does this apply to all deals? or any specific one?

  • +23

good deal, but honestly shopback screw around so much im not willing to lay out that kind of cash on something i wouldnt have bought anyway. and to clarify, having it track is only half the fight, the amount claims rejected for unclear and unexplained reasons is the issue with shopback

    • +1

"They have got a 31 day money back, so if it doesn’t track and you don’t want to risk anything, can always cancel this."

      • +4

doesnt make me feel confident they will honor it, which is the real issue with shopback

        • By "they" I meant purevpn, just edited the post

          • +9

@Yer: i get it, just my previous experience with shopback has been perfectly legit cashbacks rejected with no explanation and no reasonable response when questioned (they often come back with 'the vendor has rejected your claim and theres nothing we can do) - funnily, from the same retailers that track and pay without issue through cashrewards.

if its something i was gonna buy anyway, by all means id risk it through SB, but not about to spend nearly $200 on a thing i dont need in the hopes ill make $30ish profit

            • @perfectlydark: Is it important with SB that you use the same email as your account to signup for the VPN service? I presume if SB is trying to find ways to reject the claim, this will be one of the ways (potentially)?

              • +1

@nsingh21: possibly. id do that if i was to buy this. but honestly if they want to reject it, they'll just do so without bothering with a proper reason, they will just say purevpn rejected it and thats as far as itll go.

                • +1

@perfectlydark: Hmm, that is very concerning indeed!

Really stuck in the middle now. Agreed it's better to be safe than sorry.

      • +3

        Track ≠ paid.

    • +2

      Just record your screen

    • +3

100%. They've declined multiple of my transactions for absolute BS reasons. I've provided evidence and they still denied it. Totally off SB.

  • AU$188 on Revolut… so at least AU$222 cashback for $34 profit.

    • +5

Overcharged on paypal, $197 as there was no step in check out to select currency conversion rate as there usually is. Filing for refund oin principle. Getting scammed on payment before even using the product is not a winning start.

      • Same, Shopback tracked it as $242 cashback.

      • +1

Yea same, I was so confused I was like wtf, where is the currency conversion option? I've left them a message on PayPal Messages asking them to manually help me be charged in USD rather than using PayPal's bloody conversion

I assume OP got it charged at $188 on Revolut because he didn't go via PayPal.

Wondering whether PayPal will just refund me, partially refund me, or cancel the transaction (and I guess I'd have to make a new account)

      • +3

Same, I reached out to PayPal to reverse and to get charged using my CC conversion rate and they have issued me with a $10 credit. Was told it is impossible to force the CC conversion on this particular deal. $245.11 Cashback tracked so I left it as is.

      • thanks for the heads up!

      • +1

I just realised Paypal has removed the option to avoid Paypal to perform currency conversion.
After digging a bit further they have removed the option. So now i need to remember to avoid Paypal payment for non-AUD payments.
        an article mentioning this: https://guidesify.com/how-to-avoid-paypal-conversion-fees/

        • I think they only removed it for recurring transactions, which PureVPN is considered because it's a subscription.

I recall still having the option for standard one-off transactions.

    • Tracked at 242…mustv'e been no GST, so actually $54 profit

      • Where are you seeing the cashback? Under cashback activity?

I have nothing under cashback activity, but I do have my PureVPN click recorded under Click activity..

        • Yeah, under cashback activity . Tracked a few hours after the transaction.

          • @jimboner: ah ok mine got added eventually too. got an email about it. cool.

    • Most expensive plan I can get is 2 year puremax for $119.95 without add ons

  • Does anyone here use Brave Browser and having trouble getting shopback & cashrewards clicks tracked?

    • Had to install Firefox just for sb and cr as Brave blocked cookies too much.
Installed the plugins for ff and only use it when shopping.

      • Thanks, 2 of my cashrewards didn't track even when I use their Cashreward extension for Brave

    • +5

I use Brave but swap to Chrome only when buying something with cashback (for exactly the reason you describe).

      • I use chrome incognito with blocking and maywarebyte extensions off

      • I use Chrome with no extensions for cashback

  • +3

It seems to be only 75% off and 3 extra months, not 80% and 4 extra months that ShopBack are advertising.

    • +2

Yeah, what's going on here, @gotyourback?

  • +2

I use PureVPN and it is mostly okay. They are slowly getting rid of PPTP server choices - I use this on some older hardware and it can drop for a few days every six months. If you simply MUST have reliable PPTP servers available, look somewhere else. Otherwise, they are pretty good. I can max out my 30Mbps download on all of their servers I've tried. I haven't tried their 'get around geoblocked TV/streaming' options, so I can't comment.

    • Hey @ColPow11… hoping to make contact regarding the Bluey Educational Resources and wondering if you still have them. Would love to look at them as a Educator? Seems really random but just going through previous threads.

      • I'm sorry, I don't. It is the sort of thing I usually keep on the server, but I can't find it. I will look again, but searching 'bluey' is bringing up nothing. Roughly what date did I post/mention it? That might help.

      • I've looked everywhere now. No dice. Sorry. They say it 'might come back' on their site, but I wouldn't hold your breath!

