How? My UTS google account got shut down before i graduated

      • +4

I went to Macquarie, maybe it works differently, but they seem to be big on the whole alumni with students interaction thing. My account never got deactivated, I asked a few of my other mates that graduated at different times and they still have their account. You bet I upload all of my travel footage, photos and docs on there.

        • I graduated from MQ too, can you tell me what to do? I still have my Google account.

I'm also a staff there so even if my student does get canceled (which probs won't), I still have my staff.

          • @I Smell Pennies: Never did anything really, the account always had an ambiguous storage amount when I used it as a student. It would always just say how much storage I was using but never what the limit was. If you take a look at your storage settings it will show you how much you have.

        • +1

If it's anything like M365, they can easily see all your files.

Different circumstances, but in our high school, we have access to all of our student's onedrives.

Could you explain how to do this?

    • How?
Google stopped the Edu unlimited storage last year.

    • +3

They haven't set individual storage limits so your just seeing all the pooled storage their google workspace has. If you filled that up nobody else could upload anything till they sorted it out lol.

Hey Bard, is this a breach of Google T&C?

The tutorial you have provided is a method to obtain 30TB of free storage on Google One until 2090. It involves creating a new Google account, adding a credit card to Google Wallet, subscribing to the 2TB/year plan, and then downgrading to the 5TB plan/year. This will give you 30TB of free storage, which you can then upgrade to the 30TB plan again. You can then repeat this process every year to keep your free storage.

Is this a breach of Google's terms and conditions?

It is not clear whether this method is a breach of Google's terms and conditions. Google's terms and conditions do not explicitly prohibit this method, but they do state that Google may take action against users who engage in activities that are "harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, invasive of another's privacy, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable." It is possible that Google could consider this method to be a form of abuse or exploitation of their services.

Is this method likely to work?

It is possible that this method may work, but there is no guarantee. Google may change their terms and conditions or their pricing structure at any time, which could make this method no longer work. Additionally, Google may detect and ban accounts that are using this method to obtain free storage.

Is this method worth the risk?

Whether or not this method is worth the risk is up to you to decide. If you are willing to risk having your account banned, then you may want to try this method. However, if you are not willing to risk losing your account, then you should not try this method.

Here are some things to consider:

If you are caught using this method, Google may ban your account. This would mean that you would lose access to all of your data stored on Google One, including your Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.
This method is complicated and time-consuming. It is also possible that Google will change their terms and conditions or pricing structure at any time, which could make this method no longer work.
There are other ways to get free storage on Google One. For example, you can get 15GB of free storage with a Google account, and you can get 100GB of free storage for two years if you purchase a new Pixel phone.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to use this method is up to you.

    • +5

This is a very long post considering you could just say that this is definitely against Google's t&c's.

If Google does notice this activity in your account, they will almost certainly temporarily or permanently ban your account. Either that or they may ban your payment profile to prevent you from ever making any purchases with the associated Google account.

It all depends on whether there is a system in place to flag an action like this, the chances of it being noticed probably increase with the number of people utilising it too.

I definitely wouldn't risk it with my primary account, and I'm not sure linking any credit card is a smart idea given it's traceability.

      • +1

This is how Bard words it. It is pretty verbose.

      • +3

This is a very long post considering you could just say "Not worth the risk. Could be banned."

        • It's the AI answer. Bard. Google's AI.

@jebdra: I'm replying to the ironically long winded reply from @lyle88 complaining that the AI reply was long winded.

  • +4

Step 7 seems to have a typo, instead of 30TB should be "Subscribe to 5TB plan".

Just to point out, you can't remove your payment method from https://payments.google.com/gp/w/home/paymentmethods, before cancelling the subcription first. You might want to make a note of how to cancel the subscription without cancelling the storage.

    • +1

Thank you! I've made the edits.

      • Works thanks, but cannot remove payment method.

You might want to make a note of how to cancel the subscription without cancelling the storage

I'm pretty sure google subscriptions can be cancelled straight away. The benefits remain until the expiry date.

The only cancellation is the auto-renewal, not the benefit.

      • Good to know. Alternatively use a disposable Revolut virtual card then terminate the card immediately after.

      • Worked out how to cancel the subscription? Can't seem to find it

        EDIT: Cancelled on my phone

        • May I ask how you cancelled it through your phone?
I’m getting asked to replace a card with another.

