  • If you aren't a professional sharpener you can look at naniwa gouken arata, from what I've read/heard it is the same stone just thinner and cheaper.
From amazon japan you can get it between 50-60 which is a good deal

  • Hi. I am a complete noob in this area but what is the difference between this one and the following.

    https://amzn.asia/d/6IomsXK

I just need something to sharpen my cheap kitchen knifes

Don't go for these no brand whetstones. You will need a coarse one (~ 200 grit) and a medium one (~ 1000 grit) for the cheap knives.

This one should be sufficient for your need https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B087Z9SP3S/ref=ox_sc_ac…

If you want slightly better results you may go for

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00BB2SD6O?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…
There is one left for $29 from Amazon japan

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B000OT1ZOC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…
this one was available for $13 yesterday. You missed out on this one.

Thanks mate. Got the 1st one you recommended. It would be helpful if you can recommend a good instruction video as this will be my 1st time trying to sharpen my knife.

      • +2

That last one is still available for $13.58 if you click "other sellers". I got in on that deal, and mine is also coming from Japan. I think you'd be safe too as it's sold by Amazon Japan.

Edit: I ended up grabbing that Naniwa to pair with that 1000 grit K-45 deal! Thanks! Might be more than 1 left, as I already purchased it as "usually dispatched within 5 to 10 days".

  • The 3000 grit naniwa chosera stone is the best stone I've used so far in my collection. Really good finish and nice feedback.
