I am still playing Starfield and Mario Wonder. The Person 5 Tactics game is out in like, 3 weeks. I do not need to get this now. It will go on the backlog, and by the time I get to it, it will have been much cheaper.

    Still pretty tempted.

    • +2

yeah, but have you seen those reviews tho 👀

      'tis the season… 👻

      • +2

i still need to play the 1st one…

      • +2

Yeah, but I JUST 'but the reviews' last weekend and bought Wonder haha

    • How are you finding Starfield?
I was seeing so many articles and hype pre-release.

Don't know anyone (irl) who's actually playing it though

      • +1

I am enjoying it, but the two main criticicms I've seen are things I am personally immune to. People seem to compare it Skyrim and other Bethesda games as something of a rehash of the old formula, but in space. But, I never played those games, so this is of concern to me - it still feels new to me.

I'm also less interested in exploring every planet and this big universe - so the complaint of planets being mosty barren, samey and with little interesting to do doesn't concern me either - even if that part of the game was super rich and rewarding, I'd still probably end up skipping it.

It's hardly some 'must play' masterpiece, but if you are after a well made timesuck, it's not the worst choice. I'd definately sub to GamePass for a month or two to play it instead of paying full price though - once I finish the game, I probably won't play it again.

      • +2

I've just hit NG+, at about level 70. I didn't do any of the XP farming, but I did grow tired of the exploration after a while.
I would describe Starfield as "Fine". I loved the Fallout series, both before and after Bethesda but I kind of bounced off Skyrim for whatever reason.

Starfield is a fairly dated formula and the story isn't incredible. It's also not a very good RPG (imo) since it really railroads you in many situations and the companions are (for the most part) all "Lawful Good" type characters who really frown on you doing anything untoward.
If you gel with this though, there's a lot of content to get through.

I did enjoy several sections of the game though, including: The nod to Aliens, the weird "Clone" outpost, and a couple of the story missions.

As Andrew87 said, it's not a "must play" masterpiece, but it's a solid 6/10 experience. I'd also echo their opinion of just play it on GamePass. Don't buy it at current prices.

      • +2

My issue with Starfield is that the procedurally generated content is boring as hell, but it's difficult to identify where the "real" content is versus the generated content outside the three major cities. It makes playing the game feel like a chore because you need to drudge through the crap to get to the good content.

        • Exactly. Same problem since Skyrim. Needs an option to turn the procedural shite off. Big time. Makes it unplayable imho.

    • I am also still playing Starfield, Mario Wonder, AC Mirage and Forza Motorsport.
But still have time for Alan Wake 2… Looks amazing!

  • Anyone find any deals for Xbox?

  • +2

    Bought this.

Loved the first game, I'll deal with EGS for $63, very cheap launch price.

  • Anything for Playstation?

    • +9

Yeah but apparently it actually runs fine on decent hardware and not as bad as people thought?

The internet overreacted and created drama before any tests or benchmarks were released? Colour me surprised

        • +1

It wasn't unnecessary drama, it was concernment from demanding system requirements

        • this is why no one cares about dumb reddit aka r/pcmr opinions

      • Ah fair enough, I didn't read much past the article blasting the system reqs a few days ago. Good to see then 😆

  • Do people keep forgetting pre-order debacles?

    Wait for reviews!

    • +5

      Reviews are already out. 92 - https://www.metacritic.com/game/alan-wake-ii/critic-reviews/…

Although Forza got reviewed alright and that was half finished…

      • -1

Hopefully performance is good. Reviewers PCs tend to be mighty powerful.

        • +2

From what I've seen if you're happy to run without RT it does pretty good. Apart from that the game at low settings actually look really good already.

    • I didn’t actually buy it, just thought it was a good price to share. I’ll get it when it’s $30 in a couple month.

      • I can wait a few months but definitely buying this.

  • +8

    Annoyingly no pre-load on Epic.

    • +2

      "Annoyingly on Epic."

      Fixed that for you

  • +1

Thx OP! Got the prepurchase refunded and get this one instead. Bugger that it is EPIC exclusive on PC and no preload but it'll be soon anyway.

    • Its gonna take me like 2 hours to download though (fuking FTTC connection). I work at night so I will be going to bed by the time download finishes, I was so excited in the morning, what a bummer :(.

      • I got FTTB but it's only 100/20 so there's that as well.

  • Thanks OP! Bought!

  • +1

Lol at the discount code - Oct 17 was the old release date.

  • what time does this release in australia today friends

    • +3

      • thank you :)

And this is why digital only on console is bad!! They hold the monopoly on pricing selling digital on their platform. No one to compete with. Can charge what they want. Digital PC market is very different to console. You even get try before you buy on PC but nope, not console! Sony are very anti-consumer when it comes to digital. People on console have a right to complain about not getting physical release. Alan Wake 2 on PS is $90.95, you would be able to get it for probably $69-$79 if it were physical.

    • You can buy keys…

      • Where do you buy keys for PS5 games? You're talking about some dodgy account with the game on it. I can also jailbreak my PS5 but I'm not going to. You're missing the point.

        • I didn't read all of your comment. You can for Xbox, but not PlayStation I guess, I've never owned a PlayStation so I assumed it was the same.

