Pros

  • Competitive performance
  • Attractive design
  • Class-leading endurance
  • Software suite

Cons
1-year warranty without registration
Slow write speed after write cache fills

There's a Rocket Plus version also which is obviously better but significantly more expensive. $561 for the 4TB, $210 for 2TB.

You got them mixed up, this is the other qlc one

    Cons
    1-year warranty without registration

So what are they going to do if I ask them to replace it in case it fails after 1.5 years? Override the customer laws?

  • +3

The price is not as great as for QLC drive.

    • For a QLC drive thats only 3500MB/s write.

      • +1

Unless you want to write a bit more at once, the speed may drop below the current HDD speed.

I waited a few times for hours to copy data to QLC drive.

        • How much were you copying!?

          • @XCelR8: Around 2-3TB, a similar experience with copying 1TB to QVO 1TB, it was faster to read from HDD than to write to QVO drive.

  • It's tempting. But I can get some high end Samsung 990 drives that are faster for around the $200 for 2tb mark. I'm not sure which to go for.

    • +2

Neither. 990 Pro 1TB was $59 before (yeah I know it was meant to be an Amazon UK deal only, but Amazon UK let AU customers purchased). This Sabrent Rocket Q4 is QLC, so you should only consider it when it is $110 (and even at that price, you still need to think twice, because QLC write speed can get really ugly).

The only exception is you can fully expense the SSD, then get the 990 Pro.

    • +1

      Samsung 990.

  • +4

Please note that this is a QLC NVMe SSD. While it has DRAM, it is still QLC.

Furthermore, the NASCompare review was done back way back. PS5 has stopped the dumb zero fill read test, you won't get the same figure with that SSD in PS5 now.

  • +2

There's a Rocket Plus version also which is obviously better but significantly more expensive.

However, the Rocket Plus is TLC and its performance is also significantly better than this QLC (non plus) version.

  • Is this any good for PS 5 storage upgrade?
    Pardon my ignorance
