I did this back in July. It's pretty straightforward and well worth doing. Some tips:

    • They might play dumb and try to get you to sign up to one of the expensive tourist plans. Just insist you want the SIM card ONLY.
    • Once your 24 hrs (or 2GB) is used up, go for a local data plan (see *555#). Prices are very reasonable (and in FJD).
    • Prior to purchasing a plan (by dialing *555#), I used this link to add balance to my account.
    • MVP!

    • Above sums it up well. Local recharge is readily available anffor F20$ gives you sufficient data. If you are making use of local calling tgen go Vodafone. If data then Digicel may give more data.

  • Digicel also has a storefront at arrivals where you could get a free sim as well. Can't recall the specifics but wasn't a lot of data or time.

tbh, with all the faffing about, I'm finding their $5/day roaming to be quite attractive

    • $10 a day (assuming telstra)

      • $10 a day (assuming telstra)

        $15/week on Telstra prepaid.

    • Might as well go for an esim at that point, if your phone can support it. Significantly cheaper without needing to mess around finding a store selling sims.

  • do you just need to present your passport, or do they scan it or something?

    • I'm pretty sure they just document your details, but I have to admit I don't really remember.

  • How to find out your number on their service? Not sure what's my number for recharge.

  • Just a tip, they will ask you how long you are staying in Fiji, just say overnight.

Digicell refused me a sim when I said a week, so I went to voda who still tried to put me in rip off tourist plan. He wsndt happy but he gave me the free sim and I followed Homebrew advice above and got my cheap plan. Remember when playing with credit cards you may need a text verification.

I thought I'd add my experience. It's a lovely offer but when I've been there (twice) each time they have been out of SIM cards - so be aware of that! Nowadays I usually use an e-SIM (Airalo). Also if you are heading off to the islands, be aware that many don't have reception (for better or worse)…

    • Worked for me :) They did scan my passport at the store.

This comment is an advertisement. Vodafone you can get 30gb for $9 FJD = $6 Aussie. Airolo is $30 USD ($45 AUD) for 5gb.

I'm not associated with airalo or any other sim company. It's good to know you can get cheaper elsewhere, just reporting what I used when I went there.

Tried getting this when I landed on the 8th of March, and they simply refused that they had anything like this. I showed them on the website, but they said only with a $10 recharge… hope others have a better result.

    • had a similar outcome in october last year, our plane was a bit late and they wouldn't give us any sims unless we were going to load them with money.

    • Had this experience with Digicel funnily enough who straight up refused. Vodafone was reluctant to give the sims without any upfront recharge but when I showed them the website they eventually gave them to us.

    • This is because they dont make any commission from you so they dont want to help you. Guarantee they have the sims they are just trying to get you to either give up and go away or give up and buy something. Kinda typical tourist B.S which you get in every country these days.

I'm sure if you kept pushing you might get somewhere but who wants to right after a flight.

Vodafone really sucked when I was in Fiji, I was on Taveuni island and the coverage was very sparce.

  • Anyone know if either Vodafone or Digicel offer e-sims for tourist?
