$1,000 off Google Pixel 8 / Google Pixel 8 Pro with $69/M 120GB/M 24M Telstra plan (New/Port-in, In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

760

Saw this on JB pixel email. In-store only. Seems like a good deal if you're after a pixel as the $1k / $1.2k gc is reserved for the $99 plan, never on a $69 plan, and if you have JB gc's sitting around.

The free pixel 8 pro on a $69 HN Optus plan is still the better deal (expires 19 Oct) but hey, here's another option for you.

      • Not if I have to buy a pixel 8 at rrp

  • So $69pm for pixel 8 or pro? Why would anyone go the non pro in this case?

Other than really preferring the smaller size, but it's a much better value proposition to get the pro, right?

    • +1

this only gives $1000 off the phone price, not free

    • +3

The sheer size of it. Way too big for many people. The Pixel 5 to Pixel 8 size jump is decent enough without throwing the pro in the mix

  • -8

It’s not really a good deal 24 months on this plan is too much the older 12 month plans they had previously were better

    • Effective 27.33pm (assuming you want a Pixel) for 120GB pm on Telstra. Seems like a deal to me…

      • Plus a full price pixel at rrp

        • Yes. It’s a great deal if you want a pixel. If you don’t want a pixel then this deal probably isn’t for you

          • -1

@djsweet: $2k for a cheap phone and a plan is a lot of money. It’s only a good deal if you can’t wait, and want loads of data with Telstra right?

            • @onlinepred: The effective $27.33pm is assuming you were going to buy the Pixel anyway, at the current price. Of course if you aren't planning to do that, or you are going to wait for the Pixel price to go lower, then this deal may not be for you. But for anyone who was planning to buy the latest Pixel in the next few days or weeks, this is a good deal. Yes $1700 for a phone is a lot. This deal is only good value to those who were going to drop that on the phone regardless.

  • +2

Can we still get $10 or $20 monthly credit from Telstra?

    • They’ve closed that with the introduction of these new upfront plans sometime ago

  • so for the phone $1699 - $1000 = $699 and then cancel plan straight away and pay $69 or prorata for a month?

    $699 + $69?

    • You forgot to include the cancelation fee

      • -1

        How much is that?

  • +6

    So would this work?:
    Purchase pixel 8 for $199
    Cancel plan straight away $450
    First month $69

    Total pixel 8 price $718

    • +1

My calculations are that you have to pay $69 for the first month out of 24 months plan so -
      Pixel 8 - $199
      Cancellation fee $450x23/24=$431.25
      First month $69
      Total $699.25

      • If you cancel as soon as you leave JB you shouldn't need to pay the first $69.

        • I thought so and hope so but I think I read somewhere that you will be charged full one month fee in advance on sign up. Probably in [CIS]

          Information about pricing
          Your first month's charges
When you start your plan, you will be charged for the first month when you place your order.

          • +7

@zenzen: Ok so picked up the pixel 8 yesterday. $69 was charged to my credit card before I even got back to the car….
But the $431.25 cancellation fee is correct (I guess the first month is already paid etc).
And so yes $699.25 is the correct full amount for the 128gb model. I got the 256gb model though for $799.25

I prefer smaller form Android phones. Galaxy s23 has to much bloatware for me, and the zenfone 10 looks great except for the short update policy - I really hope they increase this oneday.

            • +2

@Wizballs: Thank you for your post. Glad it worked out as predicted.

            • +1

@Wizballs: Did you call up Telstra to cancel? Have you received final bill for $431.25?

              • +1

@ultrahaas: Yes I called and received the final bill via email, for $431.25

            • @Wizballs: Should I call telstra to cancel the plan or JB ?

              • +1

@ozbjoe: There is a number in your contact to call. Just remember to enter the new contract phone number when prompted, that will take you to the correct area.

  • So we can’t combine with trade in offer ? I thought you could combine these offers in the past ?

  • Question for my fellow bargain experts. I ported to optus from telstra at HN for the pixel pro. Can i now report back to Telstra at JB with this offer?

  • -8

pixel 8 same geekbench score as $200 iphone

  • Is this correct: say Pixel 8 pro 256GB: $1,799
Less $1,000 off with plan sign up
    Less $300 bonus trade in
Less say $400 of your device
    = $99 to pay?

    • +2

      trade in doesn't stack

  • +1

It looks like the max Voucher Repayment Fee is $431.25 if you cancel the plan.

