Mahindra PikUp S11 Dual Cab 4x4 with Bull Bar and Snorkle $39,990 Drive Away @ Mahindra Automotive Dealers

850

Bullbar snorkel and heavy duty tray seems like a good deal compared to the LDV at similar price point, driven the ldv and it feels very rough

            • @h0mbre: Agree, Musso like a lot of other Korean offerings, are a good bang for buck. The biggest hurdle is an aesthetic which grates with a lot of western viewpoints. I think they are addressing that

      • As opposed to forking out $60k on a ranger only to have its gearbox sh1t itself like they all do?

Is this really as common as you say? We have 6 of them at work that have all clocked 200,000km each and they still run like they are new and none of them have had that problem.

        • Yep
enough for there to be a class action about them it's extremely well documented.

          • @Drakesy: Bloody hell. At least that’s my works problem and not mine lol. Cheers for the clarification :)

    • +2

These Mahindras can keep up with harsh use on farms. They're built for work, not play.

    • -4

Stop being racist and ignorant first. These may be Chinese or Indian companies but they are buying stakes in international auto makers and hiring many folks from those places.

Labour is cheaper in those countries and so it will be cheap and of course they can't price it at the level of Toyota's as the sticker price includes brand value which these don't have.

You do know that Mahindra used to own a large chunk of SsangYong until recently.

    • Toyota was in the same basket as these brand back in the day…
Bloody jap crap is all Nissan and Toyota were referred to. Then Korean, now Indian
For the cost of a set of ARB intensity driving lights and bull bar, not fitted, you can service and fuel this car for a year.

Seems 'Roothy' has sold his arse to Mahindra. What happened to the old Landcruiser?

    • +8

He probably realised it was slow, uncomfortable, and didn't perform any better than a cheap modern offering.

    • "Seems 'Roothy' has sold his arse" No-one else wanted it

    • He's been bought and paid for almost as long as I have been alive.

  • +6

Damn, this actually seems like crazy good value. People trash cheap cars but honestly, they do the job. Driven LDV's and Tata's and they are both cheap 4bies, but go off-road no worries. Also driven Toy yoda's lux and cruisers on and off-road, and yes they're quality, but they all do the same thing. Big saving and allows people who don't have hundreds of thousands of disposable income to enjoy some off road fun too.

Can anyone see if tow bar comes stock with this beast? I've downloaded the brochure but can't see it, perhaps I'm just having a boy look?

    • +2

Yeah looks alright as a bush basher / beach warrior

      • +12

Exactly mate, why drop 100k+ on something you plan to absolutely thrash in the dunes and on the tracks, when you could do it in this and save 60k toward a home deposit (obvs not in Syd or Melb, but it still helps), or overseas travel, or something else to spend your money on? Idk, I get the argument for Toyota in regards to quality, but we have to admit at the same time, there is a brand name tax paid the same as Apple or RM Williams. They're great products, but the price point isn't for the average Joe.

    • -6

whist $39K, this will cost more than a $100K landcruiser due to depreciation.

      the landcruiser is cheaper.

      • +16

        That's… Not how depreciation works

        • +2

Haha forgot the ‘I’m not an economist’ standard post disclaimer

        • +3

I think Matt is assuming this depreciates to say $0 after 5 years whereas the $100k Land cruiser depreciates to… still $100k.
Anyway I agree with you, you'd need to be mad to spend $61k more of actual today dollarydoos to try save imaginary potential future money.

        • +1

Weird .. everyone agrees with my first depreciation comment, then disagrees with this one.

      • +4

And after 5 years the 60k you saved would be worth 100k if thrown into a diverse index fund giving a 10% return. The opportunity cost is immense.

    • +5

Yep. Have had an LDV T60 since they first came out in 2017. Other than the low rent plasticky interior and a few quirks with the integrated climate control/entertainment system, it hasn't missed a beat. The engine is solid and it's done what I've needed it to do for 6 years. Paid $36k all up including towbar and tint. Would've paid half again or more for a Ranger or Hilux, can't say they'd have done much better in the role.

    • You could probably just write off as tax for work if you are a tradie needing one of these.

Roothy approved it so must be good :-P

    • Guy must be on hard times. Shame.

  • +6

Perfect inner city car for driving the kids to school.

    • +1

The inner city dropoff crowd wouldn't be caught dead in a Mahindra lol

      • +2

Need a Merc GLS or Range Rover LWB. BMW X7 is also a great choice to cart about your single child and handbag/man satchel.

