  • Has anyone truly found a better option than Bingle when it comes to value comprehensive car insurance? Consistently the lowest cost.. I've had a claim with them, where I was at fault, and the process for repair was straightforward, no concerns.

Budget Direct has always been far-and-away cheapest for me (SE QLD), claim process was fine and opted for a cash settlement and it was seamless.

Old colleague had his insurance policy cancelled by Budget Direct after one small, 3k ish at fault accident.

The cancellation itself isn't a problem, until one buys another insurance and hit that question 'has your insurance been cancelled…'

Basically, he was stuffed by BD.

        • Do you know why it was cancelled??

          • @seanmilt: The question should be 'would I want myself barred from getting insurance for a $100 - $300 saving'?

IMO cancellation is reasonable for fraud / criminal activity, anything else should not result in cancellation.

          • @seanmilt:

Do you know why it was cancelled

            was at fault

From this year no more car insurance for me, prices went up by 30-40% while we deal with the insurances tricks then we pay stamp duties (a theft) every year we renew PLUS tax on stamp duties and compulsory insurance in the vehicle registration plus TAX!

@billadm: Just make sure you keep 3rd party car insurance.
It's cheap, and nobody wants to deal with dragging you (or anyone) through the court system if you write off their pride and joy.

I'm sure you too, don't want to be forking over $100k if you simply bump a classic with irreplacable panels, or some such.

until one buys another insurance and hit that question

This is how I ended up with Shannons.
When they asked, I said "yes, after 25 years of zero claims" and they said, "No problem, we'll reinstate your rating 1 for life, no drama".

        • but when you purchase insurance online, if you choose "yes" for 'has your insurance been cancelled…'.

          the process will be terminated

          • @baron33: At least it's only 1 of 4 ways you can buy insurance; you can still go in person, phone up, or mail in.

    • Virgin Car Insurance for me has always been cheaper.

I tried to quote and found this “budget” insurance is so much more expensive even after the discount applied.

Same car of mine, model Y, I was quoted $3900+. While Allianz and AAMI are much much cheaper!

Allianz even offers a better service on “choice of repairer” and windows free excess.

Guys, please check around before you gets hooked by this sort of “price jack”.

    • +1

That's right you should always shop around.

To their defense (to a degree) it might not necessarily be a deliberate price jack. It could simply be certain criteria in their quoting systems that you happen to be triggering. For me Allianz is always expensive but I accept it as a premium option. AAMI and RACV are both cheaper than Bingle which doesn't really make much sense. WWS is the really odd one consistently giving me $2500+ quote while I know a lot of people are getting it cheap. So yes always get multiple quotes to pick the right one for yourself.

  • $800 fixed excess? jeez.

OP, how are you at covering heavily modified, and Individually Constructed Vehicles?

    • -1

      $800 fixed excess

My car insurance increased by 35% even so its market value decreased they also increased the excess to $700 without saying anything.
No more car insurance for me and if all people unite and do the same thing, the insurance crooks will have to do something!

      • You must live in a fantastically skilled area.
YOUR choice is your own. But "all people" ?!
I don't see many drivers that I'd personally judge as 'good enough' to want them not to have insurance.

Most don't even understand how to leave trucks their stopping distance, let alone more skilled responses to incidents.

  • +1

Comes with mandatory “my insurance won’t cover me” thread for the forums

  • -1

    OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    burn it down

  • What about current customers, can they get the discount too ?

    • Call and ask?

  • LOL!!!!! I know RAC has my car valued for $15,000!

    VALUE
What is your car insured for:
    $3910.00
You will pay an additional premium if you add the Car Value Boost option.

  • Someone is paying for the BD advertising and it's us if we are silly enough to insure with them. Bingle are ok but shop around hard if you have had a claim. Like other monopolies, insurers are increasing premiums viciously in the quest for loyalty tax suckers.