    • Now that the new digital PS5 can have a disc drive clipped onto it, the XSS and Switch Lite are the only digital only consoles. And PC if you count it as a console. And mobile too, now that it is getting console games.

  • +2

Thanks for that! Ended up refunding my Epic store pre-order too but used the discount code on GMG to buy the Deluxe version instead; for an extra $13 over standard edition price to get the expansions included seems like a pretty good deal to me.

    • $13? Isn't it more like $25 difference after the discount?

      • Vs original $75 price was what I meant haha.

        • Fair enough, bad comparison to make though since you need to compare both discounted versions which still makes it $25 more than standard edition.

          • @cnut: Yea I know but FWIW I easily could've missed this post and had just paid the full $75 anyway especially with the game launching in less than 2 hours haha.

            • +1

@basketballfreak6: I wish there was a preload option!

              • +1

@cnut: For sure man…I was hoping to have pre-loaded before I left for work this morning haha.

  • +1

Why does it look like he is Rasputin playing John Wick ?

  • How long is the game? Is the game world interconnected like Control or story driven like god of war?

    • More story-driven. It’s around 20 hours to get through the story. You play as two protagonists, Alan Wake and Saga (an FBI agent) and switch between the two as the story progresses (you don’t get to choose when you switch as far as I’m aware/according to reviews).

      • Actually You do. When you progress through the story after a point you can freely change between both characters, you can also just play Alan wake's part continuously until where his story meet Saga or other way around.

    • It has ties to Control + Quantum Break and Max Payne, the Remedy universe is all connected…

Also they announced NG+ is coming post launch with a "new nightmare difficulty and new alternative narrative, including new Manuscript pages and new video content."

This is a PC version so why buy this game when no PC is powerful enough to play it at the moment?

    • No PC is powerful enough to play this game max setting without upscaling? Yes You are right.

No PC is powerful enough to play this game ? No, You can easily play this game 60fps@1080p with upscaling as long as you have 6600xt or 3060 and above.

    • +1

      https://www.techpowerup.com/review/alan-wake-2-performance-b…

Despite what seemed like crazy system requirements even the 3080 10GB can play the game maxed out at 1440P native as long as you don't use raytracing.

I am sure there will be future patches and driver updates to further improve performance.

    • Idk but my RTX4080 seems quite capable of handling it at Maximum settings/Full Path Tracing with Frame Generation on. Besides compared to PS5 and XSX this is literally the cheapest version at launch so why not?

  • Any Xbox cheap argentina/turkey codes?

  • +1

I think it will be under $40 Jan/Feb. but for new game, great price whoever wants to buy and play it now.

    • +3

I'll give it till March but yeah, Remedy's games don't hold values for long. Still it is freaking Alan Wake and it has been 13 years since the first game came out which I absolutely fell in love with so (profanity) it, I bit haha

      • Same loved and replayed the original numerous times was actually caught surprised that 2 was coming out so yea it was a pre-order for me lol.

  • +1

Where the heck do you enter the code?

EDIT: I was trying to buy it through the Epic Games store. D'oh! I will politely bow out of buying from GMG due to their history of stealing customers' games collections.

  • Wasn't there already a sequel?

  • +1

Ah I got this with the 4090, while I love Alan wake in more happy to sell the game for like $45 bucks or so,

Yet to have the code as the GPU is in the box

    • If I had a terribly high end GPU I'd be using it the second it arrived!

      • -1

Ah, playing games is like watching a movie, you play it make a subjective opinion and move onto the next game, in that regards I'd get a console.

Infact I wanna play Alan wake 2 on console given there's marginally any difference compared to pc, but for the GPU I need it for machine learning, deepfakes, animation training kinamtics, podcast vocal filtering, vr, Nvidia Omniverse rendering live engine, and use Facebook lama model AI data to pump out AI generated content to YouTube and have the GPU run in colab, so you can see playing it only for Alan wake 2 makes me want to scream.

The first thing I'll use it for is to see if I can hack my neighbor's WiFi as a joke, curious.

        So yeah now you know.

        • -1

I like your interesting uses. Although this GPU for podcast vocal filtering seems like overkill!

    • -1

Interested in the code if its still available?

    • A bit late, but is your code still available for sale Mewmew?

      • +1

If I can fit the dam GPU in the case the size of this GPU, given I can't… Rage, need a new case, try back in a few days, deals expires on the 14th, but codes valid til December 24.

        • Thanks! Will check back soon.

        • Hey mate! did u manage to get a new case!

          • @grubgrub: Not yet, seems Amazon delivery driver decided to leave my case outside the dwelling when me and my partner wasn't home calling us with a authorisation code.

Total shit show, I have 6 days to build this pc.

Was hoping to guy my current pc shove GPU in and get redemption code, and sell it but way things are going talking with Amazon.

            • @LoserScott: Ha yea when things go wrong, things go wrong.
You can just send me a message directly when you have it ready

            • @LoserScott: Hey mate! how did the build go?

  • +1

    John wick is that you?

  • +1

Code no longer working for me? Seems expired.

    • +1

Think the code expired when it ticked over to November. I’ve updated the deal as expired now.
