    Is it a deal? I don't mind paying ~$220 for a newer model if I'm spending $1,650.

    • +10

No, you are right. While the ultimate gift cards 15% discount the iPhone pro max for $1870 is around this isn't so good

      • +1

My plan is to purchase iPhone 15 Pro Max within the Ultimate GC + TRS claim period and that would be the best buy/ path at this stage, you won't get any better deal after this until the new iPhone releases.

Unless if 14 Pro Max is 25% more discount from the current RRP, that would have to be reconsidered.

        • How do you work the TRS refund on re-entry, I thought you have to declare it on re-entry now and $1700 (if it was cheaper it would be a non issue) is above the duty free limit. I guess just dont declare but could run into a fine. Only reason I ask is I was planning on doing the same

          • @Voucherd: In my case, I am within the concessions, I have my family travelling so I m good but honestly, they don't really check unless you got super unlucky they asked you, I did buy almost $9k stuff and they flagged me during my claim last trip, but when I got back, no one actually asked or I got flag in anyway upon reentry.

            • +1

@cloudie9: Thanks for the reply, i know they have changed policy a couple of times over the last 2 years

        • +2

I would still be careful. I'm an Aussie living permanently overseas, and every time I visit and leave using the TRS, I get grilled and warned that if I don't declare it upon my return, they'll know.

          From their page:

Return to Australia with goods subject to the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) provisions
You must declare any goods you bring back to Australia, for which a TRS claim was made by you or another person when the goods left Australia.
On returning to Australia, you must declare the goods at Question 3 on your Incoming Passenger Card (IPC)
Penalties may apply if you fail to declare these items
If you bring goods back into Australia for which a GST refund via the TRS has been claimed, the goods must be declared, and if the value of those goods (combined with any other overseas/duty free purchases) exceeds the passenger concession allowance, any applicable GST and/or duty may need to be paid unless another concession (e.g. all personal clothing – except furs) is available.

          • @drewbles:

            upon my return

Have they actually pulled you up on it whenever you return though?

            • @vawiyoci: I've heard they've done that for wedding rings many times, not sure about iPhones.

              • @netsurfer: I guess worse case scenario is that you have to pay it back on re-entry, so its worth claiming regardless (I also heard that the value drops because its not brand new but second hand). I'm unsure of the penalties if you dont declare, but im assuming more than a couple hundred dollars.

                • @Voucherd: Apparently it's just the original GST plus a bunch of admin fees on top but no fines, though have read comments where they simply can't even be bothered and simply wave you through since there's the tax free allowance threshold anyway.

              • @netsurfer: Well have read comments on whirlpool or elsewhere that they might sternly warn you that they'll leave a note in the system for the custom agent to check you upon return but then nothing actually ever happened, so it might be an empty threat or they just forget to do it depending on your entry declaration and whether you're unlucky enough to get randomly pulled for an inspection.

                • @vawiyoci: I have done TRS for Iphone 14 max pro this year and declared on return and they just thanked me and waved me past.

                  • @polar: So you claim TRS on, say $1600.

Then use it overseas..thus halving its value as soon as it's open. Then claim $800 on return yeah?

That would be accurate / legit?

      • Which ultimate cards are 15% off and where? I need to get in this and it sounds like my search alert has missed it

    • UR right. I paid much less for superior S23 Ultra with 512GB (S-pen, USB-C 3.2 & 2yr Samsung Care+). Now it should be cheaper (particularly as S24 is coming in 4 months)

There's a very isolated video about the back glass being pretty bad on the new 15 pro max. Very anecdotal though.

    • I feel like I could crack a 14s glass if I tried snapping the phone as well

    • +14

You mean this one by JerryRigEverything: https://youtu.be/IS0SItAzEXg?feature=shared

      • Great video! That was fun to watch.

    • +3

There's a few now. Drop tests having the back glass break on the first drop, even the whole outer lens cover assembly pop off the back.

  • Thats peanuts for rich aussies

    Louis Rossmann

    C'mon folks. You're being done.

    • +1

      What does this mean?

      • +1

Apple is screwing over iPhones users and they are OK with it

      • +1

He's a YouTuber/Repairer who advocates Right To Repair and Apple scores very low in this area, seemingly getting worse instead of better.

But no one really cares, just random people on the Internet, maybe the EU at some point for some things? We'll see.

It's a noble goal but effects consumerism very very very VERY little. Buy what you like.

  • It's good if you don't have the 15% off ultimate gc.

    • +1

How to get 15% off on GC?

      • +1

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800798 - 15% off Ultimate Gift Cards.

