 Online Exclusive Colours from 12:00am (AEST) 14 Sept 2023 to 11:59pm (AEST) 24 Sept 2023. Discount will be applied automatically to the cart.)

Plus up-sized $450 trade in bonus (from $300 previously) until 04.10.2023 (according to the website, probably wrong)

The prices are now:
$1819.30 (256GB) - $450 bonus = $1369.30
$1959.30 (512GB) - $450 bonus = $1509.30
$2204.30 (1tb) - $450 bonus = $1754.30

So I was able to trade in my Flip 5 (512GB) to Fold 5 (256GB) for:
$1819.30
- $1190 Flip 5 trade in value
- $450 trade in bonus
= $179.30

The Flip 5 is also starting from $1154.30 (256GB) and $1294.30 (512GB) + 450 trade in bonus $350 trade in bonus

Thank you for coming to my Ted-X talk

edit: the trade in bonus is reflect after you add to cart

edit: Save more by switching to a flip 5 first

So for you it could be that:
Flip 5 (512GB) $1294 - fold 3 value $520 - $350 bonus = $424 out of pocket
Fold 5 (512GB) 1959 - flip 5 value $1190 - $450 bonus = $318 out of pocket
So total $424 + $318 = $743
So it is a $246 saving by jumping

Only issue is the time delay, may or may not miss out. Imagine if you did this after getting the S23 deal

He's right you know. We're all a victim of having the latest and greatest for no real purpose. I have a Note 10+ that's still going strong nearly 4 years later, and will only look to replace it next year due to the end of security support (I use it as BYOD for work as well) - so might time it with a discounted S23 Ultra, or see what offers there are for the S24 Ultra on release, and if it is a worthwhile difference over the S23U.

  • So I was able to trade in my Flip 5 (512GB) to Fold 5 (256GB) for:
    $1819.30
    - $1190 Flip 5 trade in value
    - $450 trade in bonus
    = $179.30

so if OP is keeping his Flip, he will be paying $179.30 today then later get charged $1,190 plus extra $60 for not returning?

    • later get charged $1,190

They would have already been charged for the value of the trade-in device at the time of purchase as a security deposit. If Samsung/Asurion doesn't receive the phone, they just keep the deposit + charge a $60 'late fee'.

If you don't plan on sending in your device (and just want the trade-in bonus), it would be easier/cheaper to just get a $1 TradeID code using any earphones in the Samsung Trade-In App.

    • Is that how it actually works? You get charged for the trade in bonus? I dont want to send in my buds only got $1 value

      • Samsung just keep the security deposit for the value of the traded-in device + $60 late fee.

If you went down the $1 buds route, just send in ANY buds (unless you specified a specificed device)

        • +1

If the trade in value is $1, they only charge $30 late fee.

          • @jimojr: Can confirm it was $30 late fee, when did a trade-in a few days ago.

Just send in any random buds, to avoid the $30 late fee.

            • @RichardL: Never done the process before, do they email you a prepaid shipping label to printout? Don't think they have a local store in QLD to do a walk-in trade.

              • +1

@vawiyoci: They send you a Prepaid AusPost Label when you receive your new device.

You just pack your old device in a box and stick the label on the box and take to local Post Office.

        • The trade up app somehow added random serial number to mine and asurion wanted me to send earbuds matching the serial number. Annoying.

          • @oranglama: Will have to wait until my new device arrives to see if mine is the same.

If it is….good luck contacting Samsung/Asurion…

          • @oranglama: @oranglama what happened with your earbud trade? I just noticed mine also has a random serial.

      • They would have already been charged for the value of the trade-in device at the time of purchase as a security deposit.

        That is correct

    • Hi,
Trade in value of my old phone is $1.
So how does trade in bonus works??
In cart i see the full value.
      Thanks

    • Flip 5 is new, u already trading it?

    • +1

When you receive your fold 5 (256gb), trade it in for a fold 5 (1tb) and pay only an extra $54

  • Yep, time to trade in the daughters flip4 for a flip 5. Considering also my s23+ for the fold 5
Edit: Do these come with a year of Care+? Need to wait for my son to get home from school to log in to edu.

    • What is the difference you have to pay to trade in flip 4 for flip 5?

      • Looks like around $250
Edit: make that $350 with revised trade-in bonus

      • +1

Just sell your flip4 to mobilemonsters or any other company to get better value and trade a pair of headphones to get the bonus trade in value. I just bought flip 4 for $1119-$350 trade in bonus-$1 headphone value = $803 and I am selling my flip4 for $600, so all up, $203 to swap flip4 to flip5.

For bluetooth headphone: just buy $10 worth from reject shop or kmart. $213 altogether.

    • No, the complimentary 1 year Care+ is no longer part of the deal

  • Is samsung education store like apple? Do they do id checks?

    • All you need a .edu email to sign up and verify a Samsung Education Account.

    • +4

Yes, need an email ending with edu.au
Can use your kids school emails if you have one i.e. kid πŸ™‚

    • You need to verify edu email.
They also cancel your edu account if found a duplicate in standard store

  • Could anyone please check the value of a s22+ 128gb?

  • cheaper after cashback

    • +1

      No cashback on edu store

      • hmm really? I received an email from cashreward after purchased saying it was successful.

        use rugged phone

      • Samsung does do a verification periodically i.e. after every few months/quarters. So can be tricky

        • Does it matter if you've bought the phone with the .edu email already? Asking for a friend.

