    Coles vs amaysim.
Wow exact same price for the 60gb $99 with .
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803095

Which one allow us to receive sms overseas without need roaming?

    • +2

Probably not answering to your question. I know Belong has it for sure — Allow you reveive SMS verification code while overseas without activating intl roaming.

Amaysim and Coles has the same price but the difference is the Coles one includes international calls and SMS from Australia, Amaysim does not.

Amaysim has eSIM option, and the Coles one doesn't.

Currently on the Amaysim $99 plan and considering to move to the Coles one

      • Amaysim 119 pack has these . which includes international calls

        60GB Data with unlimited banking
Unlimited standard international talk to 28 countries, SMS and MMS to selected countries
Unlimited standard national talk and text

        • So the cheapest $99 doesnt?

      • +2

I think you don't get international calls included when you buy from Amaysim directly but the one from Woolworths has international calls. Imo Amaysim offers better online account control/features than Coles mobile and also better customer service in case you need.
I am looking to move from Coles to Amaysim. Other better option is boost but expensive now.

        • I noted the same.

    • +3

I received OTP messages on Coles mobile on my overseas holiday earlier this year, no need to add roaming packs for that

      • No they charge at international rate when you call out.

    • +1

I’m currently on Coles Mobile, moved from Amaysim since last December. Coles Mobile claims to include international SMS in this plan. However, I have not been able to send message to China ever since. Several support calls had been lodged but Coles support team did not make any sense. They could not fix the problem and don’t bother to pursue the cause. Multiple users have same problem, from any locations. Tired of wasting time with them and I plan to revert to Amaysim or other service providers once the period finished.

In my opinion, Coles Mobile is inferior.

    • With Catch, I received SMS while I was in overseas (without roaming). If I need to call someone then I purchased a package.

    • All providers allow receiving free SMS while overseas without roaming

      • I assume that you need wifi for this?
If so probably works for call using VoWiFi

        • +1

No, don't need vowifi for that. Technically it's free roaming for SMS only

          • @FeZZa21: This. You don't need to pay anything for just receiving SMS overseas. So long as you switch that roaming on.

    • +1

Received SMSs overseas on Coles Mobile 120GB without any charges.

    • +3

Currently in Thailand with Amaysim and receiving incoming SMS

      • Thanks for confirming for Amaysim and enjoy your holiday!

    • They all do, but none will explicitly mention it. I just came back from 6 months overseas and the whole time was receiving SMS with a Woolies SIM. I'd get a roaming warning everytime I went into a new country but you can just ignore those.

      • Oh you think all providers do? Interesting.
Yeah none say probably they hope people paying for roaming.

        • +1

Icing on the cake was when connected to wifi then wifi calling enabled itself and I was able to make and receive calls using my AU number with no roaming and as if I was still in the country.

    • But for big GIG users only $169 for the 200GB Plan
      Much cheaper than amaysim!

Can rock up to any Coles store and buy your starter pack
Great if you are in urgent need

Amaysim receives SMS overseas but you cannot send
Reply via imessage, Whatsapp, messenger etc

I assume the same with Coles mobile
      Start Optus network offfer

You also get optus WiFi calling
Allows you to receive calls in Australia via wifi when you dont have mobile coverage (Not overseas)

  • Check out Catch Connect. Same or better prices there already.

    • +3

Catch Connect $99 and $119 does not include International calls and SMS.

    • +1

      no international inclusions from Catch

      • Aha I see. I just ordered one today and didn't really pay that much attention 🙃.

      • If you don’t care about international calls and you have one pass
        60gb $89
        120gb $109

        For anyone
        200gb $150

  • Will the Coles SIM work on Optus-locked phones?

  • +1

A year later, coles automatically discounts the same package by 20%.

    • Mines up for renewal this month, reckon wait for their discount or chase it with the customer care?

      • +1

or buy the 20% off recharge voucher when you're at the store

      • +2

Make sure auto recharge is off and they usually send you the offer.

        • Aah cheers!

    • My $200 plan finishing in 2 days. And if I try to recharge now it shows $200. Did t receive any offer either. I will try in store

  • +1

Coles drop off my calls like every 5~10 minutes, so far amaysim haven't experience that, enough said.

    • +1

Seems like Coles is listening in and dont like what you say

      • +1

Right, that reminds me of Woolie discounts the other days…. XD

    • Yes experienced the same drop occasionally too.

  • My youngest son starts school next year. Can I buy it and activate it next year before he starts school?

    • If all you need is an emergency phone, just buy the $5 Amaysim long expiry SIM.

      • Thx Bio
Want him to use it as a phone, but want to activate it before he starts school.
Would anyone know if you could buy the sim plan and activate later?

        • +1

Activate within 30 days of purchase. Wait for a sale later in the year. These usually go on sale every month or two.

      • Where does the $5 amaysim long expiry sim get purchased?

      • Has high Data rates to be aware of

        Data
Data charged at 5c/1MB or $51.40/1GB. Pay $10 for AYG plan. 365 day expiry.

  • Re deal: 20% off recharge vouchers in store. Can I pay with e-gift card?

