  • New vpn or shopback customers?

Surely this is a clear indicator that vpns are harvesting your data to sell.

    • +46

well at least they pay to get my data

    • +2

ozbargain needs a warning under every listing about VPNs.

    • +8

surely u can get this deal and never use the VPN

  • +3

How does this compare to NordVPN for streaming services? I only use these sort of VPNs for streaming services like BBC iPlayer and Max etc?

    • +1

I've been using it for a couple of years just because it came as part of a lifetime deal. It's okay. Average speed when I'm DL Linux distros, it tops around the 3M/S at off peak times . There are only three torrent servers available on pure VPN located France, Romania and Canada, Ontario. Works ok for streaming, Netflix US etc.. YMMV

    • After using NordVPN and PureVPN, I would personally prefer NordVPN, it's bit more faster and has less troubles

  • Sign up to the 3 year deal + Pure Max + dedicated IP with port forwarding, which totals to $234.59 USD, you get $304.20 USD cashback, so over $100 AUD net profit?

    • +5

Often the promotion is only specifically on a particular product type - I know nordvpn had a few people get caught out thinking they could sign up for all the premium services, but the cashback was only on the VPN part.

Aaaand in the Notes on Shopback:

Cashback is only eligible for New PureVPN Customers only
Cashback is not applicable for Add-on items
Excludes taxes, fees or additional extras

Also listed in the Don'ts section:

Cashback is not payable for Existing PureVPN Customers and any Add-on items

      • Ah didn't read the fine print. Cheers for pointing that out.

So the better deal to sign up (in terms of cashback profit) would be the more expensive 2 year + 4 months deal for $95.95 USD. (instead of the 3 year plan for $79.95 USD)

  • +1

Sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?

      • +3

        Are there any that don't.

        • Pretty sure Nord VPN and Surf Shark don't. They're both very pro-privacy.

      • +2

and that fbi have been outsourced to china

      • +1

What if you buy it and don't use the product?

        • Then hopefully you get some sweet profit and you’re on your way to buying a Tesla.

    • +3

I've heard it's impossible to cancel. I'm not sure if Australian Consumer Law applies to these foreign providers. So buy beware. If you really must, use a reloadable visa / mastercard if it works.

      • +2

Or just use PayPal and disable auto payment when required?

      • +3

I'm using a credit card that will expire in a few months

  • What payment method or card should I use to avoid cc charges and taxes?
    Thanks

  • +1

I was wondering if I can use the Colesmastercard for payment.

    • I don't see any reason you can't
add it through paypal for extra peace of mind
      please share with tracked amount

      • Purchases from stores outside Australia haven't been accepted for a while now with them (e.g. AliExpress, Steam) so highly doubt it'd work here. @triple a

And yes that's even with trying to use them through PayPal.

        • ali worked with me, give it a go one more time
remove your prev payment details before making manual payment

        • I successfully bought this with the coles prepaid mastercard. It was rejected the first time, but it went through when I tried the second time.

  • +1

Just don't expect the money any time soon, I bought and tracked on June 11 and still waiting for cashback. I can't understand why don't pay the cashback once the refund period had ended.

    • Try lodging a ticket with Shopback if it's past the date they give you the cashback. It'll take a while, but you'll presumably get the cashback faster than if you didn't.

  • New customers as in new signups? Or are old unsubscribed accounts eligible with new subscriptions?

    • change of email i.e new cust

  • +3

Has servers in Turkey, India and Argentina for those cheap subscription deals, in case anyone's wondering

    • *Under Data Collection Law the company does not have a physical server located in India.

      • +1

doesn't matter as long as the IP is registered as Indian IP and can bypass geoblocking filters for subscription/streaming services

  • +1

Will wait and see the tracked amount. 130% is too good to be true

    • Please share!

    • Did you buy the 2 years Max plan?

  • -1

Damn, I participated in one of the last 120% cashback deals they had. Could have waited almost 3 months and made an extra 10%.
Where (or who) do I return my OzBargain membership card to?

    • You could create a new PureVPN account and take advantage of this deal as well?

      • That likely wouldn't work. I have already done one through ShopBack, I could be wrong but that would essentially invalidate me for another round as it's for New PureVPN Customers only which I have already received cashback for (Currently 'Pending' awaiting to be 'Confirmed') so technically I'm no longer a New PureVPN Customer (Per se)

        • +3

I don't think ShopBack cares. They will pay you based on what's reported from PureVPN.

I used to do this with DoorDash, created over 10+ new accounts and got $20 cashback each time, on the same Shopback account.

  • If something is free, you are the product

    • +4

I'm sure the majority of people these days use a combination of Free services (TikTok, Facebook, Google (and it's various services), X, Instagram etc) and everyone uses Android or iOS so if you're concerned about this one Free product (after cashback) then you're definitely dismissing the ways you have been the product previously. I'm sure you have also been a dirty little product willful participant in many of the 'You're the product' opportunities available.

Just another to add to the list..

    • This makes me cringe, you can pay for something and still be the product

  • +3

So the real amount of cashback would be
    $95.95 x 0.9 = $86.35 before gst $86.35 x 1.3 = $112.25 cashback
    112.25 - 86.35 = $16.3 Profit

    • greatf for harvesting 17c a day
would you mind to tell us ease of use compared to Nord if you had one, any CAPTCAS

    • Great, thanks for sharing!

    • +1

That's not how you work out pre GST. It's not 9/10. It's 10/11.

  • Does the Max plan get cashback or do I need the Standard plan instead?

    • From my understanding it’s for the standard plan as the rest would be add-ons which are excluded

      • the post below from @hamza23 confirmed he got cashback from Max plan tho?