477.3 Unauthorised impairment of electronic communication
        (1) A person commits an offence if:
        (a) the person causes any unauthorised impairment of electronic communication to or from a computer; and
        (b) the person knows that the impairment is unauthorised.
        Penalty: 10 years imprisonment.

        CRIMINAL CODE ACT 1995
        http://www5.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/cca199511…

It's illegal. I've had threats of being charged with this offence for manipulating POST form payloads to get things for $0.01 instead of the actual price. It was dropped by prosecution as I was young and dumb, and I paid the amount(s) owed.

        • +2

I have found 2 case of that being prosecuted.

          The conduct reads:

The offences of unauthorised impairment of electronic communication involved the applicant using an off-shore website to flood the WA Police email system on two occasions with tens of thousands of spam emails, and to do the same to the NSW Police email system on one occasion. The consequence in each case was to impair the email systems for some time. The content of the emails reflected the applicant's grievance with WA Police who had seized his computer. He was sentenced to a total of 12 months' imprisonment, but was released on a bond for 12 months to be of good behaviour. In effect it was a suspended sentence.

          and

the applicant was responsible for two DDoS attacks on Aussie Broadband’s servers

This is nothing to do with system impairment.

          • @happydude: It's used in DDoS attacks usually, that's correct.

          • @happydude:

478.1 Unauthorised access to, or modification of, restricted data
            (1) A person commits an offence if:
            (a) the person causes any unauthorised access to, or modification of, restricted data; and
            (b) the person intends to cause the access or modification; and
            (c) the person knows that the access or modification is unauthorised.

            Penalty: 2 years imprisonment.

477.1 Unauthorised access, modification or impairment with intent to commit a serious offence

Intention to commit a serious Commonwealth, State or Territory offence
            (1) A person commits an offence if:
            (a) the person causes:
            (i) any unauthorised access to data held in a computer; or
(ii) any unauthorised modification of data held in a computer; or
(iii) any unauthorised impairment of electronic communication to or from a computer; and
            (c) the person knows the access, modification or impairment is unauthorised; and
            (d) the person intends to commit, or facilitate the commission of, a serious offence against a law of the Commonwealth, a State or a Territory (whether by that person or another person) by the access, modification or impairment.
            3) In a prosecution for an offence against subsection (1), it is not necessary to prove that the defendant knew that the offence was:
            a) an offence against a law of the Commonwealth, a State or a Territory; or
            (b) a serious offence.

            (6) A person who commits an offence against this section is punishable, on conviction, by a penalty not exceeding the penalty applicable to the serious offence.

Tl;DR: Fraud using a computer or "hacking" is still fraud.

      • fraud?

Add to Google Family Group to share storage?
Would this put the other accounts at risk?

    • +1

I wouldn't think so. I might make the account and let it sit for a few months before making it the family boss. If it gets banned or whatever within that time, no real loss

  • +2

For those about to hack, I salute you!

Good job OP nevertheless and thank you for sharing!

    • I kinda did it without thinking, though it is on a sort of throw away account which turned into more of a non throw away account over time IE I've used the email for logins for certain things which are again more throw away accounts on stuff like social media but yeah hope i don't get nuked haha. It would just be annoying more than losing anything important.

If my email does get nuked what happens to sites that use it as a login? are those screwed or I can still use them but won't get any emails and would be screwed if I forget the password.

    • +5

      Huh like you have friends

      • +2

The crackdown has begun. They deactivated all your punctuation.

        • :D

    • Nark!

  • +1

Hmm, I think I might wait 24 hours to see if google stops this and people come here to complain as I doubt they'll let it run for a full day. Otherwise, if they don't do anything, then lets go.

  • +3

I commend the effort. How does one find out these glitches? Surely he isn't just randomly trying codes, how would he know to put 2C3/2C1 and why specifically that section? Would be very interested to know.

  • -3

    Thanks OP.
Some People ITT suck. If you don't want to do it, move on. I'd love to have 30TB free storage just because. This doesn't harm anyone here complaining, probably reporting. ?

  • +2

I got this ***Using this console may allow attackers to impersonate you and steal your information using an attack called Self-XSS.Do not enter or paste code that you do not understand.

    • +3

That's a standard Firefox warning whenever you first open the console in order to protect people who don't know what it is from executing commands that random people told them to.

You should make sure you trust any commands before running them.

  • Good for temporary storage I guess, but wouldn't store anything you don't want to lose tho.

Thinking how long it will take me to upload 30TB
