Nice find. I reckon the 5Ah is the best allrounder battery. Still light enough to wield on the hand tools. And still powerful enough for mowing etc. Thay battery alone is RRP $350.

    Trouble is… Do I really need a 4th 5Ah battery, 3rd powerhead, and 4th super charger?

    • Can never have too many batteries.
Powerhead probably not unless you're a contractor and/or want a seperate head for each attachment.
      Charger? Definitely not.

      • I'm thinking I could just sell the stack of 2.5Ah brand new in box batteries I have to justify buying this lol lol.

      • Can never have too many batteries.

yes you can - I have something like 18 ryobi ones and some are beggining to die as I tend to leave at least a few in their tools!

Nice find. I reckon the 5Ah is the best allrounder battery.

Need the 7.5Ah to do my lawn…

5Ah is plenty to do all the trimming and then the blower….

Need one more battery to have as a spare though…

Do they ever do deals on just the batteries?

      • I'm talking about the instantaneous power of the 5Ah is enough to mow with. The 2.5 isn't, but the 5 is good for almost any lawnmower load.

      • I'm the same, 7.5 minimum for lawns.
My 5.0ah died very soon after I tried using it for lawns, replaced under warranty but since then I'm going 7.5 and 10.0 for lawns, 5.0 for everything else, and the 2.5 is really no longer used much at all.

    • I have 6 haha.
3 untouched stashed away for when the first 3 inevitably die

      • 2/3 mine are dying, and because I cycled through them I'm out of warranty. Should have just used 1 by 1, with that usage I would have found out for both before the warranty ended. Much regrets

      • The 3 untouched batteries warranty is still counting down. Hopefully they are fine when you do eventually decide to use them.

        • Yeah I'm aware of that, I just got lots through redemption promos. They advertise the battery as 10 year shelf life, so ACL would still apply if they are dead when I use them at year 5 for example, regardless of warranty.

What is the shelf life of a typical Lithium-ion battery? Due to their high capacity, all EGO batteries can be stored unattended for a minimum of 10 years without damaging capacity and cycle performance.

          • @cook99: Cool. coz i got a kit recently, and the battery was dead out of the box. So just returned it.

  • I picked up one of these powerheads off the verge the other day, but no battery to test if it works. And batteries are bloody dear. Not sure what to do with it now. Already have a Stihl KMA135R Kombi but this would be handy as a backup.

    • +5

The trouble is the batteries and the powerhead attachments almost never go on sale.

Probably why it was on the verge. Or the person using it just put it down while they went to change batt/head, then came back and…

Or the person using it just put it down while they went to change batt/head, then came back and…

        🤣🤣🤣

There's probably some home security footage of nubzy floating around Facebook forums…

      • Hahah , nah, definitely wasn’t being used. It was in a large pile of stuff.

  • +23

wow great deal i need a new power head i put it down on the verge the other day to go grab an attachment and charge the battery. Came back and it's gone. looked everywhere and just cant find it

    • Check with @nubzy

  • The edger seems to go one sale but I have been waiting for HTA2000 pole hedge trimmer for the power head for a long time now and it never seems to budge.

    • +1

I've never seen the pole hedge or pole chainsaw heads go on sale ever. They are nice pieces of kit. I ended up buying the powerhead kit with both included for $750 a couple of years ago.

  • Same price at Total Tools for the skin.

  • So this comes with the multi-tool, but you would need to purchase the heads you want, it doesn't come with any?

    • +2

Correct. Powerhead, battery and charger only.
If you want the line trimmer kit, it's $579
Trimmer attachment is $199 so it's slightly cheaper getting the kit.

      • I've been paying someone to manage our lawns, but think it's time to stop being lazy and spending so much money on it, so looking at electric mowers and line/edgers. Any recommendations on the mowers? Roughly 500sqm grass.

        • Battery mowers are convenient but most don't cut very low. If you don't cut it lower than 25mm, Ego or Makita 40V would be my choice but you'd probably have to spend $1200-1500 to get a 21" mower and enough battery power to cover 500sqm. That said, that's the only outlay, practically nothing for fuel or servicing.
If you want it lower than that, you'll have to look at Victa or Masport which go quite low. The smaller Ego's bottom out at 20mm but with 500sqm, I'd say you'd want a 21" mower.

          • @whitelie: I'm pretty settled on EGO I think based on previous research and it's what the current person doing it for me uses. Would you recommend the EGO LM2135E-SP or an alternative EGO model?

Sorry for all of the questions and thank you for your advice!

            • +1

@dead5pur: The 2135 is a good mower, the XP model is coming out now though which has more grunt.
Trade Tools have it listed but can't find it at Sydney or Total Tools yet. That said, I think there are good deals on the 2135 due to the XP replacement such as this kit with a free blower as well as the dollar based redemption offers.

              • +1

@whitelie: Thanks again! I'm not in a major rush, so maybe I'll wait and see if any further reductions as the new model comes out, or if any specials on the new model.

            • @dead5pur: if you don't need the self-propelled model this one is going cheap https://toolswarehouse.com.au/products/ego-lm2101e-56v-5-0ah…
i picked it up the other week and did a large backyard very easily. some people say the weight is a reason to go the self-propelled but i've got a bit of lawn that's on a fairly steep slope and honestly it wasn't much of a problem.

              • +1

@merriweather: I hardly use the SP (I do have a flat lawn) on my 2135 but the Select Cut blade system gives a much nicer cut/finish over the single blade mowers. Don't know if it's worth double the price

              • +1

@merriweather: Self Propel is like a remote, you don't need it, but once you have you'll bitch about other mowers that don't offer it.
These poly deck mowers weigh comparably nothing to a steel deck petrol unit. I have the 19" LM1903E-SP, and although it gets used rarely because I use a commercial ride on for 99% of our acreage, I do enjoy the self propel, even on the level areas. I would never not get a self propel again.

                • @snuke: See this guy self propels.

The only people who say "don't go for SP on one of these", are the ones who didn't.

                • @snuke: haha yeah i don't doubt it. i almost went the SP in the hope that it'd encourage some of the other people in my family to do some mowing too but the deal on the other version was too good to resist

  • The 18v Makita I got last time from OB is tragically weak.

    • I wouldn't use Makita 18V line trimmers or mowers. Their hedge trimmers are the only 18v outdoor gear I'd probably recommend.
40V stuff is excellent but a completely different price point.

    • 18v or the 2x18(36v) ?? was it the DLM464??

  • Has anyone had a good experience getting the no brand batteries from AliExpress?

  • +1

Or Powerhead 5ah kit with line trimmer attachment(sydneytools.com.au) for $579 down from $749

Total has it for $499: https://www.totaltools.com.au/186605-ego-power-56v-brushless…

    • Good spot. Interesting Sydney don't have it at the same price already but they'll match it for sure

  • The $579 power head with line trimmer kit was $499 like a week ago at Sydney tools.

  • +1

I can't recommend the Power head trimmer enough.
I could never go back to winding a spool ever again, it's just such a good feature, and the trimmer works great too, love it.

I ended up getting the 7-piece set which Sydney tools has for $1,369. Total tools have it for $1249 but no stock near me, Sydney tools price beat it to $1240.

    • Thanks for the info. Got myself one from Sydney Tools price matched to $1249.

    • Could you please provide a snapshot of the invoice? They can't do the price match for me as there is no stock at Total Tools. Thanks.

  • Picked up the kit just now form Total Tools. Battery is 06/2022 date.
