  • 135,000rpm

For a 2cm radius (based on the image of the motor I saw, so very rough) that means the outside edge of the impeller is travelling at about 1000km/h. What hell?!

    • -1

Simply breathtaking engineering from Dyson, once again. Technically speaking, the neodymium magnets create a reality distortion field that really, really sucks

    • +1

A story from back when it was only 104,000rpm

    • 1015.2kph to be exact, sounds really suss, unless it's smaller then 4cm in diameter

      • +1

        Than*

        • Th(a/e)n*

  • Hmm, it seems that T&C only mentions “447809-01 Dyson Gen5outsize™ Complete, 447650-01 - Dyson Gen5outsize™ Absolute”, but not Gen5Detect

    • +4

From the Cashrewards page, the items listed are ineligible for cashback. Dyson Gen5detect Absolute is not listed there, so it is eligible for cashback.

      See here

      • +3

Sorry, mate. You are right; that's an ineligible list. I must have been too sleepy.

    • +2

It just means those particular models are excluded from cashback. The Gen5detect that OP posted is eligible since it isn’t specified in the T&Cs

    • Those are the SKUs that are excluded. The Gen5Detect's SKU 443066-01 isn't listed there.

  • +1

    Great vacuum, highly recommended.

    • +1

My only concern is its weight, and this is why I haven't bought it yet. What is your opinion about that?

      • +3

If you’re dragging it along the floor, not so much an issue. If you’re lifting it up, then take it as your exercise.

        • and it gets heavier the more you use it !!

          • @shmahoo: LOL. why?!
I thought it should be the opposite, it's like gym, the more exercise, the lighter the weight :D

    • I was luck enough to grab one with the last discount offer, and completely agree. If you have shedding pets and carpet, this is ideal!

  • Wish there was an offer like this for the Dyson hp09 air purifier.

    • +1

Robust protection from formaldehyde is priceless — don’t wait for an offer when you’re dying a little more each day without it

      • +2

        Dying for a bargain!

      • +3

Can’t say if you’re being sarcastic or not.

  • +1

How much of this is an upgrade over a V8? For an apartment, have been debating keeping the V8 and adding in a Robot…or this.

    • +1

Been using one of these for a year or two and love it. The laser is a game changer for hard floors, makes it super easy to spot the dust/dirt/dog hair and it’s honestly kind of fun

      • +1

I am tempted to sticky tape a torch over my V11 but i paid a fractionally less price 6 months ago so great price for this.

    • It depends on your flooring. We have a dog who sheds during warm weather. On hard floors, a robot was perfect because we could set it going daily and it minimised our manual vacuuming; we even got by with our old Dyson dc34 stick vac.

We moved to a place with carpets, and the robot was no longer sufficient to get all the fur out, and the old stick vac was near useless. So we had to upgrade to this vacuum (which is excellent for fur on carpet). I think if you have hard floors, Dyson gen 5 is probably overkill, and your quality of life would be much improved with a robot vacuum - consider one that self-empties!

  • Tempting but I already have a v12 with 2 batteries which is sufficing.

  • How practical is it to use these stick vacuum to vacuum high places (like fan vent/grills)? Is it a bit heavy to lift upwards?

    • If you’re reasonably strong it’s possible. I’ve only ever cleaned bits of cobwebs off the cornices and it’s ok for that

  • +1

V10 Absolute going for $690.05 after cashback if your budget doesn't allow for the Gen5detect

    • Wouldn't recommend the V10.
The trigger broke on mine after 3 years, seems to be a design problem. There are a number of videos on the internet about the trigger replacement.
Not sure if they have fixed this issue now.

      • Funny u mention this. My in-laws had to have their v10 trigger fixed (at no cost) by Dyson after 5 years.
Lot of videos suggesting same issue with v11.
Hopefully since it became the "Cyclone" v10 the trigger is tougher.

  • -2

    Hey guys,
Any one knows if Dyson V8 also eligible for the this offer?

    • +4

V8 absolute comes down to $569.05 then drops more with cashback. Just go to the site, choose your model and enter the code…takes 2 minutes.

  • Can you still get the cashback if you use Afterpay? Thank you.

  • Does dyson offer replacement warranty at an extra cost?

  • +1

Tempting, record low price. But would wait for a bundle including a dock, hopefully a deal comes up leading up to shopping season.

  • 1k for a hand held vacuum ?…..ok

    • What is an acceptable price?

      • +1

Mine cost $50 and probably achieves at least 75% of the tasks & efficiency this $1000 vacuum does. Unless you're a professional cleaner or have OCD there's a hard limit to how much value you can get from increasingly good/expensive vacuum cleaners.

        • +2

Same argument with phones and cars and laptops and houses and basically everything else in life

          • @illusion99: I agree. I'd rather a society where 20 people have a $50 vacuum than 1 person has a $1000 vacuum - a lot more people are doing a lot more effective cleaning with the same amount of money. Similar to how housing one homeless person can save their life, for the cost of some multimillionaire's storage space or study that never gets used.

            • +1

@3rdStageOfGrief: But then the companies selling the $1000 vacuum can afford to hire and support thousands of people. Same as how building the multimillionaires houses gives a lot of tradies income and jobs. So if companies weren't making profit, lot of people would be unemployed

              • @illusion99: 20 x $500k houses employs the same amount of labour as one $10m house

                • @3rdStageOfGrief: Does 20 x $500k houses also take up the same land as one $10m house?

