[PC, Steam] Battlefield 2042 $14.39 @ Steam

411

All time low price by the way.

Intro copied from an earlier post

Hi all,

Battlefield 2042 on Steam is at the lowest price I've seen for it at $29.68 (67% off). 14.39 (84%).

EA have been patching it since launch and its decent now :)

EA seems to be competing with the current pre-release of COD MWIII, and to get some players over their way.

Also, 2042 is currently free to play for another 3 days or so. I'm gonna grab it anyway.

This has been as cheap as $9 in the past and I'm not sure it's even worth that these days. given it's abysmal launch and current Steam reviews.

    • +3

It's not good for a couple weeks but gets boring real quick, lack of weapons and maps just really isn't a BF game

    • +5

it's better than it was at release but in no way does it touch battlefield 5. the maps are not great, vehicles are op, and it's just not really that fun after awhile.

  • -5

Pretty sure it's free with Game Pass

    • +17

      Gamepass isn't free

      • +10

It costs folks like you and me

        • More than a buck O five.

      • +1

he didnt say it was free

  • +12

    $14.40 too much

    • +3

they should pay you 1c to play it? :D

  • +1

Got ps5 version for $5. LoL still in shrink wrap. Gamepass pc FTW!!

  • +2

Had a game last night. Quality

  • +3

Not to buy this game is a deal in itself :).

  • +5

I purchased this when it was $9 on Amazon many many months ago. Contrary to popular belief the game is in a surprisingly good state, as most Battlefield games it's Beta and Launch was abysmal but it's picked up over time with constant updates and patches

The Australian player size is small at times, but you can still find full lobbies at night. It's new (and potentially final) season just launched, it's also currently free to play for the next few days

But it isn't everyone's cup of tea, so your mileage may vary

    • +2

The problem is that its just flat out worse than the games that came before it, each time I give it another shot it just makes me wish I was playing an older better battlefield.

It really does feel like a Battlefield game designed by people that don't really like Battlefield and want it to be some other game.

      • Exactly how I feel! I played it last night and left to play cod after the second rush match.

  • does it have single player?

    • +1

There are only multiplayer/conquest game modes, so you can play solo with AI bots. IIRC there is no offline mode, so you always have to be online (connected to their servers) to play.

According to Reddit, you can unlock all weapons by playing solo like this:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield2042/comments/11m5uw4/ca…

How fun the bots are is up for debate, I've seen people say they are really dumb and boring to play against, others say it is fun. As a singleplayer only gamer, I've been debating whether to pick this game up…

      • +3

Definitely don't get this for the single player, the bots are absolutely awful and it feels really unrewarding.

      • Can you suggest me a good single player fps game

    • No single player i think last time i play was like few months ago

  • +2

    That's a long pre-order :)

  • Ah beat me to it, was just asking people if this game is worth it here
    in summary,
    - Have they resolved the major bugs?
    - Have they changed any game mechanics?
    - Have they added in any features?
    - Is there still an active player base in aus?
    - Is it worth the $15?

    • +2

I dodged it at launch but played Season 3 and had an absolute blast with it (played about 40hrs over a few weeks). I didn't encounter any bugs and the game modes, unlocks, etc were all well balanced and lots of fun.

I can only imagine it's better now that it's up to Season 6, but I'm not sure what the population is like.

    • Biggest issue is lack of server browser and ability to join friends.
Most ofnthe times, you end up in a lonby taking minutes to start a game.

      • +2

Those both options are available for a long while now.

        • Wow .might have to try now.

  • +1

Been a long time since I played, do I have to go thru a launcher from steam then EA then battlefield ?

    • i want to know this

    • +1

      Yes you do,

The latest season was stuck syncing and you had to reload the EA launcher

  • +1

Might buy it just for Portal, relive my BC2 days

    • Problem with portal is you start to feel like you're playing the old game but things will be missing and you think "I should just go play the old game"

      • +3

Wish there were still decent BC2 servers in Australia :( being shut off in a few months too

  • Off topic.
What is the most popular BF title in oz at the moment?
I still play a bit of BFV but there is pretty much only 1 server and it's only populated at night.
    I heard BF1 and 4 (?) are still alive.
    Thanks

    • +1

      3, 4 and 1

  • +1

The game came up for me as a free 3 days trial, perhaps worth testing it before making a serious $14.39 commitment for life.

  • Battlebit is better 300 fps
    Bf2042 50-70fps

  • just use Steamdb to show the lowest price?
    https://steamdb.info/app/1517290/

  • Season 6 is fun

  • OP, lowest price has been $5, last year on amazon au.

    • lowest price for Steam and EA digital platforms, not including those discounted hard copies :)

  • +2

Better yet, BF1 is a far better game and is $9.99

    • +2

Very true, but unfortunately the AU servers are dead

      • That's unfortunate. I was playing a lot maybe 18 months ago and there was a good 2-3 servers at max players during prime time pretty much every day.

  • +2

Even if it was free, its seriously not worth your time. 100s of better games to play.

  • +1

MW3 beta is a better deal than this

  • Trash game. Wouldn't recommend even for free

  • I'm spinferno in bf2042, add me and let's squad up! I'm a falck medic main

  • +1

I was the lucky one to play battlefield titles from the very first one, although there was some controversy on some titles, in the end they started to peak at 3 and hit the summit at 1 then dropped the flow with V.

BF2042 was flawed on release and I've been following teabag on YouTube and find his reviews accurate and he even says the recent update has fixed a lot of issues and the intro of the new map (hurt locker type) was a good thing.

  • +1

Hmm $ 14.39 is a loss that I can survive surely if the game doesn't match my expectations. Thanks op, pulled the trigger. Time to try it out.

  • This or battlebit for 23?

    • +1

Battlebit for something different, plays great, but you gotta remember it is an indie title that keeps getting incremental improvements. If you don’t like it, return and get this, bf2042 is in a great spot now, plays awesomely on the ps5. Going to give the pc version a go tonight thanks to this deal, hopefully performs better on my ryzen 3600 and rtx2070 than it did during the beta…

  • I don't see it discounted, not sure why.

    • The sale finished last night I believe.