  • +3

    Red rage

    Perfect colour for road rage.

  • +11

When you order a cruiser on Wish

  • +3

Would get a gwm cannon or an ldv t60 over this butt ugly thing anyday. Admittedly the bull bar makes it look somewhat better.

7 year warranty as well and could probably buy the bull bar separately and come out ahead

  • Aren't these made in India? No thanks

    • +2

Why not may i ask ?

    • …and your point is? I don’t see how it’s any different than other low-cost imports from other countries.

    • +8

Definitely endurance checked. As you know India definitely provides for tough driving conditions both on road and off road real life tests. These things last forever in India so Australia must be a cake walk .

      • +1

        This

    • -1

There’s some great products that come out of India these days.

    • Hilux made in Thailand

  • -8

Guys, as much as this looks amazing (I seriously like the look), this will be very expensive with depreciation and a $100K landcruiser will actually be cheaper when you look at the total cost of ownership.

    • +1

total cost of ownership (assuming what you claim is true) only works if you can afford it.

    • +2

I'd be surprised if that's true. Just taking the 60k and putting it in a 5 year term deposit right now at 4 percent PA nets you $14,000. Even with the highly generous assumption that your cruiser doesn't depreciate at all, 14k should cover 5 years of depreciation. Decent warranty on both will have running costs similar if not Mahindra favoured.

Only time I could see the cruiser making more financial sense would be if you're somewhere really remote where there's lots of cruiser parts available.

  • Should i buy this or buy an used pajero sport?

  • Thanks for sharing! What a ugly car! OMG

  • +6

Like someone said before, you don't have to buy them if you don't like them or you think they are not good value for your money but do appreciate more competition can only be good for consumers in the long run. The more the better, looking forward to seeing more competitons.

  • +1

    Great car. Would buy

  • +3

Realisable value 21k in 18 months

Supply chains are back to normal for major brands, they are just supplying to order instead of to stock at dealerships.

Expect prices for others to drop as volumes i crease particularly in second hand cars 3-5 years old

shot op and toke my moneyss 💰

  • i was going to get a land cruiser 70, but this is such a great deal. what do i do? this any good.

    • Test drive it you may hate it or love it

    • you cant get a 70 series unless second hand and over-priced, so why are you considering that option?

  • +2

My mate has one and i took it for a drive. Its actually really nice even has apple car play. If it was between this or a toyota camry or a subaru forester I would take this for sure.

    • wtf, lol. you are comparing apples and oranges. a front wheel drive car vs a 4x4 truck?

      • +2

Because it's in the same price range..

  • +1

Jeez, that's a shit looking truck. But I guess there's a market for it - strange as it is.

  • Can buy a brand new model Ford Ranger for that price. Massive No

  • -2

What a god awful looking car. These Indians really set the bar low on looks and quality. This one looks like a pre assembled kit car. Avoid them like the plague so indian manufactured crap can f straight out of Aus market. Atleast the Chinese can make their cars look good and load in some interesting tech in them.

  • This or a Bewgatti vayron

  • This is or toy car from bigw. Looks like junk from India.

  • Forget about Mahindra, ldv or great wall. Get Korean Ssangyong Musso.
Great quality reliable ute and very nice interior. Very good value.

    • I thought Mahindra actually owned SsangYong? I could be wrong though.

      • +1

They once owned, but disowned them during rhe covid time. Now its bought by kg group n SsangYong has been renamed to kg mobility.

        • Good to know, thanks.

    • Most people would have heard or experienced how unreliable and badly supported Ssangyong has been in the past.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice…

  • Is this FBT excempt?

    • The same FBT rules apply on this as on other utes.

    • +1

How do you feel about tradies rocking up decked out in Chinese work gear and with Chinese tools?

    • +1

Goes for this or any other Indian/Chinese junker really

      Do suggest an Australian junker.

  • That snorkel isn't water tight, what's the point of it?

    • Same as Toyota. Google that one too.

  • The Scorpio Z8 is nicer….

  • +4

This has raised my eyebrows, I think I will be visiting a dealership for a test drive.

  • -4

Rather buy a LDV than some unknown brand cheep knock off from India

  • has anyone calculated the load carrying capacity of this one?

weird that they advertise this as a work pack, but don't list the load carrying capacity for this bundle.
