Nice find; I have the Fellowes 6C and this one is twice the specs for only a little bit more.

Picked up the x406 for $60. Seems like a decent price

If this is for large amouhts of items for shredding then thats ok.

If you want my ozbargainer way of dealing with destroying small amounts of paperwork (like when i get a small amount of documents I want to throw away safely), place them in a bucket of water and wait….

Then scrunch them up into a ball.

Why: have you even accidentally washed a piece of paper left in your pocket and then try to open it to see what the document was¿. Impossible, right.

Myself I go one step further and use it in my worm farm.
Zero Power, 100% recylce, 100% safe.

      Fire also works.

      • +1

true, but not as environmentally friendly i find as water amd recycled

      • Are you even allowed to burn trash with fire? I thought u could get into trouble with the local council?

        • Burning rubbish is different to burning a few pieces of paper.

You might even be using the paper to light a BBQ or fireplace.

Yeah, I don't bother with any of that. Straight in the compost bin.

      • Fair point.
Yes. If im not putting im compost, i still soak.

Is this good enough for espresso?

    • +1

      Probably not.
It's probably better for cold brew as the shred size is not very fine.

Anyone own one of these? The officeworks review is one star with scathing comments

    • I've had an X410 for years, no complaints.
It's only on household shred duty which isn't too much these days as we try for paperless.
      The output is good compost.

    • I bought one about a year ago for light office duties. Probably shredded 20 pieces of paper a week. It stopped working after 6 months and found out Rexel's Australian customer service is basically non-existent.

Wonder why the RRP of x410 cost double or more than the x406? Are they just size difference?

Edit: just notice the X406 only has a 2 mins run time while the x410 is 6 mins, will get the x410 then

  • I have of the larger ones with the slide out bin and paper stack feeder (not the 410 model) and really like it.

  • Any affordable shredder that can do cardboard?

    • Why would you shred cardboard?

      • Why not?

        • How often do you have confidential information printed on cardboard?

It also means you cannot easily recycle the cardboard (same for shredded paper)

      • So it takes up less space in my recycling bin

        • You may as well put it in your landfill bin as it won't get recycled.

Shredded paper is too small to move through the sorting facility machines and ends up as waste after falling through the filter screens.

If you really want to shred and recycle it then you'll need to buy paper bags and add some into the paper bag and scrunch it up, or put the shredded material into a cardboard box and seal it.

Or you can compost it in your green bin if you have one

  • No credit card and and CD cutter as one of the older models I bought from aldi
    However this is good price

  • Does anyone use shredder oil, and can recommend some? Is there a difference between using the sheets you put in vs using an actual oil?

  • Thank you OP.
That's the wife's Xmas pressie sorted!

The price went back to 'normal' 5 minutes after I ordered it.

    $298.95 !
