    • good idea if you need it, assuming your cat isnt tiny :p

    • Same as a gimp mask

  • Cant seem to find the 4 pack anymore, is it sold out?

    • +1

      It's the Black/White circle (2nd option)

      • +1

        Ta! I'm an idiot :D

Samsung EPP isnt showing the 4 pack :(

    • Its the black/White version that shows the 4 pack

      • Thankyou!

  • How does these work? When you park in multilevel car park? Where no reception..? Or if there is reception but different levels to find car?

    • Once you're in bluetooth range of the tag then GPS signal is not needed. I think I read that the bluetooth range was about 80m depending on obstructions.

If you have a phone with UWB, the phone will show you a 3D compass with an accurate distance in meters, so you can see if the tag is above or below you. It's usually the ultra and plus Galaxy phones that have UWB.

If your phone doesn't have UWB, I believe it will give you a distance in meters, with no compass, though if no GPS signal I don't think it would be too accurate, so long as it shows if you are getting closer then good enough.

      • +1

The tags don't have GPS, they rely on the phone GPS of whatever connects to it.

        • Yeah that's not what I said. Zeee's scenario is being in a multilevel carpark where your phone doesn't get a GPS signal, and other people's phones detecting your tag don't have GPS signal either.

    • uwb when your close enough, so assuming your on the right level should work fine

  • What nearby Samsung devices would detect this? If it's only the latest models, then limited benefit compared to Airtags which can be detected by iPhones 4+ years old, where the network is huge.

    • +3

theres a few videos comparing the two, i watched some as i was looking to purchase and apprently the smart tags' detection was on par and sometimes better than the airtag even tho there are less samsungs, idk how that works

      • +1

In australia? Wouod think country makes a difference based on brand adoption

        • i think someone posted a comment above abt a yt video of a comparison done of the first smart tag being used in Melbourne before the pandemic and apprently they yielded the same results

Just in case your curious, it's still been available with Samsung for a while.

    • +2

It goes back to around the galaxy s10 i think which is around 4 years old as well. Its not just flagship models as well, the A range of phones etc can detect.
The network is not a concern.

    • If it's only the latest models, then limited benefit compared to Airtags which can be detected by iPhones 4+ years old, where the network is huge.

Here's a test comparing the two, done in Melbourne.

Like how Samsung had fast charging on the Galaxy 3 in 2013 but Apple released fast charging on the iPhone X in 2017? Or did they create that idea from scratch and it's just a coincidence?

All tech companies take inspiration from each other and the benefit is consumer choice when purchasing.

    • +9

Aaaaand this was the comment I scrolled so much to find. Nice.

Edit. iPhone/Apple have been copying/stealing ideas from developers for years lol. Wireless syncing? Was made by Devs in the jailbreak community years (?) Before Apple stole the idea. There's like 100s more but can't remember and CBF.

    • +3

Pretty much every companies do, they either buy IP or take over small companies.

    • +3

samsung as usual doesn't create anything, but just copies all other companies. lol

Yeah, unlike Apple who would never copy Tile.

    • +1

Samsung released the first one before Apple, and Tile did it before that.

  • I have the Samsung Tag+. From experience it doesnt work in crowded areas e.g. Melbourne show showbag tent. Not well enough to use AR to find someone in a crowd

    • +1

Hard to get a signal through water/flesh.

  • I want to know if Samsung will allow these tags to work with all Android phones once Google releases their tracker solution.

    • +1

definitely will, assuming Google allows them :p

  • Will Amazon price match these in EDU store?

    • they don't officially price match anything. I highly doubt they will

  • photo looks a bit sus

  • These look huge

    • +1

      They aren't. Check YouTube review.

    • they're similar in size to an airtag with a keyring case. probably a bit smaller, even

  • How do they work if you have a base S23 without UWB?

    • Bluetooth?

  • Bought a 4 pack. Will come in useful for tracking our kid and luggage when we go overseas soon.

    • That's absolutely disgraceful. You really should be taking your kid with you when you all go overseas.

      • I'm pretty sure mozatihom is trying to avoid a Home Alone situation

        • +1

Yeah kid is autistic with delayed speech easier to track than hoping he speaks up if he gets lost

  • This or Tile?

    • Samsung has replaceable battery, I don't think the Tile has that anymore so you would have keep buying new Tiles regularly.

    • 'Por qué no los dos?

    • This. I've had Tile before and it was pretty useless since others gotta have Tile too to be of any use to helping you search for yours. Whereas with Sammy/Apple, majority of the people have them.

    • If you have a Samsung phone, this. There would be a much broader network of Samsung devices to make this more practical when tracking down items.

  • Would these work with a Galaxy S9? We've got an o/s trip in a few months where we really don't want the luggage to go astray.

  • I take these will only work on Samsung phones? I plan to upgrade to S24 next year so I might get 2 now.

    • Just wait, you might be able to get these in a bundle or something later just like it's free with the s23 FE.

Don't buy now if you don't need it right now.

      • Thanks for the tip! I will wait then as I don't need them now but will do in the future

        • If not the market will be flooded with these in no time. Watch out Facebook Marketplace

  • got 4, thanks for posting

  • Do you need case for this thing, or it's rugged enough to be used for luggage ?

    • +6

Wouldn't you place this inside your luggage…..

      • It doesnt affect its signal and hence reduce its discoverability?
From the promo pics I have seen, it seems they are tagged outside..

        • +1

Probably, but better than getting damaged/stolen perhaps?

        • +1

It doesnt affect its signal and hence reduce its discoverability?