  • How do they compare to PIA? Have 6 months left on my 5 year plan. Might switch now.

[Edit] Used the app for a bit. This app is so bloody slow its almost unusable.

    • 444ms ping to their AU server, from Brisbane QLD on Telstra/NBN. Crazy.

  • +1

Paying for your data, how sweet.

    • I just use a VPN for geo-restricted deals anyway ;)

  • -8

    Shopback is garbage

  • How long does tracking usually take for PureVPN?

    • +1

It tracked for me pretty quickly last time, says pending since September.

  • +2

How is PureVPN compared to NordVPN? My 2 year is coming to an end next month so need to start thinking about other options.

    • Yeah same here, would like to know this.

    • following this too

    • Cant speak on NordVPN, but compared to PIA, PureVPNs app is super slow.

  • Any one use PureVPN in China? Any good or there a better one?

I am heading there next year for a holiday.

    • +2

I'd say your easiest option would be to setup Outline VPN on a VPS before you go to China and just connect to that. Apparently it's designed to work in China.

      • +1

You could also run Tailscale on a PC/NAS/Raspberry Pi at your house as an exit node and just connect to that

        • If they don't block it. Tailscale uses WireGuard while Outline uses shadowsocks.

    • +1

I just came back from China
PureVPN was kinda hit or miss, not sure if it was particular wifis that restricted the use. I wasn't able to VPN at one or two hotels no matter what we tried iOS/Android.
In hindsight, i would probably get an unlimited data ESIM for China.

      • What? ESIM works in China?

    • I am in China now and I have been using it in China for almost 2 months, its quite stable and speed is OK, like easy to connect and can watch youtube.

      • Why I need VPN in China? Or do i even need it?

        • It depneds
Some services are blocked in China like all google service (google, gmail, youtube etc) and Facebook etc. so it would be a Yes if need to access any of them.
but there are still quite a bit stuffs you can access freely from China, like ozbargain and all microsoft services like bings, Teams, azure etc.

          • @lcshan:

but there are still quite a bit stuffs you can access freely from China, like ozbargain and all microsoft services like bings, Teams, azure etc.

Don't remind me them. Next thing we know we're never gonna see you here again

      • may i ask which nodes are you using cuz I had tried couples but none of them worked.

        • mostly Australia, then Hongkong and US
It might related to your ISP or the network you connecting as well, because other comments said its not very stable when using WIFI from hotel, both my mobile network and broadband providers are China Unicom

    • I recently passed through Shanghai and used Eskimo global esim (has been on here before) without issues. It seems to be Singapore based, and all internet worked fine with no blocking.

In fact the only issue was that I almost couldn't pay for a meal with a qr code because wechat wouldn't recognise that I was in the country. I had to do a personal transfer to the owner to get around it.

  • Is the Max plan eligible for the 130% cashback?

    • Yup should be around $245 cashback , 1hr later

  • +2

To be fair, ShopBack did approve my last isp compare deal for $109, after many emails and weeks past the promised date. I gave up trying in the end. Still don’t know how it works internally because that deal was branded as a ShopBack service. Really need to factor in the time and stress if that is something triggering for you, when it comes to larger cashback.

  • Looks like pia is on increased cashback too 95% if someone wants to post it

  • ive been using them for about a year now. it works pretty well. and they pay you so no brainer.

  • +2

    Tracked… $242.24 available 02-Jan-2024

    • Which plan did you get?

  • Paid $86 for the standard plan. $110 tracked

  • Which plan to get for maximum cashback?
    Does cashback include dedicated ip?

    • dedicated ip = add on (non trackable)

  • pull the trigger on this or wait ~8 weeks for any BF deals?

  • Got 1 year left on my PIA. I guess I'll just wait till PIA expires.

  • Cyberghost any good?

  • since its repeated sb should allow pure invite disc $10 🧐
anyone able to cancel the renewal successfully ?

  • anyone used gc tricks ?

  • +1

Inb4 ShopBack decline cashback in 90 days time (like everything else). Stick to Cash Rewards.

    • I have had hardly any cashback rejections from SB (or CR for that matter).

      • I had the same experience, until I didn't. It's quite common, check PerfectlyDark's comment (2nd on this *deal).

  • If you're actually going to use the VPN be aware they keep logs and hand info over to law enforcement agencies.

    • -2

yeah IF someone do funny stuff
which is good to keepaway those bad ppl

      • Lack of privacy is not 'good'

    • +1

All I use vpn for is for geoblocked content.

Or signing up to something dodgy.

  • When they are paying you to use their VPN, your data is at risk. lol, what is the catch?

    • That's fine with me if the data I provide is fake

    • I sold my details for profit 😃

  • $245.11 tracked.

    • same

    • Same. Charged $188.57 on my CC.

      • $188.41 on Coles MC

        • Cashback is not payable on purchases made using gift cards unless otherwise stated

Not sure but yours could get declined if you consider Coles MC a gift card?

  • Is this the highest ever cashback percentage for a VPN?

    • +1

They've had 130% cashback on PureVPN
