  • Anyone have any experience with the 32 inch (G51C) monitor listed? I've been looking for a decent mid tier monitor. I know it's VA panel and Samsung, which a lot of people don't really like. Prefer Dell monitors myself, but I missed out on those deals a few months ago.

    I feel its still expensive

    • True, but still the cheapest deal on the 990 PRO. It's not a budget SSD.

Fast SSDs are pretty pointless for 99% of people. Save your money and buy something with more room, 1TB can be as little as 2 games these days

Have you head about Microsoft's DirectStorage? Fast SSDs are required. In the upcoming future, gamers will need to upgrade their SATA SSDs.

      • That also likely means your factoring in a complete replacement of your main NVMe drive, as the board market isn't the best in supporting more than one.

A new build or a rebuild, or a migration of your OS to the new drive to support it.

I wouldn't be getting too excited in paying overs for a future feature that is still in it infancy.

        • Games are launching with DirectStorage technology today, it's not a future feature.
If you're currently in the market for a good SSD, this is a good option. I just built my PC 6 months ago with a 980 Pro at higher price. If I were building my PC today, this is what I would choose.

      • Do YOU actually know about direct storage? It's been out for 2 years now and only a handful of games support it and in the supported games there's minimal difference (or none like ratchet and clank) between gen 3 and 4 speeds. Games can barely utilise gen 3 speeds for DS.

Samsung is no longer the only player in the market for good quality ssds, plenty of others in the space that offer full gen 4 speeds with dram cache and lower prices without the firmware disasters that'd ruin actual pros' works.

For any other tasks, faster ssd's are useless. Never buy into 'future proofing' trash.

      • Maybe in 10 years, but not 5 and not now. DirectStorage is useful on consoles with limited processing power, almost every PC is way over specced on CPU and has no need for DirectStorage with very specific exceptions.

name a few games that require 500g storage pls

      • +2

Yeah they're wrong about that, there's stuff all games above 300gb.

But Ark with SOTF, all maps, etc can push that.

Warzone with high res textures will push 250gb.

I've got MSFS with all the content and a few aircraft at 400gb, but the skies the limit with mods + big imagery cache's. Like 2TB, if you want to download the world.

DCS with all modules and maps can push 300-400gb too.

Not uncommon though to find in the 100gb range though. Thats a few more installs at least.

    SSD: Samsung.

2tb high quality gen 4 ssd that also has a dram cache which is cheaper and won't come with any future surprises of wiping your storage. 0 reason to buy samsung's nvme ssd's these days. Buy a 10 dollar heatsink with it and it'll still be cheaper.

    • I bought Crucial P5 Plus (2TB) PCI e 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD and Orico case.

Nonetheless, files transfer speed is 25mbps on Windows 11.
      Am I doing something wrong?

I've raised a query with Crucial, but thought to check with experts here.

      • What speed is the usb port you connected the orico case to? It sounds like you're using a usb 2.0 port.

  • be careful buying directly from samsung, they can and will ignore you if things go wrong which means no warranty no way to return and you will be left with broken item and loss of money

ACCC can do nothing, had to go to court to get money back
