    14700kf good price too

    • Yep, $619 with the coupon code.

I think they have deals on all the new 14th Gen Intel CPU's.

  • +1

Plus the cost of a new PSU to run it lol.

    • +4

I'm still rocking a 6700k from 2015 with associated components so I need new everything.

New PSU, MB and CPU Cooling Fan, it all adds up :(

      • -2

I'm sticking with my 7700K till it dies, the higher clock speed of 4 cores is better than having a zillion lower clocked cores that most games don't use, especially since I mostly play older stuff, games actually run faster lol.

        • I was hoping to do the same but I started playing some new fps games and bought a new GPU and in some CPU intensive games my old CPU is a big bottleneck and causes game stutters.

        • +1

If it's older stuff 7th Gen is plenty, I had a 8400 six core Intel ran everything perfectly until modern games like BF2042 would run like a dog, had to upgrade to a 13500 but the game not optimised

        • +4

Clock speed doesn't matter as much as you think. The 6 p scores are still 40% faster than the cores on your 7700k and there's more of them. Higher amount of cache is also significant for games.

E-cores are there for productivity tasks not gaming.

Of course there's no point in upgrading if you're not upgrading gpu as well.

        • +4

          WTF are you talking about?

The 14600K will smoke your 7700K and it's not even close. Firstly it has 6p cores all of which are much faster, not to mention the massive upgrade in IPC and cache. I mean sure stick with the 7700k but don't delude yourself and possibly others to think it's actually faster in anything.

      • +1

Also rocking the 6700k but want to upgrade soon… Likely will get this 14600kf once figure out rest of components

        • I ended up going via BPC Tech and we worked out a deal to combine CPU+MB+RAM and it worked out much cheaper than buying the items separately via Centrecom even with the Black Friday deals they have currently.

I contacted Centrecom and asked if they would do a bundle and I got told everything is at the best price they can do and they weren't willing to do any bundles.

I'd strongly recommend BPC Tech, they even flashed the motherboard to the latest BIOS to support 14th Gen Intel CPU's before I collected the items.

          • +1

@Dejy: Good to know! I still haven't bought anything so I might hit them up, I've never used bpc.

Thanks for the post, I was thinking of buying one from centre today as they deal ends at 5pm

No one is buying these intel chips.. :) .. they are just not very energy efficient

    • +3

What's a better alternative for a new build?

      • Depends on your budget. I would prefer a Ryzen 5 7600 to this chip.

      • get a 7600 or 7600x (if x is more than 20 dollars more, not worth it) if you want to save some money.

if you want pure gaming performance, get a 7800x3d.

If you really want intel, wait for a sale of 136KF, 146KF is only worth it if the price difference is minimal, since the upgrade is minimum.

Or 12400 can serve most people fine, although in that case i would probably grab a 7600

    • +3

I don't think many people consider power draw for desktop chips, generally? Especially for how most people use them, the extra cost of power is negligible.

      • +6

This is true but an extra 100 watts of heat in the case can make a big difference.

        • +3

My 8700k running at around 60-70c heats up the room so I am not upgrading to these current cpus running at 90c+ until they lower the tdp.

      • +1

They should power draw means heat which leads to less performance or more cooling required.
And with the price of electricity today a 7800X3D will give similar performance for way less power, up to 40% less power

    • +5

why are you under the impression people are running their desktop chips at 100% usage 24/7?

      what is this stupid misconception

      • +1

Yeah it's highly dependent on settings and use case. 7000 series systems tend to use 10-30W more power idling so if your PC spends most of it's time idling then Intel can actually end up more efficient.

        • +1

Its a negligible difference between the two for daily users, if you are a editor or some sort of other power user then maybe could make a difference but at that stage the extra cores could also be worth it, i'm sure those users can research themselves anyway

its annoying to see people fall for dumb clickbait review titles on youtube and make that their whole understanding of a product.

    • +3

There is more to story than that. The CPUs are simply a refresh of the previous generation and not worth the upgrade based on all the negative reviews out there.

It's not worth purchasing as a new platform, because there isn't an upgrade path to the next generation like you have with AMD AM5 from 7000 series to 8000 series. Also AMD X3D CPU still provide better overall gaming performance and are more power efficient on average.

      • -1

Yep… Intel is cheaper at the lower end so they have a place but if your going for anything else AM5 will give you the best gaming today with a few CPU upgrades over the next few years

  • +2

thats not really a sale price

    • +2

Yea the 13600KF is very similar, only 200MHz slower in the P cores.

Where is it selling for $413.10? I'll add it to my list for a potential upgrade path.

    • the code in the OP is not 10% off if that's what you are assuming, it's $10 off

  • would like a deal on what would be i5 14500 …want the onboard gpu as it’s for office use not gaming.

    • +1

rest of the 14th gen lineup is scheduled for early 2024 release. i would just get a 13500 now (or on black friday) as the difference will be minimal

  • +2

Look for deals on 13th gen instead, 14th gen is only 1-2% faster at most, intel just replaced the 13 with 14 and forgot to make any other changes.

    • Or go pre-owned. You can get a 13900k for around mid $600 these days, or 13700k in the mid $400, once combined with some eBay code.

  • +1

    Code doesn't work anymore.
