[Backbone+] Backbone One Gen 2 for iPhone 15 & Android $131.78 Delivered @ Backbone

90

Since I received a few DMs about this today, anybody that took a punt on the BigW couple weeks back and feeling a bit blindsided, don’t have an android to update firmware to open up IPhone compatibility, or simply sick of pulling the case and and off, use your free Backbone+ 1st year subscription to purchase the newly released Gen 2 directly from Backbone and return the Gen 1 back to Big W or wherever you purchased it from.

The reviews seem promising with better triggers, magnetic (rather than double sided tape) padding, and importantly built to hold the iPhone 15 with a case and not sitting at an angle.

It’s a bit more money but you are getting $47.22 off a brand new release which is very handy imo. Best to go through the Backbone app. Delivery is free from the US

    $179 AUD

    • Discount for Backbone+ member, maybe this is member price.

  • Sadly unable to sign up for the free trial without already owning a previous backbone, the app won’t let you progress to initiate the trial without having one connected.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago from JB for $125.

I originally owned a GameSir X2 Pro which I was using with my Pixel 7 but when my work phone was upgraded from the iPhone 14 to the 15, despite being USB-C the GameSir X2 Pro doesn't work with it. After looking up a couple videos I saw that the Backbone One (USB-C) worked with the iPhone 15 so picked one up.

I've been pretty happy with it. The app integration is quite nice and it's just plug and play without having to worry about configurations (just preference for sensitivity, etc).

My only grips with it are the joysticks are quite small, like Playstation Vita sized and the L2/R2 (LT/RT) triggers have very little resistance, they're analog which is great for driving games but they're very easy to fully press and there's very little throw/action on them. Other than that, I think it was a great purchase.

If you've got a GameSir X2 Pro and are using Android then I'd say there's no point upgrading. If you're like me and have both Android and an iPhone 15 variant then I'd go with the Backbone One. If you just want the cheapest option and you already own a PS4/5 or Xbox One/S/X controller then get a phone mount/clip.

    • If you want to sell me your garage gamesir cheap that would be cool!

      • I gifted it to a friend sorry.

  • Where are you sourcing the info on the Gen 2? Backbone doesn’t appear to officially specify any changes.

it was all over reddit and such. I have literally just accepted delivery of it. The box says Gen 2. Website info is kind of sketchy but the description mentions iphone 15 a couple times. i ended up getting the non-PS version so the keys correlate with game controls..especially important on Madden.

Edit: Opened the box and it comes with extra adapters in the box. Fits like a glove with my case on. I think the USB-C connection is better as well. the phone also doesnt sit on an angle which is great.

  • would prefer an old ps4 controller with a controller phone mount

    • Genuinely curious to your experience if you can share them.
Can find some cheap PS4 controllers and might get a phone mount. I want to play retro games mostly.
      Kind regards

      • ps4 controller is more ergonomic, the mount lets you use different sized phones and can set your screen angle to your preference.

        • I've used a ps4 controller mount with my phone and in my opinion, there's too much weight above the controller for them to be comfortable for long play sessions. I currently use a gamesir x2 pro and find it to be much more comfortable but still less comfortable than holding a ps5/xbsx controller on its own - mainly because the dpad/stick are vertically aligned and there is not much to grip with your hand

          • @DeToxin: for those long play sessions id just remove the phone from the mount and prop it up somewhere comfortable.

nothing gets more uncomfortable than using a tiny thumbstick for hours.

    • Definitely recommend this if you have a ps4. Even better if you have a ps5 as i much prefer the ps5 controllers.

Easy bluetooth connection to your iPhone/android and you’re set!

    • na not for me…that setup is good for games on the ipad at home, but when you on the go, this is compact and you can pull out the PS Remote play within seconds

  • When the ps5 controller with the built in screen coming?

  • How do I get this? I’ve been waiting months for a deal on this and keep missing out so I don’t want to miss out this time

Do you have a backbone plus sub already? If you have the app there’s a coupon code. I’ll see if my new one came with another code.

Edit: na coupon code is tired to the account, not device. Check with people who purchased in the recent Big W & JB deals. They would’ve all qualified for the discount

  • If someone who already owns one and is willing to give up their code for me I would be so grateful :) please PM me

    • Would also love a code! Trying to source v2 to use with my iPhone 15 :) TIA