                  • -1

@illusion99: they take $10m worth of land, so yes

                    • -1

                      @3rdStageOfGrief: must be tiny houses

                      • @illusion99: it's $10m worth of houses

                        • +1

@3rdStageOfGrief: I understand. Just like a 100k car is 10 times bigger than one 10k car

                          • @illusion99: no, because cars aren't priced by size. ten $10k cars cost the same amount of labour as one $100k car, and provide ten people with the ability to travel without public transport, vs. allowing one person to travel in luxury.

                            • @3rdStageOfGrief: So every building that is the exact same size cost the same to build?

                              • @illusion99: no. $10m worth of land costs the same as $10m worth of building labour & materials. $10m worth of housing for one house costs the same as $10m worth of housing for twenty $500k houses.

                                • @3rdStageOfGrief: so $10m worth of land in the middle of nowhere is the same size as $10m worth of land in the CBD?

                                  • @illusion99: no. $10m worth of land in the middle of nowhere is worth the same as $10m worth of land in the CBD

                                    • @3rdStageOfGrief: Can you build 20 houses on 10m worth of land in the CBD?

                                      • @illusion99: no matter whether you build in the middle of nowhere or in the CBD, if you build 20 houses at a total cost of $10m, those 20 houses will be worth $500k each

                                        • @3rdStageOfGrief: What happens if 10 of those houses are double the size of the other 10 houses?

                                          • @illusion99: all else being equal, the double-sized houses will be worth $666k and the half-sized houses will be worth $333k

                                            • @3rdStageOfGrief: What happens if one of those houses has a beach front view and the other houses overlook a graveyard?

                                              • @illusion99: their total value will add up to $10m

                                                • @3rdStageOfGrief: If the land cost $10m, won't the houses be worth more than $10m given before it was just empty and now there are houses on it?

                                                  • @illusion99: there will be $10m worth of housing. the value of housing is the sum of land and structures built upon that land.

                                                    • @3rdStageOfGrief: What if I use cheap materials for the 20 houses and really expensive materials for the 1x10m house?

                                                      • @illusion99: they will both still be worth $10m

                                                        • @3rdStageOfGrief: but the 1 x house cost me $30m to build because I used imported Italian marble and the timber from an 10000 year old tree. And the 20 x houses I used plywood and paper and all up it cost me $5m to build.

                                                          • @illusion99: you specified it was a "1x10m house", which means the house cost $10m, not $30m. the 20 houses that are collectively worth the same as the $10m house are worth $500k, and if it cost $5m to build that means the land cost $5m

                                                            • @3rdStageOfGrief: What if one person really really loved one of the 20x houses and was willing to pay $20m just for that one house?

                                                              • @illusion99: the house would still be worth $500k

                                                                • @3rdStageOfGrief: Isn't the market dictated by what people will pay? Otherwise why do house prices increase?

                                                                  • -1

@illusion99: the market price is an aggregate of an entire society's average value which people place on a given commodity. if sellers thought that enough people would want to buy the house for more than $500k, and if enough other people were willing to buy the house for more than $500k, the sellers would price the house higher, and the buyers would buy at that higher price, and thus the house would be worth more than $500k. but this house, as we have previously established, is worth exactly $500k. that's what sellers think the house is worth to others, and that's what buyers think the house is worth to themselves. that's what "worth" is.

                                                                • +1

@3rdStageOfGrief: All points aside, I had a healthy chuckle reading this entire exchange. Meme level responses haha.

  • +1

How strong of a suction do you really need? I've noticed some of the "dirt" in my Dyson is in fact just fibres from the carpet.

    • If you can afford a Dyson, then you can afford to replace your carpet every couple of years. If it lasts that long, with your Dyson munching on it, that is

  • +1

The green light on the hard floor attachment is amazing for highlighting dust. Shows me that my robot vac isn't getting everything.
Maybe avoid if you're OCD about clean floors or you'll be vacuuming twice a day with the green light!

Great vac and can recommend. Yes it could be lighter but pros outweigh cons IMO.

  • is this compatible with that submarine head?

    • No it isn't.

  • +1

Anyone recommend an appropriate stand for this vacuum?

I bought that stand a couple of weeks ago when I received my Gen5Detect.
There’s no power point where I wanted to place the Dyson, so I was not after anything fancy.
I’m very happy with the stand, it holds the Dyson along with all the attachments without any issues.

    • +1

Would go for Dyson dock: https://www.dyson.com.au/floor-dok-multi-972214-03

We have the V10 with dock bundle, so waiting for a similar deal.

The dock being an accessory, it's excluded from 10%CR, but the 5% discount code works. I would order it separately, not to stuff up the main cashback, free shipping anyway.

    • You can buy a multidok stand that is specific to gen 5, which has charging dock and room for accessories. Got a tip from an earlier deal to call or message them to order it. Apparently, there is currently low stock so it's not available to order from the website.

      • Can confirm. Ordered this morning via their chat. $149 delivered.

  • worth upgrading from v11?

  • +1

    good price cheers op

  • Is anyone using the mop attachment on Dysons? Does it work ? Anyone would recommend ?

    • +1

Wouldn't think it will work too well, mopping usually involves frequent rinse with water. It will require a lot more microfibre pads to swap around to clean large areas.

    • +1

You are better off with the submarine line if you want mopping action. The third party attachments hasn't been the best.

  • +1

Back in stock but only 6% cash back

  • might be worth looking into getting the Ultimate Gift Card (Home) for 15% off and getting from TGG (price beat online store at check out to $987 popped up on my phone) and with 15% off gift card it works out the same as this deal without the hassle of cash back.
