i really got to port my number for a month and then port back in to get the bonus lol

    • It depends on the staff you are dealing with. A lot of people have managed to get the bonus by porting out and porting in less than a month.

  • any $69 plan with less gc value offerings?

    • I didn't go in, I'm not associated.
Only the info from the pic

    • +1

based on their website (that's reporting $99 plan for $1200 GC), it's a terrible $450. I've seen it as high as $600 GC for the $69 plan (in 2023)

  • I feel like this has been an ongoing deal for a long time

  • +2

This has been on offer for a very long time. They had $1500 with the $99 a couple of times now, a bit more appealing especially because of the two year lock in contract. Maybe wait it out.

    • +4

Wasn't the $1500 one just for samsung s23 phones?

      • It could be, I honestly can't remember but I remember they had one also for the Pixel 7 at launch. My brother signed up for that. So could be phone specific.

  • +4

they have ruined any chance of this being as popular as it once was by going to 24mo contracts

  • +4

I did this last year. Never again will I do more than 12 months contract

  • +1

After the voucher it works out to $49 a month and you're locked in for 2 years. I'm happy to go with Boost or some wholesale like ALDI mobile.

    "Better be quick!"

Continue to offer this for like 8 months out of every year. Pretty much established that this is not a good deal at this point… locking yourself in to spend $1200 at JB hifi so you can overpay for a phone plan for 24 months.

    • Exactly.
This is lacklustre compared to the 12 month plans they used to offer.

  • +1

It isnt a great deal, we shouldnt promote any 2 year plans, no one would want to be locked in for two years, never!

Good deal for sheep buying new iphone

  • Is jb full Telstra?

    • +1

Full coverage incl 5g but the JB plans are not the same as retail Telstra and may not have the same features or inclusions.

  • I think the cancellation fees is 800. So still a profit of 301( 1200-99-800)

    • +1

Not anymore I believe. There's a pro-rated voucher repayment thing in the terms and conditions now.

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received
when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee
(if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the
base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or
part months) remaining in your plan term.

      • I think they list the maximum voucher fee under critical information summary

        https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

        Voucher
        For eligible customers
        (see below for
        eligibility criteria)
        N/A $450 $800
        Maximum Voucher
        Repayment Fee N/A $450 $800
All for use in Australia. For use in a smartphone or tablet only.
Capped Speed: Download speeds for included data are capped at 250Mbps on our 4G and 5G network. This speed

        • Hmm true but it also doesn’t reflect the correct voucher amount.

How I interpret it is this:
          1. It’s prorated
          2. On a 800 dollar voucher (pre promo amount) your maximum voucher repayment is $800 (ie 100% of the amount)

If I was a betting man I would say they will make you pay back the prorated amount of the full 1200 voucher, not the $800.

          • @Dr Fruit: Agree it’s not very clear , I did confirm this with a JB employee and he did confirm that it’s the maximum voucher repayment fee which is 800

            • @Puru: Hmm. I guess in that case it's worth it. To be cautious and make sure you don't play yourself, it'd be best to get it in writing ie. an email for clarification or something? Because JB employees in stores really would say anything… and they're not the ones calculating the repayments when you cancel.

Someone below commented that the repayment is 50/month which is the full $1200 divided by 24 months. Not sure what their source is but it's very possible an employee told them that as well. Inconsistencies already.

          • @Dr Fruit: I ported in and received $1300 a few months ago. The rep also confirmed with me that the maximum repayment amount is $800. The contract I got does not even mention the $1300 anywhere.

  • Can anyone confirm cancellation fees?

    • +1

      yes.
$50/month for the remaining of your contract.

      • +1

So basically the value of the jb hifi gift card if you cancel straight away. This seems pretty fair as it does not penalise you if you need to cancel as you receive a benefit but also will stop people just cancelling to make money out of the gift card.

        • No it's worse than that.

You have to pay $50/month for the remainder + the voucher has to be repaid (apparently up to $800 max).

  • I find that if you go to JB Hifi Website, go to products>mobile phones>JB- Hi-FI Mobile Plans (has little spanner icon) - you should be able to see the most current GC deals with their plans

  • so breakdown the numbers here
    $99 x 24 - 1200 = 1176
    1176/24 = $49

    $49/m for 300GB/m

wowee! My annual refill is like 150gb for $150. Who doesnt have access to free wifi these days?

    • Not so much access as security concerns using free wifi

      • +1

i dont know man, Wifi at home is fast/secure and work is super fast/super secure
thats pretty much all my usage. just need a little for music/youtube on the train

What are you doing with 300GB per month?!

    • +1

Free wifi is typically garbage compared to unshaped Telstra 5G.

    • I liked this deal when I wanted the voucher for a new MBP and I was traveling to work regularly on the train.

Now I wfh, I have no use for the 300GB lol

  • I don't think it's a new deal, it's there all the time I believe

  • Only way this might be a good deal is if you used the plan as home internet and didn't need to pay $75 a month home internet.

  • 300GB? I must be doing things wrong. My Boost yearly plan (140GB) which I started in December, and I still have 105 left! Having said that I just checked and I used about 750GB on my home internet last month.

  • I signed up to the same deal 3 months ago

  • Any chance now to get credit from Telstra like $10 or $20 off every month

  • +6

So much hate for 2 year lock in contract when half of you are married.

    • I know right, the average ozbargainer doesn't even have 2 years of life left!

  • So $50 a month for a plan youll probably only use 40 gigs or so of…

  • If you dont use $99 worth of plan this is false economy

  • +1

Its good if your employer pays your phone bill, thats why I did it ages ago (it was the $79 plan at the time).

2 year lock in hasnt been a big deal, except Telstra's international roaming offer sucks compared to Optus/Vodafone.

    • Roaming is not an issue given you can easily get a travel eSIM or local sim. Telstra is also the only telco which lets you do ‘WiFi’ Calling over your other sim’s LTE/5G data connection :)

      • Yeah I normally get a local sim but the offerings from Optus/Vodafone make it not worth the hassle, $5 a day and you're sorted. While Telstra is $10 a day with only 1GB.