Can only be used at "Participating retailers" listed next to the name/type of card (it declines otherwise). Once you get it, add it to a phone pay feature (e.g. Apple/Google/Samsung Pay) and buy iPhone in participating retailer (ask for split payment [so you can spend balance on multiple gift cards], and say you are using <name of phone pay service>).

  • +3

much better value than the 15plus

  • +1

Thank you op, been eyeing for a pro but even better with max at this price and dont have to worry the hassle of 15% ultimates gift cards

    • hassle of 15% ultimates gift cards

      There is no hassle.

You simply buy for 5x Home/HIM etc. $500 cards, add them to your Wallet/Google/Samsung Pay, go to JB and place an order. I think even the Wallet part is not needed.

      • the wallet part is only needed if you are buying gift cards by the gift cards.

      • Oh thanks for that, cause i read is there a change that employee now allow to use multiple gift cards, anyway, this price is much better than the same 15 and not much improvement

      • Im tossing up whether to do this or voda deal. Just a matter if you can get a 5g plan under $41 to beat it.

Doesnt anyone know if you can still ‘order’ the phone in jb if no stock and pay with gc?

  • thanks op. but wish it was the 14 pro instead. this is way too big

  • Bought today….and…already received it? What?

    • +2

Nice little office @ Sydney CBD for in person pick-up option.

  • +2

Appreciate all your comments guys. Btw there is a black version selling at $1,990 before coupon but you can message seller to ask for a reduced price $1,950. That how I got my price for the purple version.

I think we all have own opinion especially in comparison with the new 15. For me the lower price, (maybe) better durability swayed me to the 14. Hope it’ll last longer than the 8 plus I upgraded from.

    • +4

That is one hell of an upgrade from the 8 plus! My XS is still hanging in there so I'll hold off for now. Enjoy it :)

    • +1

I just upgraded from an 8 Plus too!
I went the 15 Pro Max, cause I’m hoping to either hold onto it for a few years or take advantage of decent trade in offers and discount gift cards to heavily discount a 17/18 (unlikely a 16) in the future

  • +1

With Black Friday two months away I would say wait people. Stock up on ultimate gift cards (to swap at jb hifi for Apple gift cards). Wait for cash rewards too (usually on the Friday). Good savings to be made on older models. I am going to get a MacBook as my youngest off to uni next year.

    • Agree - I got 2k worth of GCs holding out for a massive price drop on the 14 pro max !

      • Keep as gcs or transfer to jb cards?

        • +1

What do you mean jb gift cards? They are already jb gift cards, but you can exchange for Apple when/if needed.
Usually the Apple Black Friday offers offers $80 for older iPhones. Cashrewards is usually 8% up to $100. So you could say that you’ll save $180 from current Apple price. Plus take off another 15% if you get ultimate gift cards.
          So if a phone is $1500, minus 15% =$1275 -$80 (in gift card) -$100 cashrewards =$1095
It could be that jb will have a better offer, but if you can wait Black Friday that’s the best saving (by getting Apple gift card and cashrewards).

    • Does JB Hifi only sell Apple Gift Cards in store? I can't find it online?
      Thanks

      • +1

        Instore only

  • +1

Be careful with EU stock. Had an issue with a macbook purchased in the EU and Apple Sydney would only provide 1 year warranty, though both EU and AU consumer law provide 2 years. Was stuck in a grey warranty area. Buy 2 years applecare for these phones!

  • You guys can thank me for this…. Maybe I should of shared this earlier for everyone 🤔.

Can’t post photo but I asked this seller to drop it $100 for me. Then I guess he’s left it at that price.

Mine is still on its way since I asked for a black one.
Only thing I’m not sure about is that it seems that it’s not an an Aussie iPhone.

    Oh well, we’ll see :)

  • Hummm… I bought the same phone from these guys before this post, few things want to share
When I asked if its a AU stock, they replid yes, but seems it was a Chinese stock.
    1. Only 1 yr warranty after activation and some online forum mentioned have to go to China for the warranty. Contacted seller they asked me to contact them first if anything goes wrong.
    2. No esim on the iphone, its a big downside for me, and doesnt match the description. Therefore triggered my return. Still waiting for the refund but ebay rep said shouldnt be a problem

    • Only China/ Hong Kong iPhones comes with dual physical sim, have you checked? Although I am not sure if the Chinese stock are tied to China AppStore too.

  • New Ebay OCT15 code to get 15% off or $300 is released.
Opening the link in Incognito is showing I can save $300 on this item.
But at checkout it is not accepting the code.

Does anyone successfully used the new OCT15 code and received $300 off?

    • I just try and OCT15 code is working. Have you use the code before?