    • I purchased with a Coles gift card when they had this deal about a month ago - whether that's allowed I'm not sure but the cashier didn't stop me…

  • +4

Just for everyone’s reference. Price is same as Black Friday last year, but Black Friday deal offers double data.

  • Can you buy this very cheap 1 year plan as your main number, and then buy those free nonstop boost 28 day starter pack for data?

  • Is there a reason all these Wednesday deals on the front page are marked to start Tuesday 11pm?

    • +2

      Qld non-Daylight Savings Time?

    • +1

I think daylight saving has kicked in.

  • Woolworth Mobiles one year plans include a 10% off your monthly Woolies shop.
My savings work out to a free plan for me. Inter calls & Inter SMS require an add-on.
    60gb = $100, 125gb = $170, 200gb = $220.

    • This was very handy when we could redeem this online, now that’s gone- 10% promo is in store only, and woolies never gives spend xx for xx bonus points unlike coles if u shop there once a month or more

So over the year they kinda break even imo

Also Woolies uses watered down Telstra network vs Amaysim/Coles using Optus

In metro Melbourne area Optus far superior to Telstra - I won’t be renewing my Woolies mobile for these reasons

        • was talking about the woolies deal, good to know Coles gives the benefit for online shopping as well

Will definitely switch to Coles once my woolies plan expires

          • @[Deactivated]: Argh nvm me… I had both WW & Coles browser tabs open comparing them while reading this thread, lol.

  • does it support eSIM, which seems to be a deal breaker?

    • No

    • no amaysim does

      • +1

thank you, will use that one then

  • Autorecharge if not required for data rollover. You can also get it by renewing prior to the expiry of your current plan.

  • anyone know how long you have to activate the service?

  • -3

But it's Optus. The worst telco in history. Avoid at all costs.

  • Where can I get that 20% off recharge voucher? Do I have to ask the staff?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

you can also get it from the self service register. just search for 'coles recharge' in the terminal.

      • I went there yesterday and it didnt appear to be 20% off?

        • sorry, not sure when the promotion ends for recharge..but i bought it via self service a few days ago and it was 20% off.

  • +1

These deals aren't that great when Moose Mobile and Spintel do 16-20GB per month for $11 to $12 for 6 months respectively. So every 6 months you could switch between the two and get more data for approx $132 per year.

    • Moose Mobile use the full Optus 4G network too.

    • If someone wants more data why wouldn't they buy the cheapest yearly plan for calls/texts plus the cashback Boost SIMs and get PAID rather than swapping back and forth and paying $132. e.g. There's a post above… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14364769/redir… So sign up for a OnePass trial, buy that $89/y ($7.42/m) plan, then buy Boost SIMs (which are at least a couple of dollars back each SIM bringing this SIM for calls/texts down to at least $5.42/m, or $65.04/y).

  • Sorry another question. If I am currently with 200GB plan, and I want to downgrade to 120GB or 60GB plans, can I still get $20 recharge discount?

    • you mean the 20% off discount, yes I don't see why not as the discount applies to all the 3 plan types in this deal at least.

  • Woolies better with 10% off shop each month.

  • My existing Coles mobile plan is until end of Nov2023. To take advantage of 20% discount for recharge, can I buy the recharge voucher now n only recharge it by end of Nov 2023? Cheers

    • Terms And Conditions
Discount offer - $120 SIM: Offer ends 31/10/23, unless withdrawn earlier. Discounted price of $99 applies to SIM purchase which includes a $120 recharge. Ongoing recharges revert to standard price of $120 for 60GB or as otherwise advertised. New services only. Data allowance of 60GB is applied upfront after $99 payment and SIM activation. Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.

    • +1

you can, afaik recharge voucher has 365 days expiry date, at least that's the case last year. my plan is expiring in november too but I'll be getting the voucher this week.

      • i too am on the coles plan and mine expires november too…. last i asked them they normally give out recharge vouncher and just have it done there… can u apply coles staff discounts on it?

      • just bought the voucher today, can confirm expiry is 1 year.

    • Yes, if you buy now you'll have until 1/10/24 to use the recharge voucher

  • Currently on woolies mobile; plan about to expire. Reckon I cop this coles deal?

A part of me just wants to bite the bullet and pay woolies rrp recharge. Thinking of recharging to 200gb for $220.

This coles deal for 200gb is $170. $50 extra, which I might be able to breakeven via the 10% shop discoumt

    • if woolworths is your main supermarket to shop from, stay with them.

      • I've asked the question just now in another thread. Anyone know if you can use the 10% off for the recharge instore?

Edit: Just read T&Cs, I think not. Anyways I have woolworths GCs to expend.

  • Is it possible for my friend, she is using Optus prepaid, to transfer her number to this plan, considering that both are on the Optus network?

  • Looking at changing 3 phones over to Coles plans, if buy now, when do you have to activate them by?

  • +1

Went coles today, scanned normal price

  • The 120gb for $119 is no longer available online? Will it work in store?

  • For anyone who has ported there number over recently, how long did it take? Its been 3 hrs now, the porting team stops at 8pm (ie in 1hr), and when I enquired through their chat, they said they have a technical issue and hope to get back to me within 48hrs!

    • I have recently done port out and back to Coles mobile, each one didn’t take more than 10 mins
