These never feel like sales anymore, just temporary price drops if their monitors aren't selling enough. It's nice of them, but I'm wanting a little more sometimes (aka the u3011 for $999 would be amazing). Still, this is good enough for most of us, so who am I to complain :)

    • Yes they just need to break the psychological $1000 price point on the 30".

holy moly…who in their right mind would pay $1700 for a monitor…

I've been wanting to get the 30" for some time and keep looking for the right deal, it's still far too much for a monitor but I write this looking at my 24" dell I got 5+ years ago as a bulk buy off whirlpool for pretty much the same price and while it hurt to pay the cash, I have never questioned its value.

Anyway, its a good deal as the 30" does not frequently get included in their sales.

p.s first deal posted so let em rip!

Isn't 30 inches far too big for a monitor though??

We've got a 32" panasonic LCD in the lounge room still. It must be 6yrs old now. Can't imagine sitting in front of it, on ozbargain.

    • No, cause the resolution is higher than full HD. You use it as you would like dual/triple/quad monitor setups.

      • ok cool. But I'm not really talking about the resolution. I'm talking about the size of the thing.

Having said that, I'm using a 24" samsung LED right now. I expect that another 6" won't kill me.

        • i made the switch from 24" to 30" and it's surprising how quickly you get used to it

that said i still find 24" to be a little more comfortable to look at.

I expect that another 6" won't kill me.

If only ladies felt that way about Jonah Falcon.

        • I have the 3007WFP and yes, sometimes I do miss things that are in the corners, for example I play CS:GO and sometimes if I forget to check how much ammo I currently have I won't see that I am almost empty because it sits so far in the corner of the screen and is still quite small as the pixel density is still quite good, this has caused me to find custom hud's for quite a few games. There are quite a few situations similar to that which happen to me maybe once every 3 or 4 days in various tasks.

  • Sadly there isn't much competition in this bracket, really this or the (quite good) HP. Works great, but if they bring out a new one without the horrible anti glare coating mine will be on ebay day 1.

Don't forget your Buckscoop / Starthere cashback!

If your warranty is expired, you throw a damp towel on the panel for about 5 hours and peel off the anti glare film. Done it to my u2311 long time ago

      • WTF? why would you? {shakes head}

        • because the anti glare diffracts light and creates the rainbowing effect? Shiny panels are always more vibrant, aslong as you can control the ambient light in the room.

Agree on the lack of competition - I own both a 3011 and 2711

Given the prices of decent 27" monitors these days (Less than $300 at Officeworks) I would pass on the 2711.

The 3011 is big and beautiful - though when my first unit failed I was disappointed they replaced it with a refurb unit, not a new one…

      • Agree its a great monitor. Comes with individual cilibration report from the factory.

Why not just buy a 50 inch 3d led tv and use it as a monitor, it's cheaper

    • +1

      Example?

I assume it wouldn't be IPS technology and wouldn't present colours as 'accurately'.
These are proper monitors, designed for professional use as listed already above.

As for 50", there may be issues with radiation, heat, power consumption, space/desk fit, eyeball bleeding and it probably won't have the truly worthwhile Dell monitor stand.

      (p.s i didn't neg your comment)

      • The new Panasonic LED TV's are IPS. They look amazing with console games, blu-ray and HDTV. I havent hooked up a PC though. Computer monitors are tweaked to display text better because of the smaller pixel pitch.

it's not the size that matters

  • Can anyone tell me if the U2412M has -any- noise coming from it? Especially at lower brightness?

My old samsung 2333 whines if I turn the brightness down, enough to be noticeable.
Apparently this was fairly normal with monitors around that time.. it's the capacitors I assume.

    • +1

no, not on my 4 month old unit, LOVE IT!!!

    • +4

the only whining I got was when I told the wife I spent $700 on a monitor :P

  • well the catleap 30" is only around 600-650 but sounds like it's not uncommon to get a dead pixel or two with these units

anyone else have any experience with them?

    • I got the 27", no dead pixels

  • Since when is 2560 x 1600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio called Full HD ?

The U3011 is a bargain for sure

  • Does anyone know anything about this 30" LG W3000H from Computer Alliance for $895?

    • Interesting. LG produce the panels for the high end Dell monitors. Thats the first time I've seen a high end LG branded monitor. I would assume the panel is the same but I notice the one in your link is missing a few video inputs compared to the Dell. Looks like a good buy though.