    • Where are you getting $431.25? I see $450 in the critical information summary…

  • Google Pixel 8 Pro 128GB Device Offer (In store only):

Customers who sign up to a new Optus $69 SIM only plan in store at Harvey Norman, Domayne or Joyce Mayne during the offer period will also be eligible to purchase a Google Pixel 8 Pro 128GB device with a $1699 discount applied upfront to the cost of the device at point-of-sale.

Optus plus promo plan 69 dollar plan 500gb per month. Min plan cost $1656 including device & plan over 24 months.

Surely the HN deal is the best deal… Basically free phone, with a 69 dollar plan locked for 24 months @ 500gb per month…

  • +2

just do the optus plan, port over to the carrier you want straight away, it will automatically cancel the plan and give you an $828 cancellation fee which they will email you. then go onto boost, belong or aldi if you want telstra

    • +1

What about for those that want the smaller P8 - seems like this is the best option.. I wonder if you can cancel the JB plan 🤔

      • +1

I've been hanging out for something for the regular P8, I don't want a bigger phone. The JB trade in deal plus gift card (now expired) was the closest so far but I wouldn't have much use for the gift card

  • I somehow got the $350 preorder gift card + $300 trade-in gift card (they refunded me with the coupon) + $1000 gift card (again, refunded me as I already preordered). So I guess I can pay the $4xx cancellation fee and buy an iPhone 15 plus with all these gcs for my mom.

  • +1

Is this now the best deal with the HN one ending early? Was going to head to HN this weekend but missed out.

    • Wondering too, seems good for a non-pro model @ $718

  • +1

Missed HN deal by one day. Now looking for next best offer with JBHiFi.
Is there any difference for the monthly cost charge upon cancellation - immediately (Suppose you cannot get $0 charge on the same day cancellation?) vs a few weeks later within 1 month ($69)?

Interested to see what kind of loyalty offer available from JB Mobile sales upon cancellation request.

  • Same here , im currently with Telstra so im looking to port my number to optus or voda prepaid before signing for this deal.

Best i can find this is the best available at the moment

    • Buying deals just to resell is never going to go down well on here. Really better off just keeping that to yourself.

    • Cool story bro, thanks for sharing 👍

  • +3

At jb now and they're doing this and also 1300 off if you do the 99 dollar deal. Just a heads up

    • Paying $30 more a month is not worth the $300 more in gift card tho.

    • +1

If you are after pixel, you will find that $99 plan with 1300 off is worse off than the $69 with 1000 due to $800 cancellation fee as opposed to 450.

  • +3

Given the Optus/HN $69 deal is cooked.

This one for the Pixel 8 Pro 256GB would be this if you cancelled immediately:
    Phone = $1799 - $1000 = $799
Voucher Repayment = $450 / $431.25 (If they charge first month)

Total = $1299.25 ($69 for first month) / $1249 (no charge for first month)

Pay with gift cards for additional 5% off?

    • +2

hey mate you mind explaining that second line for me

"Voucher Repayment = $450 / $431.25 (If they charge first month)"

      Appreciated

      • +3

As per terms and conditions: https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

        Can I cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13
50 75 or visiting a JB Hi-Fi store. When you cancel, your
service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund
any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out
        any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received
when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee
(if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the
base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or
part months) remaining in your plan term.

        • much appreciated

    • Thanks mate. Do we have to call to cancel or can we use live chat?

  • A better deal (if you use less than 20GB/month):

    • Buy the Pixel directly
    • Switch to boost prepaid 260GB for $250/year (21GB/months) x 2

You save $1100 on 2 years of mobile plan and you get better coverage and speeds.

All Telstra MVNOs run on the Telstra wholesale network with the exception of Boost Mobile. While Telstra’s full network reaches 99.6% of the population the wholesale version covers 98.8%. It might not seem like a huge difference, but it means that Telstra MVNOs may not be an option for customers in rural areas.

  • was so close to signing up saturday just panicked!! lol that just me!

but well worth it if you trade your pixel as u can get up to 700 back on the trade in with the bonus and almost pay nothing just the cancellation fee! 425 or so!

  • I new to this switching game. How does it work if I cancel the same day…do I go back to my previous provider or do I need to get a new service? Also do I get to keep my old number?

