15% off Any Delta or Skyteam Partner Flight Via Alitalia US Website (Sydney->US) SYD-NYC $1242

330
WEEK15US

Alitalia (Italian airline) is offering 15% off any flight booked on their website, including Delta and other SkyTeam partner flights through 11:59am US EST (2PM Australian EST Sept 24) on September 24th. This offer is valid to travel anytime from October 1th, 2012 until March 31st, 2013 (last inbound flight).

How does that apply for us Australians? Delta flies to Sydney, which means discount fares between Sydney and the US. Sydney - New York seems to be the best deal. Delta also flies to a number of other destinations including London, Paris etc. but have to fly via the US (probably a bit long). Plug in different destinations to see if they have competitive prices. Sydney is the only city you can use as your Australian origin. Check out Dan's Deals for other sample fares people have received.

Sample fare:
Sydney-New York, Oct 15-Oct 30
Price $ 1527.50
E-coupon $ (229.12)
Total $ 1298.38 USD (1242.11 AUD)
Price includes taxes and carrier-imposed fees.

What everyone else charges:
Google ITA Software - $1453
Adioso - $1570
Skyscanner - $1415
Hipmunk - $1529 via United
Webjet - $1432 via Delta
Qantas $1654
Expedia.ie - €1,173 ($1457)

Sample fare 2, same as above but LAX
1153.03 USD ($1103AUD) Adioso - $1207, Skyscanner - $1253

If the ecoupon doesn't work, you may have either entered dates outside of the promotion ( I did this the first time), or the website is being hammered as this has been posted on a few US sites. Rinse and repeat. They may decide to block discounts on Delta flights as per some comments.

When you purchase a ticket through Alitalia’s U.S. web site, we will allow you to cancel without penalty and receive a full refund within 24 hours after your purchase, if the reservation is made one week or more prior to scheduled flight departure. Cancellations and refunds for qualifying web site purchases may be requested by calling 800-223-5730. A great little fairly new US regulation that gives consumers change of mind rights.

Pretty good deal, and very well researched post! :)

Also, don't forget that Virgin Australia Velocity members can earn status credits and points on Delta, and those holding Velocity Gold status and above also get lounge access, priority check-in/boarding/baggage/screening with Delta.

  • Is delta a good airline?
Is it usually better to fly into LAX or NYC?

    • You have to go through LAX to get to NYC. No ways around that unfortunately.

Delta is the largest airline in the world. Better than United which is not hard but probably at the same level or a bit below Qantas.

I have taken the flight upto LAX concur that Delta is a good airline on par with QANTAS International upto LAX. Once in the USA it becomes like most US domestic carriers (good and bad). This is pretty much the same thing as QANTAS where everything except for a few flights become American Airlines flights. However QANTAS does fly their own planes through to NYC so instead of doing all the entry processing and changing planes/terminals you just get back on the same plane.

You'll always fly through LAX and unfortunately that place is always a construction zone with all sorts of detours and annoyances to stress you as you get to your connecting flight. All I can say is give the appropriate time (you really do need the 2 hours+ to clear everything and even then could miss if you need to do a Terminal change).

I have noticed that the Customs and Immigration people have gotten better at LAX the last 3-4 times I've been through but the NYC (JFK) people can be hit and miss.

When flying Qantas metal through to New York, you do customs/immigration at LAX. On the return trip, the aircraft pulls into the gate at Tom Bradley removing the need to change terminals. Qantas to New York is a much more pleasant experience than any of the US carriers.

At LAX, Delta has it's own terminal, which makes connecting onwards fairly nice and straightforward.

You go through customs, then re-check in. No need to change terminals if you're continuing on Delta metal.

Flew Delta last year SYD to LAX, nothing but praises. New, clean aircraft and on the return leg I had no one either side of me. Great for Intl flights.

  • Thanks for finding this, well researched and good find

  • nice, now got 24min to decide? should I or shouldn't I????? tempted…

even nicer… now to tell the boss:)

  • I can't get the thing to work - don't know if its a problem with my booking or with the coupon.
It still appears to accept it but I can never finalise the booking (and having to re-enter 6 people's details is a major pain in the ass!)
I even tried to get Flight Centre to price beat but they won't on a foreign website (apparently).

    • Some how I have the same problem occus it says
Siamo spiacenti, si è verificato un errore durante la prenotazione del tuo volo. Una o più tratte non sono diponibili nella classe selezionata.

      and I google translated it
Sorry, there was an error when booking your flight. One or more legs not They are available in the selected class.

      HELP!!

      • Yep - exactly the same issue as me.
        Anyone got any ideas?

        • What's the route you are trying to book?

        • SYD/LAX, which website should I go? US site or UK site? seems like doesn't work either site

        • It's only valid for the US site.

If you are going to just LA, give STA Travel. $1059 to LA.

      • Could be that the flight on your selected date is already full.

        • It shouldn't allow ppl to put their name in the first place, if it is already full.
It appeared error after I entered all the name down….such a waste of time. >.<

        • Yeah - I doubt it is because the flight is full.
You have to enter the no. of passengers before it shows you the available flights/classes…
          Still trying - still failing.
And yes, I am using alitalia.com

I'm trying for Syd - LAX in early Mar 13 for 2 weeks with 3 adults, 3 kids.
    Keep getting the same error.
The coupon is accepted and the price reduced - but after entering pasenger details the next screen keeps coming up with the error.

  • After trying to get a booking using this deal for two hours I am now starting to suspect that Alitalia simply does not want to honour its own deal but can't cancel the coupon yet so it is simply not accepting any bookings using the code… Maybe I am too cynical.
Oh, and I tried STA - they aren't in my price range for next March when I want to travel.

  • I would love to know - did anyone get a booking?

    • i tired but did not get anything and i was trying internal flights in march. it showed the discount and then the error which was pasted above!

According to Dan's Deals, people were able to book flights but just as many had issues with the website. Not quite sure what's going on.

Just looking at Delta's site on a Oct 15 departure,
2 flights on that day 10:50AM and 2:40PM. The morning flight is Delta 16, run by Delta while the afternoon is Delta 6799 operated by Virgin Australia. Virgin Australia is not part of Skyteam thus their flights don't qualify for the discount. That's one theory.

It could just be that their website is crap. ;)
