Priced $ 1099 without the code should and I think it's still worth it at that price given the amount of RAM and NVMe storage. It's a steal for under 1k I think

I'm pretty much tempted to get this myself so please someone take it before I bulge. :)

    40GB RAM ?… for a laptop?

    • +3

Yes, apparently so. Maybe a 32 GB added to an existing 8 GB. and that 1 TB NVMe SSD. this might be good enough for running VMs if always plugged in.

  • I wonder if they are trying to spoof page swap as extra Ram, I was always told match ram for ram, never mix it up. It also comes with a Cat5 connection, didn’t they phase that out of laptops years ago??

    • Might be just for "just in case" you need wired ethernet without bringing multiport adapters. Wifi 6E makes up for it I guess.

    • +1

Yeah it'll be 40gb of single channel ram due to the mixed up sizes.

Youll take a hit in performance, but if you need lots of ram for whatever reason, then 40gb for $1k is pretty amazing!

Older 2014 article, but still a good guide. Application benchmarks at the bottom: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1349-ram-how-dual-channel…

    • "Battery's not the greatest but is not bat."

Were you called in by the new bat-signal?

      • Can’t run the Batmobile of dodgy EV tech

    • +4

Mixing ram sizes is fine and will act as dual channel up to about 16gb in this case.

    Before you bulge eh? 😏

Will this be enough RAM for heavy Chrome usage? I like to have 30-40 tabs open at all times.

    • +5

No amount of memory shall be enough for Chrome. :)
Seriously though, I'm currently on a 32GB ram intel-based Mac and I have Google Chrome with 29 tabs open (for work stuff) in one screen and Brave (chromium-based) window with 32 tabs on another screen (personal stuff) with another Brave window/profile open behind it with 8 tabs + other apps behind - it seems fine with a reported 24GB used memory. Not sure how different it would be on a Windows though.

45% NTSC screen. Would avoid unless you really need 40GB RAM and unwilling to DIY upgrade.

sneaky Lenovo pretty much cut out good screens in this price segment unless you look at ideapad range or yoga of inferior quality

      • Thinkbooks fall into that category too. Despite their name, they are not business class. One of them was even a legion slim rebrand in the past, iirc even using the same bios.

        • yeah. from memory, only current gen ThinkBook 14s yoga has 100% sRGB panel, although low res (FHD)

  • Bought Thinkpad T15 (i5, 12th Gen) last year for $999. Almost the cheapeat Thinkpads I got in recent years. But for ThinkBook, I reckon $989 is just normal price (for I5).

    • So more expensive than the post?

      • Correct. Still not a terrible price