      • Where did you buy it from? Does it have to be edu.au or can it be american edu?

On my EPP the website text is saying "$300", but if you go all the way through checkout it applies correctly (450 for Fold5 and 350 for Flip5)

  • I'm on the Edu portal and it's showing only $300 bonus trade in?

  • Its $450 bonus but you have to buy the exclusive color blue or gray.

    • Yeah I've tried that but can't seem to get it to work. Will keep having a go.

      • +1

        $450 only shows at checkout

        • Thanks for that, you're correct. Typical Samsung lol

Just a PSA re Asurion for those who aren't aware

They have gone from not charging your card unless you didn't return the phone you promised to charging it upfront for the trade in value of your phone (not including bonuses), and so then the risk is on you if something goes wrong and it's in their discretion as to whether they return that charge if they're satisfied you sent what you said you would.

I'm in the middle of a bit of a nightmare with them. Traded in an iPhone for nearly $1000 through Samsung trade in for a Fold 5, they charged that $1000 to my credit card, I posted the phone per their instructions and then a few days later they told me I sent a different phone. When I went into the Trade page, there was photos on that Trade ID of an iPhone XS I'd traded in a month before that with Vodafone in store (3 weeks before I even traded in with Samsung)

It's clear Asurion somehow mixed up these two phones and now they won't refund my $1000, nor will they return the $1000 iPhone as they say only an iPhone XS arrived. The IMEI on the Vodafone trade ID shows the IMEI of the iPhone XS Asurion have uploaded pics of into the Samsung trade page for my $1000 iPhone.

Now they won't refund my $1000, nor will they send that iPhone back. Instead, they say they'll send my iPhone XS worth $200 back so I am out of pocket $1000 PLUS my $1000 iPhone

Just a heads up - these things happen with Asurion

    • +1

This is why you don't risk trading-in high value phone.

      • +1

yep and use revolut disposable credit card, so they can't charge $60 late fee…

    • Yeah, having to deal with Asurion is a massive downside to these deals.

    • also for me long time ago they charge my cc after 11 months.. yeah… totally scambags

    • +1

      jesus (profanity) christ

    • +1

Agree their systems are very strange. I did a trade in bonus but didn't send in a phone because it got damaged, I spoke to them about it and they charged me for not sending the phone.
A few months later when I had fixed it I used the same phone for another trade in bonus and sent it in. A few months go by and they email me asking for card details so they can credit me back.

  • Has anyone had luck with any other further discount vouchers like $50 newsletter or 10% loyalty? The newsletter one does not seem to work on the edu site.

  • So its cheaper to buy a flip 5 then trade it in?

  • stack with newsletter code?

    • doesn't work on edu store it seems

  • +3

In theory this is a good deal. But the OP is trading a Flip 5? That is a brand new device.

    A more common swap would be a trade-in of my current Fold 3 512GB for a Fold 5 512GB.

    $1959.30 (512GB) - $450 bonus = $1509.30
    - $520 trade-in value for Fold 3 512GB = $989.30

So $1000 for some better cameras and 18g less weight.

Then I have to go through the hassle to buy an .edu email address (why Samsung, why), find a case again, and they charge stupid prices for a bit of plastic for the Folds. Then change my popsocket over….

Not saying it's not a good deal, and my warranty is about to expire on the Fold 3…. which is concerning.

If you are not yet a convert to the Fold, then I recommend it 100%, I was ambivalent before using one.

    • If you are not yet a convert to the Fold, then I recommend it 100%

Agree. I actually came from Fold 3 before going to Flip 5 just to try the form factor. The tiny body is great, but I really do miss the big screen.

As @Amr911 pointed out it will cost you less if you trade in for a Flip 5 then use that to go to a Fold 5 (which is what I did eventually)

      • Assumes they allow 2 bonuses on your acc.

  • +5

If you traded flip5 for flip5 you could earn money ;) ~340

    • Inception

    • +1

That's pretty good. Flashbacks of the Flip 4 JB deal.
Don't think Samsung will pay out $340. Slip in some accessories to make up the difference.

  • +3

$414.30 total to pay to trade my fold4 1tb to fold5 256gb. I'll hold out and do it next year for the fold6, fold5 is a small upgrade to the fold4

    • If you can be bothered, trade in for a flip 5 then retrade in for a Fold 5..

Based on some complicated maths it's about $170 to upgrade this way 🀣

      • Wow….but would be a nightmare dealing with Asurion twice!
Also waiting on getting the flip 5 first in hand…samsung could change the deal by then

  • $800 trade in value for the S23 Ultra πŸ˜‚

    • -1

yikes, can definitely sell that for 1200+ privately. you could buy the new phone you want and not send your S23U and they'll charge you $860 and you can sell it privately for much more to cover it

      • It's pretty bad, but I guess if you can get the $450 trade in bonus it brings it more in line with what you could get privately, but without the hassle of Scumtree or Facebook Scamplace.

      • +1

Lol seriously? I got mine for $829 all up from the samsung store, brand new. I wont buy one second hand for $1200

  • +3

Wow z fold 4 is only 880… oh well it's not worth the upgrade anyway . I'll hold on for a little more

    • It actually went up in trade value. I've traded a month ago and it was $805 (512GB model). I would never have imagine the price to go up as time goes on.