        • Shopback advertise the max plan on the cashback page and in the email. Not sure why that would be classified as an add on.

          Expires in 5 days Verified
Enjoy 80% off + 4 extra months on 2-year max plan
          Up to 130.00% Cashback Details

These are the addons, on PureVPN site:

          Addons for VPN
          Port Forwarding
          $1.49 /mo
          Dedicated IP with Port Forwarding
          $3.49 /mo
          Dedicated IP
          $2.49 /mo

          • @hamza23: Seems like a great question for @gotyourback to answer.
I have the same understanding as Onlineuserr does

            • @Empharand: Can confirm I have the Max plan (2 years + 4 months) for US$95.95 (~AU$150, hasn't cleared yet) with nothing additional ticked, and have gotten tracked notification for AU$193.16

            • @Empharand: Hey mate, I have the same understanding, I can't see any reason why the Max plans wouldn't work.

  • +5

    Tracking came through now A$193.16.

I paid US$95.95, which is about A$148.92 with current MasterCard rates.

    • So potentially $44.24 profit?!

      • +1

Yep. I'll confirm $A amount once the transaction settles.

If you don't have a fee free credit card or you let paypal do the currency conversion then it will be a few dollars less profit at least.

        • Wow that is even better than I thought. Someone tell @jv as this can really help get closer to that Tesla

          • @[Deactivated]:

help get closer to that Tesla

It needs to be Boost Sim cards.

            • +1

              @jv: ha ha thats 20 sims @jv

        • +2

Looks like it already has the amount online for the transaction A$149.05:

          • $ 149.05
            95.95USD

          So charged $149.05. Cashback $193.16. $44.11 profit.

          • @hamza23: repeat the process for 10 times and that's $440 after tax income.

  • this math is not mathing.

    good luck folks.

  • So would I get cashback for Pure Max plan + dedicated IP addon? (~$155.71)

    • No applicable for add ons and it looks like u have to manually add the add ons to the Max order.

  • Max plan

  • @hamza23 was charged $149.05, checking out with PayPal couldn't find toggle to pay in USD couldn't avoid PayPal's currency conversion was charged $155.27
did i miss something, paypal payment process looked different? otherwise worth avoiding paypal if your card doesn't have int' transaction fees, at least paypal lets me disable autopayment for peace of mind

    • I’d avoid Paypal for foreign currency

      • So you'll rather give pure vpn your credit card number+

        • +2

No. I’d use a one-time digital debit card, for example the ones created in Wise or Revolut. Or even better a Coles MC if you still have one.

    • Which plan did you get?

    • I used credit card, not Paypal. For some reason most of my credit cards weren't showing on Paypal screen so I did straight credit card instead. I didn't even get to the point of changing the currency from Paypal conversion to USD.

Edit: Looking at the last deal it seems others had the same problems with Paypal.

  • +1

I just bought it for the cashback. Won't be installing it or using it since I use Nord.

  • Just wondering if anyone this for content from India and if it works well - need to watch Hotstar ; Pure vpn seems to have virtual servers based on the info on the website

    • +3

A lot of people go for their large boneless chicken, but I think their chicken soft bones are really good

    • it connects through Germany so answer is no
      not possible for Indian contents

    • +1

I have checked it. Hotstar working fine even better than surfshark connection.

  • Anyone getting payment declines? Tried 2 different debit cards

    • Me. Transaction via Google Pay declined. Twice.

      • Same card, no Google Pay, different PC and payment was successful.

    Thanks for sharing!

I took the plunge yesterday, bought a 24 month plan, and ShopBack tracked within a few hours.
I used a spoof email from SimpleLogin, but my regular UBank card.

However, I just received an email from PureVPN saying my subscription has 'expired', and my account no longer active. Logged in to my account, and confirmed I no longer have an 'active' account.
I checked my card, and looks like there is a refund pending, but this will obviously invalidate the ShopBack.

I contacted PureVPN support, and they said someone from the relevant team would respond within 24 hours.

I can only see examples of PureVPN cancelling 'lifetime' subscriptions, so we'll see what they come back with.

    • +2

Thanks for sharing. Please keep us posted.

      • Looks like it may have been my bank, though it's still not clear.

I received the below response from PureVPN which mentions the chargeback, though they go on to mention they have initiated a refund, which they wouldn't have to do if it was a chargeback.

I've asked my bank if they processed a chargeback without my request, but am still waiting to receive a response. Hopefully this hasn't happened to anyone else.

        Dear PureVPN Member,

I still have a valid PureVPN subscription (got a 5-year subscription two years ago). I don't actually use it as I have NordVPN as well.

I bought the PureVPN because at that stage I managed to get a dedicated IP address with a significant discount, and also got cashback (I believe I paid around $30 for the 5 years including the US dedicated IP).

When I used PureVPN two years ago, it was not good in terms of speed and unblocking streaming (hit and miss). The dedicated US IP was slow and wouldn't work for streaming, the reason why I've completely given up.

Support was based in HK and was not great. The TV app didn't work properly, and support will keep asking to do stupid pointless stuff before saying they couldn't help.

    • is nord better with streaming? iv just bought pure (first time bought and using vpn) and whislt it now lets me log in to UK based streaming, doesnt play at all. useless

      • No problems at all with Nord, it's pretty good.

Anyone knows that how can I turn off the auto renewal subscription if I paid by credit card?

  • It looks like it's now "only" 110% :( damn didn't buy it earlier haha

    • Down to 105% now

  • +1

Why expired? Just change it from 130% cashback to 110% cashback?