    Sorry for the dumb question(s)

  • +1

I missed the deal from HN just 1 hour before it expires, but turned out this one is much better for me as I'm travelling overseas this weekend, and JB provides invoices with full amount for you to claim the GST (10%). I just got home with 2 Pixel (8 for my dad and 8 Pro for me).

For the Pixel 8 128Gb, I did as above and paid $699 (will be $590 after tax return)

For the Pixel 8 Pro 128gb, not only I did pay $0 upfront, but they actually gave me gift card of $100 :D

Traded in my Pixel 7 pro: $500 (same value I bought on FB)
    Voucher bonus: $300
    Gift card:$1000
    First month + cancellation fee: $69 + $431.25

    8 Pro 128Gb = 7 Pro + $400 = $900 (will be $746 after tax return)

    • Just curious, you managed to stack the $1000 credit with the $300 tradein coupon? If so then that would be amazing.

      • +1

Yeah I went there only for Pixel 8 at first. But when I asked the guy, he's so lovely and helped me with the trading. I was surprised too.

  • +3

Done today, was able to get a new number minted, no need to port a number over.

    Calculations are correct per previous posters;
    Pixel 8 128GB - $199 - paid to JB Hifi checkout
Cancellation fee $450x23/24=$431.25 (confirmed with agent when calling to cancel)
First month $69 - charged immediately
    Total $699.25

30mins to signup and buy phone at JB. 7 minutes on phone on 13 50 75 to cancel plan. Early termination fee to be billed within 10 days.

    • And as you got a new number minted, I assume that dies with the cancellation

      • Yes dies once you cancel. No receive SMS or calls once deactivated.

    • I did this deal with my number though. Could I port out and pay the early termination fee? Keep us posted with the final termination fee

  • +1

So happy I got the non-pro. Perfect size and this is a decent deal.

Very happy with the fingerprint and face unlock.

  • Does it end of trading tomorrow 19th? Or midnight tonight?

    • It mentioned it's the 25th of October.

      • yea true! and the bonus pixel trade also ends on the 25th, maybe I'm getting confused with the HN pixel bargain?

  • Am I correct in saying it has changed it to "Get a $600 JB Gift Card" for the $69? If so it's no longer worth it right? Anywhere else still doing it?

    • +1

No, this deal is still available. $1000 off pixel 8 or $600 jb gift card

  • Am I correct in saying if I have a $500 trade-in device, add bonus 300 for total of 800 credit towards p8pro that's 1699 (128gb), it would be cheaper than opting for this Telstra one if I don't want to keep the contract?
69 per month is too high plus doesn't have international calls whereas the current plan does.

If my numbers are correct, 899 with trade-in OR with cancellation and device cost, a bit over 1100 out of pocket

It's for a family member on s20fe. Had I known the pro size was ok, I would have gotten 2 from HN on launch day. Not just 1 for myself.

  • Has anyone elses order just been stuck on "In progress" with Telstra for the last two days? It went for manual review and has now been escalated to another team. No idea what's happening.

  • I've been getting mixed responses from different stores.

Didn't explicitly say I'm going to cancel but just asked contract terms and they said if the voucher is $1000 and you cancel after 12 months, you pay back the remaining balance of $500.

Whereas another store said you don't pay all of it and you just pay 762?

Anyone here in Brisbane or gold coast successfully get this deal for 450 cancellation and that's it? And it the entire thing

Last thing I want to be stuck with 1000 repayment back. This for a family member and not myself. I already took up the HN deal on the 7th.

I can see a few people appear to have had it but just want to make sure I've understood this correctly

  • +4

Ok so after doing it yesterday for the Pixel 8, you can actually stack with the trad-in coupon to get an additional $300 off. Which means:
    1199-300 = 899
    899-1000 = 101 back as gift card
    pay 69 upfront for telstra
pay cancellation fee 450 (prorata to be ~431)
    pay total ~500

So finally have Pixel 8, and a $101 JB gift card, for ~$500
Feel like this has to be the best deal for the non-pro, and even for the Pro it would come close to the HN deal (final price would be ~$900 I believe)

    • ok brilliant

I might pop in later today

when you cancelled did you just hit up telstra or just port out?

