For anyone not already in the ring ecosystem, they are currently in the limiting features & pushing people to lock into subscription services stage of smart platform death.

Unless you are already in deep with amazon/ring, id recommend researching alternatives.

  • Does anyone know if Jb-hifi offer the same return policy with Amazon? "Try Ring for 30 days. If you don't love send it, send it back for a refund."

I have 3 devices (doorbell, floodlight camera, stick up cam), it is a bit expensive @ ~$150/year ($12.5/month), i think the negativity around the subscription is pretty overstated.

The app is wife friendly, there's 3 months of video history in the cloud with all the events neatly organised, there isn't any stuffing around with maintenance (aside charging batteries very irregularly) and most importantly everything just 'works'.

I don't waste time 'fixing' things trying to save some money by DIY hosting or using different products / subscriptions across the house. The set & forget aspect is excellent.

We’ve got the Doorbell 3 and installed a Spotlight Battery Plus on Saturday.

Although the yearly subscription is $150 for multiple devices, I’m not fussed because the 4 pack of Spotlight Plus are currently $989 at Amazon, and I paid $480 for them a week ago (new from Cash Converters)

I only required one, and I was waiting for the 40% off deal to come back at JB, but I couldn’t turn down 4 for $480, so I’ll probably just end up splitting them ($120 each) with a few mates.

Either way, I prefer the ease of no base station and a very user friendly app, so the subscription was never a deal breaker for me, and let’s be honest, it’s for the safety of your family and your property

PS: The $150 sub also extends the warranty on all connected devices