Unless your luggage is metal it won't affect it much. The main tracking signal runs off Bluetooth at 2.4GHz which would have no problem passing through typical plastic luggage walls. The 7.98GHz UWB signal for localisation would be slightly affected, but would still work.

        • From the promo pics I have seen, it seems they are tagged outside.

Of course, for the marketing aesthetics! It'd work fine covered in plastic/cloth.

  • +1

I don't have edu account but just checked my company is partner with samsung and got the same discount. Bought 4. Thanks OP.

    • Was gonna ask about this. Let's see if it's the same with Samsung Government

  • Anyone used the existing smart tags with their dog and can advise how it went? Have a samsung s22 base model (no UWB) so looking at this new tag though looks like it may be a bit annoying on the dog's collar…

    • a bit annoying on the dog's collar…

It's not. Cases like this exist which should barely be noticeable to the dog

I've even used fabric tape with the tag on the outside of the collar. Worked a treat.
I would recommend noting if the collar sits a certain way (i.e. heavier. side down due to tags) and place it on that side so it's on the part of the collar that hangs off the puppers neck

As for how it went, I have a Tile. I find it slow to update but the one time I did test it (by marking the Tile as "lost"), it was very accurate

These are better than nothing but are practically useless in comparison to real gps trackers on pets Bluetooth is good for 10meters.

Gps based trackers can track anywhere in the world -live vua satellite to down to 3M radius…

        Apples and oranges.

        • +1

These are better than nothing but are practically useless in comparison to real gps trackers on pets Bluetooth is good for 10meters.

I don't think you understand how these trackers work. There's a video here showing it being used to track a car in Melbourne. I would suggest you take a look to see how they actually perform.

          • -1

@eug: Lol did you actually watch the video??

13 mins in .. "these are useless" for tacking stolen cars when other phones dont go past.. they also say only gps is reliable.

Imagine a pet that is stolen or runs into bushland..

Best not speak if you have NFI what you are talking about.

            • @CauseNEffect: Once again, as I said, it does not look like you know how they work.

Do note that you said Bluetooth is good for 10 meters.

The video I linked is meant to show you how they work. I was not suggesting that they should be used for tracking stolen cars. You can clearly see they are good for far more than 10 meters.

Imagine a pet that is stolen or runs into bushland..

It's amusing seeing you make up scenarios to suit your argument. If someone wanted to steal your pet, they would clearly see a GPS collar and simply remove it and stomp on it or toss it in a bin. Not only would you lose your pet, you would have lost your expensive tracker as well.

I'm not sure why you cannot accept that other people's pets may behave differently to yours, and that different people are allowed to have different requirements to you.

If you happen to live near bushland and your pet has a tendency to run into it, then a GPS tracker can make sense.

If the nearest bushland is 20km away and your cat escapes maybe once every three years, it might not make much sense to buy your cat what is effectively a mobile SIM with a monthly fee and recharge its "phone" every few days.

What suits you may not suit everyone else. What suits everyone else may not suit you.

              • -1

@eug: You are arguing something you have no clue about. I own and use these bluetooth/ smartphone based devices as well as a true GPS tracker.

My point is that they are not suitable for live tracking pets. If you owned a pet you would understand that that dont often sit still for long periods of time when they are out of the home. They move- quickly.. yes a stolen dog could have the gps tracker removed much the same as a smart tag… don't see how that invalidates a gps tracker in anyway.

Last known location is better than nothing for sure and gives an idea of where to start looking but is no way comparable to gps which doesnt have deadspot areas like phones and tells you exactly the spot within a 3M radius.

                • @CauseNEffect:

You are arguing something you have no clue about. I own and use these bluetooth/ smartphone based devices as well as a true GPS tracker.

You earlier said Bluetooth trackers are only good for 10 metres. You compared that to a GPS tracker that can track anywhere in the world.

If you only got 10 metres tracking range from your Bluetooth tracker, you either "have no clue" about how they work or are using them incorrectly.

That is why I linked the video that shows these trackers are not limited to just 10 metres.

yes a stolen dog could have the gps tracker removed much the same as a smart tag… don't see how that invalidates a gps tracker in anyway.

You were saying a Bluetooth tracker is useless if a pet got stolen. That is literally no different to a GPS tracker - it would be just as useless.

Last known location is better than nothing for sure and gives an idea of where to start looking but is no way comparable to gps which doesnt have deadspot areas like phones and tells you exactly the spot within a 3M radius.

At least you're changing your tone now. You were saying in your first post that Bluetooth trackers were practically useless for pets.

I still find it amusing that you are unwilling to accept that different people and pets can be different to you and your pets. What suits you may not suit everyone else. Not every cat needs its own mobile network plan - sometimes a Bluetooth tracker like this is sufficient. The update rate on these Samsung tags are faster than other trackers like AirTags too.

                  • -1

@eug: Where are you based id love to have this discussion in person.

These are not suitable for live tracking pets. Thats from real world use. They are indeed practically useless in a lost pet scenario but do provide a last known location which is better than nothing at all.

You'd rather argue than listen. I have no more time for you on here.

      • This is the old tag though. The new one has a very different shape and a giant hole.

        • It was just an example to demonstrate the style of case for a collar.

I also mentioned that I am using fabric tape if you read my post :p

  • Thanks OP perfect timing for some international travel for the family. Planning on putting these in our luggage and carry on so we can keep track of each other if needed.

    • Ohhhh so they do work for luggage? Ok that sounds useful..

  • How does the Samsung SmartTag compare with the Tile equivalent?

    • I cant remember the exact differences but the msot notable was Tile having the least amount of coverage. Theres a bunch of youtube vieds out there that compares the three