I got 500 phone to trade in + 300 bonus

So it would be the following if im not mistaken

      8pro 128 1699
      -1000
      -500 phone
      -300 bonus
      + 69
+ 450 (probably be pro rata but upperlimit)
      = 418 out of pocket

      • As I was an existing Telstra customer with direct debit setup, JB just added the service to my existing account, and the first payment of $69 hadn't even been debited yet when I asked to cancel. So in the end I just have to pay $450 cancellation fee, saving another ~$50. I cancelled via online chat on Telstra, but again that was because I already had an account.

        • Deal all sorted out. Managed to get the gift card offer plus trade-in

got debited $69 right then and there before I even walked out of the store

    • Sounds like you got lucky because the terms in the picture says not in conjunction with other offers?

      • +2

True, however since the $1000 discount comes in the form of a gift card (no mention of plan in receipt), theoretically you could even just do the plan part first, then refund and rebuy with the gift card + coupon in a second transaction.

        • Good point.

The guy that did my plan didn't mention this and I don't think I have any decent phone to trade in anyway (they get handed down to family members) :(

        • Do you not have to buy the pixel 8 there and then? Does it mention the gift card can only be used on pixel 8 range?

The normal deal is $600 gift card and this one is $1000 gift card for pixel 8 range is it not? If there is no difference then it will always be better to get the $1000.

          • @CodeXD: Yeah, its specifically saying towards 8 or 8pro

            • @zb c: Thanks, that great ad long as they don't force you to buy on the same day. Then you can prepare other gift cards or maybe even 2 of them to get pixel 8 pro 512gb which is $1999

              • +1

@CodeXD: I believe you do have to signup and purchase in the same transaction so that they do apply it towards the phone and not used for something else.
They just grabbed a blank card from their counter, loaded up 1k and the processed it in the transaction.

I came with my other gift cards when went to grab it.

          • @CodeXD: Its unusual you can use the gift card on the item you're buying. Usually you can only pay full price for the phone and then use the gift card on something else.

            • @pgdownload: That's usually a different deal, like the preorder bonus one they had.

This is basically an incentive so they can sign up to Telstra, and in doing so, they give a credit of sorts in the form of a gift card which this specific deal is for a pixel 8, otherwise generally the gift card value is much lower and you can use it for anything else.

    • Did you have to tell them you are using your bonus $300 credit to pay for the phone or you just scanned it when you pay for it? I tried couple stores around me and they won't let me use the bonus credit

      • I just did the signup and then just presented the voucher at the register. No issues

  • Not specifically related to this deal, but are we (those already on telstra) still able to buy a new plan and then "port in" via telstra chat?
About to head to JB now to take up the $52 deal but though I'd check first since it's been just over a year since my last deal haha
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans

  • How’s the bonus trade in work? I’ve got a pixel 6a and want to switch to a pixel 8 pro.

    Is the best I can do - $1699 - $1000 - $150 = $549?

    I’ll keep the plan.

    • Take another $300 off so it will $249 for you.

You get $150 JB eGift card then you will also receive an email where you select the offer you want. In this case, pixel 8 pro then you will another email with a barcode for the pixel 8 specifically.
Go in store, present the trade-in voucher for $300 then present the $150 gift card then pay off the remaining amount.

I did this today and they had to redo the transaction as you need to present the coupon before anything else gets processed. So make sure you show that before they start at the checkout.

Got a deal as I bought a new charger (old one is quite slow), screen and lens protector and a case. Took some money off the phone and the accessories. Since I had a trade-in and the bonus coupon, I paid literally nothing out of pocket and left with $50 still on the gift card.

In retrospect, I could have actually gone for the 256 model instead of 128 and only paid $50 out of pocket…

Didn't realise I would get a decent amount trimmed off the total package.

I already got a 256 pro from HN deal. I got this for a family member so pretty decent deal if I'm honest. Worked out to be cheaper but it was because I did a $500 device trade-in

      • Can we still get the $300 trade in voucher? It's not coming up on the trade in website anymore.

        • +1

It will be in an email with subject line: JB HiFi trade in coupon specials. This will be 1 of 2 emails sent when you submit the trade in. Second email is the gift card for trade in value.

In the coupon email, you will see a few offers. Select the pixel 8 one and it will then send a second email with the barcode.

          • @zb c: Is there an expiry on the $300 and trade in vouchers?

            • @juliank: Oct 25th for the coupon, when the deal itself ends.

Trade in gift card itself doesn't expire

  • Can I trade in a smartwatch and also receive the bonus $300 voucher?

    • yeah, anything that's on the trade-in website

      • Legend. Thanks
